Great technique! FWIW, if you have RX7 or later, you can use the Music Rebalance module to reduce a reference track to only its drum/perc elements. That makes it a lot easier to find and clip out a single kick (or snare, etc.) This can make for a more accurate starting point without needing to manually trim out some overlapping bass note, like you had to do in the 2nd kick in this video. (I often do this to isolate kicks and snares, so that I can loop them over and over while digging through my sample library in XO's cloud browser to find something similar-sounding.)

Thanks! I used a similar idea on the astrix example, with Steinberg tools :) but still got a bit of that strange nuance when ripping with Psylab - although it was much cleaner than the ajja example which I didn't process before-hand

lol, that's what I was about to add, now I just read your comment. To be honest at first to me I saw really no point to this approach, as I just mostly use Microtonic or simple sine osc with noise, saturation and compression. even using Kick2 a lot as simple as possible without click. You already shown us , how to phase align kick and bass. It opens up to me, for specific Genres, you want to even get into specific stuff (I am more techno kick drum guy) layered kick drum sounds, as pushing more the mid and click freq , so that's nice approach you let yourself inspire from kind of "Blueprint Kickdrum and then resynthesize it.. so it is not only copy, it has still creative part in it, Cheers ;-)

Hey Dash thanks for showing psylab :) , just a quick add: can make process a little bit quicker/easier just by drag and dropping kick file from explorer to the interface too in case

8:45 I wish Kick2 would be updated and just have a simple linear/log switch for exactly these cases. You could layer sounds sample-perfect if the nodes would match the waveform. They even HAD THAT FEATURE, but removed it, because they thought nobody would use it. I hope they reimplement that linear/log switch one day. I really do.

and expand the oscillators. Kick2 could be anything, from snares to zaps to whatever...but is severely limited by the oscillator.

Althoug PsyLab seems a bit 'easier' with the automatic mode, in Kick 2 you can get the (almost) same result. If you start working with Kick 2 you get quite fast with matching both waveforms. Last summer I created a whole bunch of Kicks using that method from various tracks. If you then dont like the transient of that Kick, you can use the Transient of the already imported reference Kick. If you look for an easy plugin to combine Transient, Body and Tail of a Kick you can look for Chop Suey VST. There you can phase align Kickssnippets with ease 🙂

very complicated tool, for very little use really.....kick is the last thing you realy need to get, I presume there are trillions free drum kick online, or if you have analog synthesizer - you can make your own kick drums (model D costs 300USD) and it's easy to use
