    Sorry, but funko pops are trash. Nendoroids beat funko pops in every aspect other than price, but the quality makes the price justified.

      more customizability makes them 100x better than a funko. most of them are 40-60usd which is 4-6x more expensive but they come with a ton more. also funkos are so ugly and have no detail and their quality control isn't as strict it's a lot more common to find a funko with paint defects than it is to find a nendoroid with one

    I don't think funko pops and nendoroids should be compared really, Funko pops are 10$ basic plainer figures with black eyes ( Not Bad for 10$ of your fav character) while nendoroids are detailed 50-70$ Posable figures with lots of details. I never understand why people in the nendoroid hobby like despise them so much lmao I collect funko pops and nendoroids

      Funko pops are ugly that's why I don't like them (as a nendo collector). They are also not that cute looking and the designs of funko pops are very vague in the character they are trying to re-create in the funko style.

    • @shemage5932
      @shemage5932 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "I never understand why the nendoroid community despises funkos so much" because most people who collect nendoroids have enough money to support having dozens of them in your collection, so money doesn't matter to them, hence why they don't see the point if paying 10$ for mediocrity when you can spend 5-6-7 times as much for pristine quality.
      Me personally, I have over 40 nendo's in my collection and 1 funko pop (Moira from OW). While I don't spend more than I should on nendoroids, I can easily say that even my absolute worst, least favorite nendoroid looks and feels better than 80-90% of funko pops.

  • @hoshinokirbyenjoyer

    most funko pops are kind of terrifying except if they’re of animal characters. i’d rather just save up for a $30-$60 nendoroid than waste $10-$15 on something that may or may not kill me in my sleep

    As a person that collects both, here's my opinion:
    Funko pops have a nice desing to look at, nice box desing so you can collect them inside it, cheap and have a great variety of characters.
    Nendoroids look a bit smaller than funko pops, have more customization capability and look cute, realistic and "elegant" at the same time. You can have them interacting with each other and making the most iconic poses. But they are MUCH more expensive.
    Nendoroids mostly work with fictional characters, while you can have your favorite celebrities turned into a pop.
    But in quality terms, nendoroid are much better. They have an awesome quality and paint job, and also look more realistic (compared to the character) than pops.
    POP's look cheaper but still nice, and cost way less than nendoroids.
    With the amount of money you need to buy a single nendoroid, you can buy plenty of funkos.
    So the question is, quantity or quality? It's really up to you.
    In my case, I collect both, personally prefer nendoroids, but I can't always afford them. And pops are nice desk companions and shelf decorations as well.
    Thanks for reading!

      @iBrandad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Really well said. I collect both as well and I feel you on the not having enough cash for nendoroids all the time. Sometimes I just wanna scratch that itch to go buy a figure and funko pops are great for that.

  • @morrisginzburg1978
    @morrisginzburg1978 3 ปีที่แล้ว +72

    Gotta say nendroids all the way. I dont have any from either since in Argentina you can barely find funkopops and when you do they are really expensive. Still, when you see a funko pop, its clear they are just making items to sell. There's little to no attention to their personalities or details. Nendroids feel like the sculptures actually reasearch who the character is.

    • @randomprotag9329

      @@iBrandad fr that's those are the videos that made me wanna get them in the first place not to mention the quality. Is the articulation on fake nendroids too different from the real ones? Someone near me on Facebook market is selling a few Zelda nendroids

    • @iBrandad
      @iBrandad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nendoroid bootlegs look pretty similar to the original more often than not but there are some indicators that give it away. Google the original Nendoroids and compare those to the ones they are selling on the marketplace. Make sure the stickers on the box are the same and the paint job is quality and looks the same as the original. The skin will probably be very shiny if it's a fake and might not have the Good Smile logo on the box. You're more likely to get a fake from Ebay or Amazon if the nendoroid you want is dirt cheap on there and the seller doesn't have great reviews.
      Edit: The articulation is a lot worse on the bootlegs compared to real ones. (forgot to mention this lmao)

    I don’t care for Pops but seeing the boxes even a bit scuffed for any figure I see makes me feel bad for the buyer.

    I buy my figures to display and enjoy them, I couldn't imagine purchasing based on the possibility of how much I get if I ever sell it. I don't buy them to sell them and that is probably the biggest problem with collectibles in general and why prices are stupid. It's a mould they pour some liquid in and can be produced in limitless quantities.

    Summarizing. the FPs are to make money like crazy (it doesn't mean that the NDRDs don't) but by covering everything you see what matters most to them.
    On the other hand, the NDRDs are made with more care and detail, as IBrandad already mentioned. And they are worth their price at all.

    The only objective comment I will make about this so-called debate between Funkos and Nendoroids is: Funkos are not in any way worth more than their price tag. It's people who raise these things to a "high-end collectible" category because of scalping, and sometimes a really limited production of a specific character. Other than that they should not be expensive or considered anything more than a cheap plastic figure with some basic detail and portrayal of a popular character/person with black eyes.

  • @heyfell4301
    @heyfell4301 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have an interesting motive to collect *SOME* funkos, and that motive is: I don't actually need to buy them. There's a store next to me that offers one free Funko for every 10 purchases that are either above 13€ or Funkos themselves, so I can keep purchasing regular action figures (and, I believe, even Nendoroids themselves) and only get a Funko when I complete my 10 purchases. Also, considering how there are mini-keychain Funkos that cost less than 7€, I can technically farm points on my card by buying some of those cheap minis whenever I gain some extra money to spare, and since the bonus from filling the card is whatever Funko I want, I can technically get one of those very expensive giant figures by doing this. What's even better is that it seems the price of more expensive purchases is taken into account, considering how I bought a beautiful Rem figure for 26€ and got 2 marks on my card instead of just one.
    Funkos are a poor gamer's best friends, especially when I can get them by buying actual good figures (I don't know if they actually sell Nendoroids though, there were some figures that really resembled them, but I can't remember if they are actually nendos).

    1.) I agree, Nendoroids are better than Pops, especially with quality and posability
    2.) I agree, Pops and Nendoroids are both cute and I used to collect Pops, but truly, since I'm a doll and toy collector, collecting both Pops and Nendoroids are just too expensive and since I like Nendoroids more, I collect them instead (in case you don't know about doll collecting, dolls are only cheaper than Pops when they are in used and poor conditions, which means most are more expensive: the cheapest are around $30 and the more expensive ones can get up to $2,000 for one doll, so yeah, no room to collect dolls, Nendoroids, Pops, and other toys, so one of my collecting items had to leave the list and it wasn't going to be dolls or Nendoroids)
    3.) I hate it when people hate on Funko Pop eyes, honestly, that's what I love SO much about them. They remind me of stuff from my childhood. My childhood was fucked up, so I've always had a bit of a darker mind. I had heard a few times that "Eyes are the window to the soul," so eyes became my favorite facial features, but then I heard references of how people could have black souls, which meant bad people who were evil and cruel. I don't believe in this sort of thing anymore, but it made me reflect on how I viewed my own soul. I was undergoing depression at the time, so I felt empty, like if someone were to look into my eyes, they would find no soul, just darkness. I started drawing images of sad, angry, or scary people who had all their details, looked completely natural, etc. except their faces---always having black eyes. When Funko Pops emerged for the first time, I was a teenager and those darker years were behind me, but seeing them brought me a nastalgia, reminding me of the images I made as a child and the emotions that accompanied them. That's why I like Pops. I never found them cute and adorable, unlike most people who collect them. I liked them for the reason that so many people hate them: they look soulless and almost scary. I can create the emotion I want them to have in my imagination or I can let them remain in the darkness they were created for.

    Boxes and packaging need to be pristine for all types of collectors, Nendoroids, Pops, action figures, dolls, etc. Collectors are very picky. I'm not an in-box collector, so I wouldn't know for myself, but this is what I've seen and noticed with others who are.

    Honestly while I do think nendoroids are better in every way than funko pops, I'm more creeped out by the idea of nendoroids staring at me than funko pops. Like I like how they look and they're very beautiful to look at, but I feel so utterly guilty just undressing in my own room because I *feel* the character staring at me. I have to live with the guilt knowing hypnosis mic ramuda has made eye contact with me after I took off my shirt. I will never feel that with a funko.

    Funko really found the Formula to a good chibi Godzilla figure and now there’s 20 of them and obviously there’s the bigger ones that cost more and it’s just like man 🧍‍♂️ I want them but at what cost?
    Yeah, even if Nendoroid is $40 I’d take it just for the option of changing the pose up every once in a while (I haven’t done that)

  • @galactus4mac
    @galactus4mac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t understand why people compare these figures. They are completely in different classes. The price alone separates them. You get what you pay for period

    • @nihili4196
      @nihili4196 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, both are considered entry level collectable figures in their respective fandoms.
      Nendoroids are more pricy, but when you take into consideration how pricy different anime figures can cost, they are very affordable.
      Still not sure why even have that debate.
      Without looking at price, nendos win in a landslide, and even while looking at price they're still at advantage.
      Funko weren't meant to be great figures, they were meant to be collectible impuls buy. And they're good at being that.
      Both of them have completely opposite ideologies behind them, so even if there is a good reason in theory to compare them, they're not good comparison.

    • @nihili4196
      @nihili4196 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, their quality is usually worth a price, you have to be really unlucky to get misprint part, and if you do, goodsmile will send you replacement.
      I would say that some nendos are slightly overpriced, but that depends on figure by figure case.

      This might be a bit biased since I already enjoy pops, but I feel that they are getting better as time progresses. Seeing pops like Iron Man with the fire coming out is always kinda cool. I also really like the Godzilla vs Kong set. Quite detailed compared to other pops, especially the older one. Nendoroids do look far better in my opinion though. I pre-ordered Lucifer from Helltaker yesterday, so I am excited to see how she compares to the pops in terms of quality.

    Funko pop is shit and people only collect them because they are "trendy". I understand the ones who buy one or two of their favorite character and putting them on display. But those who buy a ton and keep them in box are just plain stupid. If you want something cute there is Nendoroid. If you want realism there are plenty of 1:6scale or statue. There are also plenty of Japanese company who make anime figures if you are into those.
    Honestly I think a lot of people bought Funko because it is trendy and it is cheap. And given that not all of them can hold their value you most likely just going to sell them dirt cheap or throw them in the trash once you are tired of them.
