- As part of "Theaster Gates: Young Lords and Their Traces," the New Museum commissioned musician Shedrick Mitchell to play the iconic organ that is the focal point of the Gate's work, "A Heavenly Chord" (2020), throughout the exhibition.
Shedrick Mitchell is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, where he received formal piano training playing gospel, classical, and jazz music. He has worked on several projects as lead composer, arranger, and producer with such artists as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder. Mitchell finds his greatest reward in teaching and mentoring up-and-coming musicians. He has received four Grammy Awards and recorded over 200 records encompassing styles as diverse as classical, new age, rock, jazz, country, gospel, R&B/soul, and reggae.

I can’t believe this has about 600 views. Many people need to see/hear this, imo. Me. Mitchell is a master of his craft. He plays with so much heart. This was such a treat to hear. Thank you for posting this.
I dont know how I found this, but God knows I'm grateful I did. The good thing is, I wasn't there when he recorded this. I would've been somewhere whooping and hollering and praising God!!
Why this isn't at the top of everone's feed is beyond me. Truly wonderful music.
