Wonderful video explaining the combination of genes in snakes and possible outcomes. Beautiful hatchlings. I liked the Freeways and the dramatic change in the look by adding Leopard.

Hi Kary Anne. Enchi is another gene with a powerful influence on the freeway (Mardi Gras). Since Enchi is allelic with Cinnamon or Black Pastel, here's another avenue that could be explored to produce something very spectacular in Freeway form. I'd like to make Freeway Clowns in all these various permutations.

Hi Veronica. With this particular allelic combination, the power is all in the supers!

    This is where it started!!!
Mr Dna made me from keeper to breeder, I was intrested in the morph mixology and understanding the ways to determine outcomes.. but I could never get my head round other peoples interpretation of how to do it.. until I was introduced to you.
Freeway/highway/yb/asphalt and gravel.. we're and probably are the most complex genes I've come across in my journey.
I remember when I bought 2 possible pastel yb/gravel (only for the pastel at the time) and I came to you in the comments, and was like "ok I've got this.. what do I do?"
We discussed proving them out, we discussed the possibilities privately, and now you have made the ultimate complimentary video to go along with your teachings.
Behind the scenes we've discussed this and it's given me a clear path of what I need to be doing, but its me that decided my path from these chats and videos.
Mr Dna needs to be preformed every now and again, it doesn't matter how seasoned you are.. its a good refresher or learning tool for anyone.
I'll take a look at the eye candy short one next.. but this is the important one for me!

Hi mate. Its important to follow your own path whilst still absorbing as much information as possible. I have seen your journey and progress in your comments and private messages. Great to see!

Hi Samantha. Hopefully you'll see the logic at the end of making an asphalt with the rest of the genes I need (just like making hets) in order to pair to either the Silky Way or to make a Super Asphalt powerhouse. In this case, if you want to avoid the obvious confusion of Asphalt/Yellowbelly, its essential.
Freeway/Super Asphalt can also be tricky when you also have leopard and/or asphalt in them as well. Controlling the pairings is the only sure way to engineer the outcome.

@@RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls Here, many breeders have so many snakes that are YB or asphalt. I don't like not knowing for sure.

@@sammythai99 the "quickest" way to success is to play the odds, role the dice, hopefully get something you can positively ID and then sell everything else as YB/Asphalt. Breeders keep doing this because people keep buying them and paying to roll the dice themselves. Don't!

Welcome back Mr DNA, love it!!!
Amazing clutch Rob and awesome video. Those Leo Freeways are stunning and the straight freeway is also a lovely example.
Love the explanations and great to see clear plans from a breeder to make sure that they know what they have produced. It’s so annoying to see so many asphalt/YB or other similar combinations on morphmarket. I understand why people do it as it’s potentially a short cut to producing a freeway but only 1/4 will be and 1/2 you won’t know what you have.
I’m working a similar Highway project (which you’ll see shortly on videos). What I’m really keen on making in that project is S Gravel/Highway Pieds and I now have a female almost up to size who is a gravel pied. It’s very tempting to put her to my JKR Firefly GeneX YB Pied but what I’m actually going to do is use that male to hopefully produce several YB Pied females and in the meantime put the Gravel Pied female to the Pied Ultramel thereby producing a Gravel Pied male to put back to his mum and thus produce S. Gravel Pied down the line. I’ll then use that to put to the the YB Pied females to create half highway Pieds and know that anything that isn’t highway pied is gravel pied. It may be that I at some stage do create an Ivory Pied in order to create all highways when paired to the S.Gravel but the key thing is to know what you have. Oh and of course the fact that having paired the original gravel pied to the Pied Ultramel there will be that lurking in the background. Long term I think a S. Gravel/highway Pied Ultramel would be amazing but that’s at least 3 years away even if I paired sibling gravel Pieds and even then only with 1/16 chance but interesting project all the same.
Keep up the amazing work mate and thanks for everything.

    • @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls

Hi Ed, if you are working Highway pied, you'll have to tackle this from the gravel / super gravel side, since an ivory pied or an ivory het pied is going to be an all white snake, you won't know what you have.
So Super Gravel pied can go to all your yellowbelly pied and guarantee an outcome. Het pied on either side of the pairing will give visual pieds and het pieds but you'll still be able to identify what you have.
Some complex genetic issues with some of todays multigene recessive/allelic projects but sounds like you have that all under control. Great project. Good luck!

@@RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls thanks Rob. Yes all my Pieds that I’m using are visual (no hets) so guaranteed visual pied even if shooting for an ivory and mainly tackling from the super gravel side anyway. My gravel pied was quite an investment but worth it to save a lot of headaches down the road with dealing with Ivory pos visual/pos hets when as you say, you can’t tell what you have.

    • @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls

Yes it's easy to ID a white snake as an Ivory. It's what else is hidden in there that you won't be able to see.

I can only hope people digest this rob. If a dumb ass like me can learn this and understand it without any mentorship (like i didn’t have a the start). Then it should be easy for other breeders with your superb videos on genetics with a little help from Mr DNA. I have a unfair advantage going in because i understand everything you are saying before hand. But i would be interested to see how many people in the comments are getting there head around this because of your incredible explanation.
You might remember my attempt to simplify everything with a simple Phase 1(heterozygous) and phase 2 (homozygous) analogy. This seems to be lost on most people🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls
      @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls  ปีที่แล้ว +1

People learn if they want to. And only if they want to. Creating curiosity is perhaps a better way to look at this. And making things as easy as possible to absorb.
Of course I missed out the other genes involved but thats an easy fix once someone gets curious enough to want to know how they fit in.
The main focis here was on the main problem we have with this allelic combo - distinguishing yellowbelly from asphalt - and controlling outcomes with the pairings we choose.

Do you believe leopard has a super? I see some people say yes and some say no

    • @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls
      @RobertBarracloughRoyalBalls  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Believe suggests some element of doubt? There is no doubt. ARP has made several.
Every gene has the potential to exist in homozygous form. It has to since the DNA strand is a double helix. Sexual reproduction would not work like it does if this was not the case. Science requires the double helix/allele/2 copies possible.
Some genes (the recessives) require the homozygous form to see the visual expression.
Most genes (the incomplete dominant ones) have a visual expression in heterozygous form, but the full phenotype development requires the super form.
Some genes (the dominant ones) have the full phenotype development in the heterozygous form. The homozygous form does not change the visual appearance of the snake so you would not know unless you breed it. Pinstripe is one example. The super form looks just like the heterozygous form. Leopard actually does look a bit different in super form, but not much. Again you wouldn't really know unless you bred it.
Some dominant genes have lethal super forms and hence the myth that they don't exist. They die in the egg and we never get to see them. They are only a 1:4 shot at best so this often goes unnoticed. Super Spider, Super Champagne are examples of this. The super form can exist, it is a possible combination, but usually dies..
ARP produced a super spider that lived for several months before it died. I can send you pictures if you would like to see what a super spider would look like if they were viable.
