    I use to have a fairly large dvd collection of concert and documentaries. Now I don’t even have a dvd player ! I just live this part of life through people like you Jon. I had not seen that clip of Andy before, the singing redneck.

      The clip is from A Face in the Crowd that I talk about at the end of the video. Incredible film, Steve! Andy Griffith was a National Treasure.

    I remember this clip.. I met Andy Griffith when I was a kid , here in Nevada ( Lake Tahoe ).. What a grump ! LoL ! I have 5000 movies along with concert films .. I primarily group them together by Film Director's ! Jonathan Demme directed "Stop Making Sense" along with "Neil Young "Heart Of Gold" .. Absolute great film director ! . Jim Jarmusch is at the top of my Director's list.. and The Last Waltz is probably the very best concert film .Ever ! ✌

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonathan Demme is obviously a legend. Vinyl Richie is not a Jarmusch fan. I think he has some great films (Ghost Dog) and some that just fall flat (Broken Flowers). Cheers! ✌🏻

      For me, Jarmusch is fun, and I group them together by film directors as Isaid.. So I have some real heavyweights .. Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Coppola ( met him ) Bergman on and on.

    Some of the Criterion films 🎥 I own .. The Before Trilogy ( Second is my favorite ) , The Servant , Gimme Shelter , Salo , Betty Blue , Peeping Tom & Stranger Than Paradise. My favorite Wim Wenders film is Paris Texas with brilliant cinematography. Some excellent documentaries I possess include Another State Of Mind , The Decline & Fall Of Civilization & The Big Star one ( I forgot the title ) Concerts .. Siouxsie & The Banshees Nocturne with Robert Smith in the band , PJ Harvey , Kings X , Talk Talk & Oasis At Wembley where Liam welcomes the patrons with a hearty " Hello Manchester !! "

      @TheDigitalGramophone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that Liam! I love the Big Star documentary. I don’t own it but I’ve watched it a few times on Netflix. Not sure if it’s still on there. I do own several documentaries digitally through Apple. I had more Criterion Collection films but I only kept the ones on Blu-Ray. I also forgot one or two more concert films that I have. Bruuuuuuuuuuce from Barcelona!

    I remember an eternally drunk Ryan Adams at the time saying “I’m Trying To Bore Your Heart” referring to that incredible Wilco doc. That didn’t age well. Great collection. I purged during the move - but kept some. Pavement’s The Slow Century is fun. They had an extra cut of the band watching the doc which was funny lol

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Adams has not aged well. I was jumping off the train right before all that NYT stuff came out, but even going back and listening to an album like Demolition - I yawn. I’ll always ride with Whiskeytown though! I’ve only seen snippets of The Slow Century on the TH-cams. I’ll try and find the entire thing somewhere.

    I'm glad you made this thread response video thing, Savannah Richards. Maybe this is the start of the music dvd renaissance? I keep hoping... that Wilco doco was so fantastic when it was released. #teamBennett. Your friend Chris sounds very dedicated to his craft. Nice criterion collection. Are you recommending i watch Chungking Express if ever i find a copy? And it sounds like i need to watch a face in the crowd. Here for the education as always, thank you sir!

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There was a time when I said Wilco suffered after Bennett was fired. But I also was not giving Tweedy enough credit back then, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. Chungking Express recommendation all day/everyday. Don’t even wait for a DVD to pop up. Just stream it. Same goes for Face in the Crowd. Do it!

    I lived over in England when Channel 4 became a thing. Not surprising, there were only three channels when I moved there; BBC, BBC 2 and ITV. They had trippy documentaries right from the get go.
    The documentary on the band Death is a good one. Not the metal band, but the proto-punk from I think Ohio. Very weird story. Great video.

    I Love the Last Waltz. I always felt the sound on that blu ray was not good and a little too low, which is funny, because the beginning says something like, this film should be played loud. Well, the recent 4k that criterion did fixes it and it not only looks amazing but sounds amazing too!

    I have quite the Music DVD collection - I almost enjoy the Smile movie more than the actual record. Love the Wilco documentary as well. Listen, Short Cuts is like 5x better than Nashville (and A Wedding is better as well and nobody picks that one). Of course I know about A Face in the Crowd (I was a film major, after all).

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  ปีที่แล้ว

      Enjoying the Smile movie more than the album is understandable. I do love that album, though, and prefer it over the unfinished sessions. I thought about being a film major, but there weren’t a ton of options for me as far as colleges go. I stuck with fine arts.

      Yeah. I had the Rolling Thunder Pictures VHS of Chungking Express. Then I bought the SD DVD. Then the Blu-Ray you see in this video. You have shitty taste in music (except for ECM), so I’m glad you’re interested in these films. 😎
