I went to Ham house yesterday. The grounds are beautiful, all wild country flowers and a breath of fresh air away from the busy London borough in which I live. The house I'd very impressive and it didn't occur to me that it may be the home to a resident ghost / ghosts... Until I went to the basement. I went alone, leaving my husband upstairs with my daughter. There were a few people around in the kitchen area so I decided to look at the beer cellar first as there was no-one in there. The moment I stepped inside, I felt a very heavy hostile atmosphere and I felt an immediate feeling of terror. I turned and left as quickly as possible but could feel eyes on me as I left. I couldn't get out of there quickly enough! I still shiver thinking about it. I have looked online and have since seen the ghostly links to the house. No specific mention of the beer cellar though. Well worth a visit to this beautiful and historic house.
I don't remember the beer cellar. You should've ask the guides if they knew anything about the cellar. Sometimes we have to make our peace with our surroundings and then we'll feel OK. Did that in a place I moved into and had no problems after that. Another time, a new area I went to, found out apparently there are lots of folklore there, fairies, spirits, etc. Once I learnt that I no longer felt errie. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Wow! Wonder what you were picking up on. I'm sure some had some sad experiences in that house. Like the man the threw himself out of the window because the girl he liked didn't want to marry him. I felt a pleasant feel to the house. Thanks for commenting. 🙂
When I lived not far away, in Twickenham, Ham House garden was a favourite place to go for a walk. It's a very peaceful place, provided there aren't hordes of tourists in high season. I never SAW anything but there's a definite atmosphere. It's as if it's not just quiet but superquiet, a phenomenon associated with haunted places. It's not spooky or frightening at all, at least not for me. I've been in the garden all alone, and it was just very nice and peaceful. There are many stories of course about the Countess who is rumoured to have bumped off one of her husbands. Visitors have apparently smelt tobacco smoke when there is nobody smoking, which is of course forbidden in the house. The countess' clicking heels have been heard, and visitors have seen a small spaniel running about which is not there. The countess owned a spaniel and it appears in one of the 17th century paintings in the house. I can't vouch for any of it, but they're great stories. It's worth a visit definitely, but I don't know what the current entry fee is. I was an NT member back in the day. If parking in the nearby car park, be careful. There were warning signs ⚠️ in the past. The river is prone to flooding there, and if parked too close to the bank, your car may get partially submerged.
This is really interesting for me and I think the whole thing that you said are real. Actually, today I was there and I spoted two strange things!! Firstly, when I was in the tea room I heard something like a man voice near the fire place and I said no! May be I am wrong. but I am sure I heard that noise. Secondly when I was in the garden I heard a noise like scratching from the 3rd floor but when I looked up no one was there!!!!
Wow! Possibility! Hard to tell. They could be coincidences of similar sounds. However you never know especially in a place like that. Least they all seem to be friendly spirits there, all getting on with their own existence.
My dad worked there as a sercurity guard he didnt believe in no supernatural after 2 weeks worming there he said fuck that never again it was so eerie had a feeling that he was alwats watched

I’ve visited Ham House several times over the years. Never saw a ghost, but always feel a sense of sadness or melancholy when I’m in the house.

Oh! Wow! Thanks for sharing.
I never felt anything when I visited the place. Then again I probably wasn't there at the times your Dad was.
Can you do the Wookey Hole next
Thanks for the suggestion. Will see if it’s possible in the future.
I went yesterday and didn't see or feel anything supernatural, other than creaky floorboards and musty smells
That's the thing, sometimes you come across things, sometimes there's nothing.
