If you notice in most of the scenes it's either Vera or Mel standing in between Flo and Alice. By Season 4 the tension between Linda Lavin and Polly Holiday is evident on screen. God knows what it would've been like off screen!!!
@Dennis Mc laurin Linda was jealous that Polly's character of Flo was more popular with the audience than Alice. Flo had the funnier lines and was far more believable and likeable than the Miss Goody two shoes, sanctimonious bore that Alice was. This made Linda's blood boil as the show was named Alice, and she was the star of the show. I would have called the show Mel's Diner and fired Linda Lavin. Mel and Flo made the show.
@@robertmesk6310 She should not have been though. Often the lead character is less funny then the more animated co-stars. Taxi, Cheers, Barney Miller and countless others are examples in which the lead is less funny but is still the center piece in which the other characters revolve. I could add Seinfeld to that list as well but Jerry was pretty funny. I wonder if Ted Danson or Judd Hirsch were ever jealous of characters like Norm, Frasier, Woody, Carla, Louie, Rev Jim, or Tony. I think Linda Lavin just had some insecurity issues. I do agree the show was better with Flo. I mean no disrespect to the two that came after her but we got used to Flo and her "Kiss my grits".
Thanks for making these compilations. Not sure if there are any missing from the first three seasons, though I know at least two are for Season 4, as they were on Antenna TV (Northeast Pa.) earlier this evening. :-) The one when Flo gets jealous over her trucker friend's female partner, and the episode when Tommy talks about his elders on TV (Eve Arden even tells Mel to "Kiss my grits" at episode's end. hehe)
Honestly Flo made that show she was so damn funny it was really funny too see Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday fight they did not get along clearly Linda was jealous of polly cause she was the star kiss my grits was a great quote
Did she say it in every episode? I was just a kid when I watched the show but it sure seemed like she did it in evey episode. It was lke Gary Coleman saying "What you takin bout". But I think Flo was funnier. I also loved Mel and Vera. This was a great cast. Vic Tayback was awesome and of course Beth Holland was extremely talented.
The best thing about this show is that it is remembered for Kiss My Grits and Flo not boring untalented Linda Lavin who should've been written off the first season and the show titled Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore like the movie the sitcom was inspired by.
Changed from Kiss My Honeydew to Kiss My Grits, because producers thought it was too racy sounding. I thought Polly was way older than what her age was on this show It’s like she looked older than her age back then and then looked younger than her years when she became elderly or something

@A Kayfabe Polly Holiday(1937-) was 39 years old when 'Alice' premiered in 1976. Today, the actress is 85.
I can't find any updated information on "Flo" is she alive or has she since passed on? I know Vera passed away, she was married to one of Murphy Brown's character in real life.
Time goes fast. I watched this as a little kid. Now I am almost 49, older than every one of the main cast members when the show began.
What’s your point
@Matt-hy2uw if you have to ask. SMH
used to watch this in school holidays or when i was sick from school..it was on about 10:30 am on weekdays
That last one was so touching…❤
That was my favorite show
I loved Flo's silent, "Kiss My Grits!"
2:08
So do I!!
I don’t see what’s so funny
She will tell you that in a hot minute, and don't care if you get mad.
I remember this old show.....kiss my grits
That is a nice video. I love both lines "Stow it" and "Kiss my grits."
Has to be the funniest catchphrase ever!
A close second would be Sit on it from Happy Days!
That’s what she said.
Aside from "Whatchu talkin about Willis?" from different strokes (before that phrase got old that is)
Little known fact, the line was originally "Kiss my honeydew!" But I THINK Polly adlibbed "Kiss my grits" and they kept it.
Even littler known fact the original line was Mel saying suck my dick but it didn’t test well with the audience.

Linda made it hell for the two actresses who took over after Polly left the show as well...
I noticed that in the 'time clock 'episode.
What do you think is behind their off screen feud?.

This video made me curious about finally understanding what "grits" mean :-D
Could never remake it.
Agreed.
True
Someone said they should remake it on another video, but I agree I don't think it would work now. That's true for a lot of shows.
I remember one episode where Flo couldn't speak and she wrote "Kiss my grits" on the black board.
That was from Flo, her spin-off show.
Omg I use to live watching this show
The episode where they were trying to break their bad habits was hilarious.

Vera should of had a spin off series!
Then she would’ve been unemployed just like Flo was two years later. Beth got 9 years of steady income.
This Show was before my time
And it wad really good to....
It was before my time too but I still love it nonetheless.
Mrs Deagle from Gremlins
i love Floe
Hans Conreid played the obnoxious Randolph Briggs with such hilarity. It was nice to see Uncle Tannoose as a martinet like him.
3:08 Best one
I love how Mel tells Flo she's a dumbass and proceeds to smack her ass.
Honestly Flo made that show she was so damn funny it was really funny too see Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday fight they did not get along clearly Linda was jealous of polly cause she was the star kiss my grits was a great quote

Kiss my __ fill in the blanks lol classic
I remember this show, the truth was everyone only watched it to hear her say KISS MY GRITS

Hey, it worked! She kept saying it because the audience loved to hear it!
She also said "when donkey's fly"
I can't find any updated information on "Flo" is she alive or has she since passed on? I know Vera passed away, she was married to one of Murphy Brown's character in real life.

What was the last one @ 3:11
It was Flo’s last “Kiss my grits.” She left the series to star in her own spin-off series “Flo.”
@@baritone75 how did you know that i never saw this one.
@@johndean4727 I’m old enough to remember it, plus I confirmed it on IMDB.
