This designer does everything that should not be done when designing a loudspeaker amplifier. For one, the loudspeaker has a fairly large direct current driven through the voice coil. This will destroy the speaker in no time. Also there is no understanding of how to bias an op amp for single supply operation; the dc voltage at the non inverting input should be mid rail, not vcc. No wonder this thing sounds so horrible!
Very true, 99% of the crude Class A and AB amplifier diys will destroy your speakers in no time.

358 isnt an amplifier chip to begin with. it amplifies yes. but not meant to be used for audio. detectors and alarms but passing audio will always sound like crap. 386 would be better.

Am I the only one who thinks it's absolutely hilarious that they put a transistor in the circuit, when there's already an amplifier chip involved, absolutely terrible design, and that's definitely not how staging works, he didn't bias a single thing, all I heard was distortion, and that means you failed to actually build the amplifier, I am laughing louder than the distorted noise you claim is an amplifier right now, ....no.

Lots of distortion.
Because the speaker is directly connected to the supply. So there is both DC as well as AC passing through the speaker. It's the worst way to drive a speaker.
