I swear to God he better give Sonic Riders the RESPECT it deserves! *Edit:* My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. But I'm going to defend it. The air mechanic is actually a really great feature as it forces the player to manage their fuel. They need to know when to go full throttle, when to dial it back, and where they can republish their air. The entire map design is built around this. I also think the presentation for this game is phenomenal, it looks as good as any Sonic game for the time and that's coupled with superb music, graphics, and level design. Some of these levels are just incredible and there is always something cool and new happening. Even in Mario Kart (arguably the best racing game ever made) some of the maps don't have distinct enough areas but that is never the case with Sonic Riders. And there are simply so many levels and dimensions to this game, so many short cuts, upper paths, and alternate routes. All of this routes reward skilled players, you will get the best route if your preform the harder tricks. I think the controls are also incredible. No, it doesn't feel like a kart racer because you are on air boards so it does control in a more slippery way but once you get used to it, you have total control. The controls are tight enough that you never have to worry about losing control or the characters going in a direction you don't want them to. It will feel strange to new players and they will mess up but once they master the controls, they respond perfectly. And that's the game's biggest problem, it is very difficult to get into. The game has so many mechanics, the maps are so intricate, and the controls can be indicating. It can overwhelm new players especially since there is no real tutorial or way to learn all these mechanics other than trial and error. But once you do master them, It becomes one of the fastest, most competitive, and most exhilarating games I've ever played. There is nothing funner than playing with a bunch of other people who are just as good at the game as you are, it's pure fun. That's why I think Sonic Riders indisputably deserves to be at the top of any racing game tier list. It is one of the best, difficult to get into but a pure joy to master. And once you do master it, there is no better game to play for hours of endless fun.
The problem with open-source games like Supertuxkart is that they're made by people passionate about programming but not necessarily passionate about gaming or franchise-building. These games are also developed on the same source code over the course of _years_ (I played the original Tux Kart when I was probably 4... I'm 21 now) so there's a lot less of an atmosphere of "let's build and release a functional game" and more an atmosphere of "hey, this thing that was hacked together from free libraries works, maybe I can add my own features to it" _But..._ I had a lot of fun with the open source games that were on the repositories as a kid, and so have my siblings. Supertux, Supertuxkart, Minetest, Warzone 2100, and there are a ton of smaller games too. I've tried some newer ones too even though I'm an adult and have the money to buy popular games: Endless Sky is pretty good and I didn't mind Battle of Wesnoth when I tried it. 0 A.D. has some super buggy multiplayer but it's probably the best open-source Age of Empires clone you'll ever find.
There’s a fan made sonic game my friends suggested I’d play. It’s called “Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart”. It controls surprisingly well for a free pc download game. Its a lot like the original Mario kart in terms of looks and controls, but it has a lot of courses and it’s fun to play with friends. Id suggest checking it out to anyone reading this
The amount of "hidden" effort this video would have taken to make is astronomical. Not only did you have to spend ages finding the cover arts to all of these games (there are databases, but there's no way a single database had all of those games), you then needed to print them out, and paste them onto hundreds of cardboards cut-outs (which you also had to individually velcro), and that's not even the most enduring part of setting up for this video. You also had to spend all those hours playing what most people would consider shovelware games! It can't be understated enough how much effort you put into making this, you deserve that plug. I find it funny that you put Crash Tag Team racing so high, considering it was only a partially complete game. As it turns out, there's a bunch of cut content that can still be found in the game's data files (on PS2 at least), so the game overall could have had that much more content to it. I wonder if that would have bumped it up higher on the tier list for you.
MK8 took so long to get DLC because you're playing the Deluxe version. The WiiU had a fair amount of DLC, and it's all included in Deluxe. Nintendo responded to demands for more, even though nothing was planned originally.
I can relate to Peter saying that when you were younger and didn't have many games to play so you'd play some garbage just because it's what you had... I 100% completed Madagascar Kartz DS growing up.
I lost my mind when he said he didn't get the crash team racing drift mechanics and then proceeded to explain them perfectly during the nitro kart segment as if they were unique to that game. WHAT DID HE THINK THE CTR DRIFT MECHANICS WERE???
I was so confused on that. I'm like "Did he really not know Crash Team Racing literally has the same mechanics he explained?". Plus I actually think Nitro Kart, while it is good, is worse because once player 1 finishes the race, the race ends.
I'm fine when someone doesn't like something because of their opinion. What I dislike is that Peter stated that there is no drift mechanics for Sonic Drift, and while I like the game, it's still not as good with the current standards as Peter pointed out. HOWEVER, I will not stand for Diddy Kong Racing slander. You hold the R and B button at the same time to do a sharper drift, which helps a TON on the later race tracks. Not only that, but DKR offers what I consider to be the most fun handling and speed mechanics of any racing game I've played. If you let go of the A button while boosting, you go a lot faster. Not only at the start of a zipper or using a blue balloon, the whole time the green flame is out. And because of this, you can go really fast, and have a lot of fun. My personal favorite racing game. Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed also handles speed very well with boosters that you can chain or collect to make you really feel like you're going fast. TL;DR Peter missed a few things about Sonic Drift and Diddy Kong Racing, Diddy Kong Racing is an excellent racing game with charming characters, maps, and mechanics with great speed control and momentum mechanics. Edit: This is mostly me ranting about one of my favorite games, and I respect Peter's opinion despite him missing a couple things.
I love the amount of work you put into this along with all your videos. I feel like your channel has always been quality over quantity, which is a rare exception among the current trend of TH-camrs. It's as if every one of your videos is an elaborate life's work. On a side note, I was really hoping you were saving the best for last with the Crash racing games. I thought CTR belonged in the S Tier, but that's my own childhood nostalgia bias.
The battle mode in Mario Kart DS NOT mid. It's easily one of the best in the series. The elimination aspect is epic and the strategy in balloon battle is great. Wiis battle mode sucks because it forces you to be on teams
@Peter Knetter you know you haven't mentioned a spinoff game but it's a mode within a game. And that game is Motor Kombat in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. I love it because nostalgia. Its so funny too because of the off-the-track fatalities.
I like this rank but I didn't liked how the Ctr and Ctr remake got knocked down points because he doesn't know how to drift even tho Cnk has the same drift mechanic
This video is absolutely legendary. From the hilarious and spot on commentary, to the actual physical tier list. It’s all just packaged perfectly. 🤝👏👏👏👏
Complimenting Crash Nitro Kart becos it supposedly has fancy drifting system that requires more focus probably had every Crash fan triggered lmao. Crash Team Racing actually has the same system and it works much better in it with letting you keep up the speed you build up better and giving you mooore speed and so on. In general Nitro Kart just does all the mechanics of CTR in a much lamer way. Tho yeah, CNK does add some neat stuff, such as the triple items and magnet track whatever sections, those are veeery fun. Also gotta shout out Speed Punks / Speed Freaks, didn't make it to the list but it's a preeetty fun PS1 kart racer. Characters look like Rayman OC's and it has a theme song by Jamiroquai. Unfoooortunately actually playing it feels like you're on constant ice physics.

Sonic Riders is an extremely fun racer, with depth leagues above most of these entries. The game juggles between being a resource management, QTE/Mini-game like, type advantages, playstyle diversity, secret tech and precise input kind of game. The game has a pretty low floor, where players can learn the game quickly if they care enough, and a high skill cieling that seperates the boys from the men and breathes life into its competitive community. Riders is to the racing genre what Smash Bros Melee is to the fighting genre. I respect your placement, as the game isn't for everyone, but I do feel the critique is unfair because the entire point of the game IS resource management, in which the game is very generous with. In fact the resource promotes player choice, constantly giving you options to play it safe or play risky on a dime.
Little sad you didn't bring up Modnation Racers but I understand why, it's not a spin off but it's an excellent cart racer that I'm so sad that I personally missed the prime of. Making your own tracks, racers and carts just would be something I absolutely be enjoying to no end, so sad that I never had the ps3 version until way after the servers getting turned off. You did talk about Little Big Planet Racing that is developed by the same devs before they got shutdown (United Front Games) but I haven't played that one and feel like it loses it's charm by not being it's own cool looking thing and such.
LBPK was originally supposed to be modnation 2, before sony "advised" united front to reskin it, though there was Modnation Racers: Roadtrip for the psVita, with all new tracks and ways to customise your everything.

I love the amount of effort you made into the tierlist. You didn’t even use a digital version of this. The amount of hard work and effort in this video is comparable to “ALL (720) MARIO PARTY MINIGAMES RANKED” by Weegee Plays.

I went and tracked down a copy of Bomberman Fantasy Race because of this!)
Sonic Riders Zero Gravity is better on a technical standpoint, but I have to say mechanically I think the original is more fun. In the original riders managing your air got me to learn the mechanics and not be reckless with my use of it, like boosting into enemies to regain used air, doing more complex tricks when necessary, spending less time drifting and trying new gears. ZG just feels slow and uninteresting, the tricks are gone, the drifting just stops your whole momentum and you have to slowly rotate the camera, and the boost is relegated only to certain sections where you have to hit some objects. And the way you upgrade your gear is weird as in you start by uprading speed first, then your signature ability and your gravity meter, so it descends in importance from necessary to win a race, to useful for shorcuts, and then to why do it. I find the original although janky, is more fun mechanically compared to ZG.
and yeah long as hell, maybe if the game explained the mechanics better, it would have attracted a more hardcore audience, since it is hard to learn at first.
Cars 2 the video game is a really good kart racer imo. It has sone wacky physics and little content but overall is really fun to play. It’s on wii, xbox 360, ps3 and pc. With other games on ds, 3ds and psp.
SpongeBob building bash for the wii was really good. It’s a racing game mixed with a demolition derby. You should really give it a try when you get a chance it has a couple different game modes and the story is pretty decent.

WHAT THE HELL OBI YOU DONT NEED TO MAKE THE DICTIONARY

yeah i agree, i love sonic riders, it's my fav sonic game
Bro, it’s just a youtuber’s opinion on a sonic hoverboard racing game
This man is a gift he did all this work for one video and just played it off and is a hilarious Genius
I love the meme roster of Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, like look at this:
Wreck-It-Ralph
TF2
Football Managed
Mii/Xbox Avatar
Danica Patrick
CTR has more depth than nearly every other game mentioned, especially in the remake
The problem with open-source games like Supertuxkart is that they're made by people passionate about programming but not necessarily passionate about gaming or franchise-building. These games are also developed on the same source code over the course of _years_ (I played the original Tux Kart when I was probably 4... I'm 21 now) so there's a lot less of an atmosphere of "let's build and release a functional game" and more an atmosphere of "hey, this thing that was hacked together from free libraries works, maybe I can add my own features to it"
_But..._ I had a lot of fun with the open source games that were on the repositories as a kid, and so have my siblings.
Man, I love Endless Sky so much. It's such a banger of a game and I love that it's constantly being added to and improved upon.
Id suggest checking it out to anyone reading this
I find the traction obnoxiously slippery.
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH I’m so sad I broke my computer dude
patter already played it in one oh his videos
@@ness3815 which one?
@@ness3815 oh zamn
Seeing patter appreciate jak x and lbpk a lot is absolutely amazing and I'm glad he enjoyed himself :)
Banjo pilot actually came AFTER Rare was sold out to Microsoft. It was originally supposed to be another diddy kong racing game.
10:07 There IS a Drift mechanic in both Sonic Drift games if you press the other button and turn
👌
I can't explain why, but this is one of my most Favorite Videos on TH-cam
Astounding on how many racing spin-offs there are! Good work on ranking them all and hearing your thoughts and experience was interesting throughout!
Banjo Pilot was the first Banjo game I played back before I understood how the world worked
@@lfroujibetmusic Hello!
Let's go, someone respects Crash Tag Team Racing. My most nostalgic and one of my favorite crash games.
I know they have the same mechanics, but CNK physics just feels off for some reason.
moment of silence for the $49 spent on paw patrol that peter will never see again
NO WAY WE HAVE JUST BE BLESSED WITH A NEAR 2 HOUR PETER VIDEO!!! Very excited to watch this later!!!
I thought CTR belonged in the S Tier, but that's my own childhood nostalgia bias.
just starting this video and I almost gasped looking at the chapters, you've outdone yourself patter, gg
I’m so happy you included lbp karting
The production value in this video is 10/10 I love u so much and so glad I found u
I like this rank but I didn't liked how the Ctr and Ctr remake got knocked down points because he doesn't know how to drift even tho Cnk has the same drift mechanic
Yeaaah, my bad. Lotta games, little brain 🧠
I like how you chapter this video because then I can screenshot the games I have not played...cheers mate 🙏🏽
There's so much effort put into this video and I hope it will get the appreciation it truly deserves.
This video is absolutely legendary. From the hilarious and spot on commentary, to the actual physical tier list. It’s all just packaged perfectly. 🤝👏👏👏👏
clicking the video without seeing the runtime was an experience
I can't believe Patter didn't mention how in Sonic Riders, Eggman held a race. Not a normal race, but a special race to see who's the fastest.
A WHOLE HOUR,well looks like I better clear my schedule for a Bit,I can't miss this 😊
Almost 2
Finally, the Patter Cocotg Kart Racer content I’ve been waiting for…
I would love an Air Ride remake with a bigger map, more controls, maybe cameo characters if we’re lucky 😜
More maps!!! Only complaint was it needed more hub world maps! It was so much fun
@@renoldojeffrey4653 just make the hub like city trial with all the little secrets and easter eggs
1:24:27 Because they designed it to be played with a friend, not alone all by yourself.
does that apply to Top Gear?
@@QF_Dan72 idk prolly
No one:
Not a single game:
M&Ms Racing: **boots up**
Peter: *I can break you*
Glad to see somebody acknowledging how amazing Jak X was!
That freaking automated voice saying “EEEE” and “A” I’m dying 😂😭
Good to see some love for Jak X
the chapters are appreciated the attention to detail is immaculate, either you my friend are a masochist or a true artist to your craft. I wish you well in your endeavors as a youtuber
I can explain why Sonic uses a car in most of the racing games he's in;
He's playing fair for the sake of the competition. He's not a cheater.
Absolutely DO NOT tell Caddicarus your opinion on Crash Tag Team Racing
Did you know? muppets race mania ( 1:00:09 ) was developed by tt games the developers of the lego games, and that grape sprite was featured in the lego star wars the complete saga as an easter egg
Where is the grape in Lego Star Wars
I was thinking the same 🙏
LBPK was originally supposed to be modnation 2, before sony "advised" united front to reskin it, though there was Modnation Racers: Roadtrip for the psVita, with all new tracks and ways to customise your everything.
LBPK and Modnation are amazing racing games. I always preferred LBPK though due to how insane the track creation was. you could really make anything you wanted. there was always a way
modnation was a real classic, ahead of its time
Imagine Peter going to a print store and he's like I need hundreds of pictures of off brand racing games, a bunch of cardboard and Velcro. XD his videos are amazing
Absolutely need more tier list videos
I love the amount of effort you made into the tierlist. You didn’t even use a digital version of this.
The amount of hard work and effort in this video is comparable to “ALL (720) MARIO PARTY MINIGAMES RANKED” by Weegee Plays.
I realize this game was a pure racing game from the start, but as far as kart racers go Mod Nation Racers was such a legit game that balanced a lot of flaws that other racers had while having lots of customization and great controls
Alternative video title: Kart racing games you didn't know existed
this is an incredible vid, i love the devotion and also oh my god i cannot imagine the nightmare this was to edit
Haven't even watched it yet and I already know it's gonna be a fun time. The Peter Knetter movie is finally real.
I like when Peter uploads videos where he’s a bit more serious
it’s great because it isn’t common I like how it’s rare so when it does happen it’s really cool to see
I never expected Peter to drop a video like this but I love it
Skipped to the end because the one game I was interested in seeing on the list was Crash Tag Team Racing and it's good to see it in S tier with the recognition it deserves
It's always a good day when Patter uploads 😁
For me this entire video was hinging on you're opinion of Crash Tag Team racing because everyone always Bashes it, but I hecking loved that game so much and so relieved to see it finally get the respect it deserves!
Bro I don’t like your list …. BUT I RESPECT IT 🤝
Peter: (Threatens to put Super Mario Kart behind Horrid Henry and Sonic Drift)
Me: (Internally screaming)
Peter: (Doesn't do it)
Me: You may live
Peter: I think it's overrated (Mario Kart 64)
*7Zealot's lifebar fills the bottom of the screen as a choir begins chanting*
(Oh and it's a great video, lots of fun, thanks for all the effort.
I’m glad to see tag team racing getting the recognition and respect it deserves 😤
Cars 2 the video game is a really good kart racer imo. It has sone wacky physics and little content but overall is really fun to play. It’s on wii, xbox 360, ps3 and pc. With other games on ds, 3ds and psp.
I love this channel
As a Garfield Kart player / modder, I am very upset. But this is a great video!
Oh my god this guy’s still making content
I can’t believe Peter forgot Crazy Frog Racer and Crazy Frog Racer 2.
Technically, Crazy Frog is racing based by nature, so I left those 2 out.
@@peter_knetter no?
Peter is a man of many talents I tell you, he does everything from drawing, creating dolls, cooking and now polygon style ranking videos
SpongeBob building bash for the wii was really good.
It’s a racing game mixed with a demolition derby. You should really give it a try when you get a chance it has a couple different game modes and the story is pretty decent.
It's called boating bash not building bash
10:11
This is by far the best, the most ambitious and funnier Peter Knetter video! No joke. This dude just keeps delivering and i couldn't be more happy :D
This is the video i always wanted to exist, thank you
