Good job on zeroing in to the fault on this HK tuner. Since cap 61B is in the same can as 61A, it should be replaced too because it's at the end of it's life. I have two of these tuners waiting for the bench
Your tight shots for soldering are clear and just the right amount of detail for me to follow. Thanks for sharing the whole process. It makes me more confident to work on mine.
Always a good idea to replace all the capacitors in a can. If one has already died, who knows what condition its twin is in. On a different note - go for the Pioneer recorder. I love tape machines.
Always enjoy your adventures. As commented on earlier, I also would have replaced ALL the power supply caps: C61 AB & C62 ABC (with 56MFD), along with the C63, and C64. Let's see that Pioneer reel to reel.
thanks, great video, yes dim bulbs can throw you a curve. Indispensable for start up dead short issues and a visual for idle current. Left in line for operation though they can give false indications. On some amps you won't get the speaker protect relay to engage, and get distortion until you let it off the leash. I'm in the habit of always leaving a current/wattage indicator in line as a metric during repairs especially when setting bias on amps. A change in current draw before/after component replacement confirms the fact of leaky components or low gain performance.
Hi Aidan👍 Nice work diagnosing to get this old tuner up and running. As many have said, replacement of the capacitors need be done but if the owner doesn't want to spend the money there's not much you can do. Maybe you can talk him into a restoration, as this is a fairly old unit but it looks good and works mostly. Great video thanks. Magnapan's, reel to reel and a tube console...cool. Your choice!
What I learned today is that I'm glad you know what you're doing! Nice work and explanations as you progressed. Magnepan Speakers is what I'd like to see next but you flip a coin. It's your choice!
Sometimes, just getting a device up and running, is enough, for further evaluation. Replacing every cap, resistor, transistor and diode etc etc ... Might not be worth it..every single time, every device. Time is money. IMHO. Thanx again, good job.
I have acquired two Marantz 2270’s both of which the lights come on but the relay never clicks. Do you have a video recommendation on how to trouble shoot this problem Thank you sir!!! Using all your tips and tricks for years

Good job finding the fault. IMHO the other caps will fail soon. While you are there replace them all.

Definitely the reel to reel, good job on tuner.

Nice troubleshooting!

Excellent as usual.
All the wax paper caps need replacing as well....some are in plastic bodies, but are still paper. An alignment will really wake that receiver up!
I'd like to see the reel-reel. :)
Terrible how close you put together the leads of the new capacitor. That is a thing of luck if they dont touch, unnecessary risk.
Nice stuff
Interesting what took place with a 90W Bulb. (Never knew someone MFG a 90W Bulb)
I didn't know they made tuners back in the 60's. great video
When capacitors are leaky they read high capacitance on the LCR bridge. It should be a big red flag for you.
Good Morning AH
WOULD IT BE SAFE TO USE A BULB THAT MATCHES THE WATTAGE ON THE BACK PANEL/bADGE?
Obviously
Repack the can, ie empty the can and put the modern caps in it so it looks origional.
👍👍😎✌️🤟
Mine is 110 VOLT
10/10 for this one Ive! Funny finding the old valve on the cowling!
Show us the R2R please!
Tube shields whatever you call these??? Really?

Hmmmm, reel to reel please!
