- Leonard Nimoy, Jewish actor most well-known for his role as Spock on the Star Trek science fiction series, discusses his trip to Soviet Russia as part of a program with the World Wildlife Fund. In particular, he describes meeting some of his distant relatives in Ukraine for the first time and shares how the joy of their reunion was overshadowed by Nimoy's father's death shortly after his return to America.

A relative of Leonard Nimoy was my Mom’s oncology surgeon for Stage IV colon cancer. She lived for 40 more years. Thank you, Dr. Nimoy and Leonard Nimoy’s family.

Leonard Nimoy. All the years I knew him as Spock never knowing about his life and the influence the Jewish immigrant experience had on his life. What a wonderful man! Humble, appreciative and rightly proud of his background. ❤️

His life was the perfect foundation to create the character like Mr. Spock.
If you watch a biography of him, he wasn't perfect -- who is? But as he aged, he seemed so reflective. I enjoy listening to his stories. There couldn't have been a better person for Spock.
Leonard Nimoy was/is one of the few celebrities I admire and not because of Star Trek, but for his life’s work and story.
Watching these fascinating videos only confirms how deserving he was for my admiration.
I feel the same way. I know very little about the man, but what little bits like this clip that I have seen over the years makes me wish that I could have met him and talked to him sometime....not about Star Trek. I entirely believe that he did a walk on cameo appearance in one of the U.F.O. TV series episodes. The scene was a pair of tuff guys come into a room, one wearing sunglasses, and ruff it up then leave. Nothing in the credits and nowhere any documentation, but I swear it was him.
Many of us feel the same way. It's the sum total of his life which I admire.

Clayf Welch I loved Leonard Nimoy and his Spock character. Oh boy did I have a crush on him in the 70’s.
I couldn't have never imagine, for only one minute, how handsome, well spokened and emotionnal he was in every true human way. I simply wanted to say that this man as really blessed me throughout this whole entire video. It's as though as if i felt a new Leonard Nimoy coming. In spite of his passing, i would simply like to express my sincere condolences to all the family members of Mister Nimoy as well as to the Yiddish Community of North America. RIP MR. SPOCK ! i did a black & white video of Mr.Nimoy after the first Star Trek series when he was traveling and doing some Shakespeare ....... it was in Indiana before 1970 ...... a very kind soul who i have not forgotten

It's so sad that Leonard Nimoy died when he did as the more I read bout him I had not realised how talented he was, I would've loved to have met him along with DeForest Kelley.
I have a photograph, personally autographed by this lovely man, which I have treasured since I was a 13 year old Trekkie. All the cast were amazing, and he was always my favorite, for some reason someone I really understood and appreciated even at that age. He was a wonderful photographer, and wrote the most beautiful poetry... what a great Renaissance man he was, he knew so much of people and the world...Thank you for this peek into his life.

I miss this man. The more I learn about him, the more I wish I could have met him. Oh, I'm your usual moderate Trek nerd, but this man is so much more than Spock.
I feel the same! From what I’ve read and have heard other actors say, he was always a gentleman and a compassionate person. Plus, he and my father looked remarkably alike. I miss both of them. 🌹

red ruM it was hard not to tear up at seeing his emotion over his parents’ death. All of us adults who have lost their aging parents can identify with that. I have a very similar story in regards to my father going back to a small village my ppl come from called Maalula, in Syria. We were the Jews that believed Jesus was the Messiah and had to leave Israel. We ran to the mountains of Syria and lived very far away from civilization. We became what is now known as Eastern Orthodox. Like Mr. Nimoy's family, we fled to America around 1896 and became Americans! My family has fought in WW I & II, Korea , Vietnam etc and my father is buried in Arlington.
That was a very deep interview and touched my heart! I'm glad he was able to do that.
Regardless of his iconic success Leonard Nimoy is a wonderful man who's wisdom and compassion eclipsed any aspect of his most famous role. In sum a lovely lovely man. God bless his eternal life.
What a wonderful story, a glimpse into such a unique man. I wanted to hug him in consolation of his grief when he bit his lip as he related the passing of his Father and then his Mother. Leonard Nimoy on whatever plain your soul exists, you should know and be proud that you had such a positive affect on so many lives on this earth. Blessings to all of your surviving family, dear man. The more I learn about Mr. Nimoy the more respect, admiration, and love I have for him. I would give almost anything to be able to sit and listen to him tell me these stories and to be able to engage him him conversation. He was such an intelligent, funny, interesting, thoughtful, and engaging person. What a gift to the world he was.
Leonard is a great storyteller. I could go on listening to him for hours.

DearHusband&i are big fans of the old “Perry Mason” show. It comes on the MeTV cable channel twice a day. We watched it last night. To my delight, a very very young Leonard Nimoy played the part of some girl’s boyfriend. It was a delight to see him act in this role.
He didn’t need to open up for all to see in ,but he did. How kind and generous is that?
I could listen to him everyday & not get enough. What a warm beautiful soul.

I'm from Brazil. I'm not a Jew. But thank you for these testimonials. Leornard Nimoy touched the lives of many people, myself among them. These are very strong messages that he conveys, such as the one in which he mentions the inspiration for the Vulcan salute.
This idea of "closing cycles" in relation to our ancestry is also inspiring. It doesn't matter what they are. All peoples need to learn to respect each other and live together respectfully.

Wow, I was not ready for that gut punch about his mom and dad, which obviously still has some emotional power for him. Leonard Nimoy was a great person and I could listen to him talk all day. It pained me to hear him occasionally struggling to breath in this, but he said in another interview that he knew that one day his COPD (which he accepted full responsibility for) would take him and he was correct.
RIP, Mr. Nimoy!

That was so AWESOME!!!! that you got to trace your lineage. and in such a special way by going to the places where it all took place. and be able too meet living relatives, and go to the final resting places of other relatives, that are further back in the lineage. even though traveling though Russia could possibly be a little tense at times. and to get to bring some of that is lineage back to your parents before they passed away. you are an honorable man Mr Nimoy and you are greatly missed.

I'm grateful for these videos. As a kid I appreciated Leonard Nimoy for being the actor who played Spock. Now to his life story, and see a him in a deeper way, is special. Also kinda makes me sad watching this, knowing he is gone. But at least these stories are captured on the internet for eternity.
