Leopard 2A6 gunner here. I can tell you that, at least with modern tanks (and specifically the Leo since I don't know much about others), gunnery is really handy to do and doesn't require much physical strength. Maybe the only hard things were honing my reaction times, knowing what all the buttons do and maintaining a clear understanding of procedures and commands.

IL-2 has a ground forces expansion that also does this, although it's much more expensive since you're basically buying a game within a game and paying for all those modeled interiors. But the concept has been around before this

Not only no but hell no, if you get motion sick in any part of a tanks mission, you just became a ground pounder not a tanker. Thats what advanced individual training was for, to see if you could hack it and if not, off to infantry school with you! This can only be funny in a game ffs, no one wants to clean up the tank after you got sick in it.
Being a tanker, I was not surprised you guys don't know how much you actually need to communicate on coms. Like the moment when you were engaged from the rear by the T-34 and the gunner swung the gun past the target. Communication is key to surviving engagements, considering the TC is simultaneously giving commands to the driver and gunner. For instance "Driver, traverse left! Short halt! Gunner, AP tank, 500 meters, traverse left! Steady...steady...steady...on! Fire!". This level of communication takes alot of training and knowledge of using tank commands given by the TC. Gives alot of respect to TCs because they have the most experience on the Tank and how to engage one or multiple targets. Not only that, the TC must also rely and trust his crew to operate and maintain the Tank so that they can survive and complete their objectives. Overall, beginner's experience is kinda fun to watch. Hope to see you play more of this and attempt to use tank commands as the TC. Might be fun!
I'd love to see if they could make a good loader mechanic in VR. WIth motion controls and a VR headset, I could see scrambling to find the right round type among the racks and get it into the breach while everyone shouts at you being good fun.
@@toolbaggers i think it could be good. In combat reload time matters and your ability can make a difference for you and uour crew. In the train sim example there is not as strong of a motivator. Plus the design of a coal engine keeps the coal in the same spot as you shovel, while you actively need to keep track of where your shells are. And after combat you move shells from stowage back to a ready rack. Plus the loader would probably only be played when you already have friends as crew and friends can make almost anything fun.

This would have the added factors of knowing where you've got each round type stowed, how many of each you've got, listening comprehension of what the commander has called for, and moving rounds from deep stowage to ready racks during lulls to try and keep your load times as fast as possible. While this might not be for everyone, I could see ways that this might be more fun than driving.

Tanks though, it's still much easier than in WW2 tanks, and also easier than in WT(besides not being able to turn off zoom, you need the commander for it)

In modern UK tanks the loader is the second in command. Since his job is the simplest, so he can have the same overview of the situation that the commander has, while the driver and the gunner can be busy doing their own job.
I played this. Really rough around the edges but shows a lot of promise! I hope they add auto-leveling for unbuttoned views soon, the viewpoint following the turning/tilting of the tank really messes with my equilibrium.
This game looks like tons of fun. I wonder how well the non-VR version will function. I'm also curious if they'd every give us the option to have a player loader rather than an AI loader. I know a lot of people would find it boring but it could be fun in an engagement to have an advantage because you have a skilled loader who knows where everything is and can load faster than an AI loader. Probably not practical but just a thought.
Hey Spookston, you should check out this other VR Tank game called "Armored Front" (Not sure if this is the same game) but I think it's worth taking a look considering that the Dev said it was going to be a CO-OP PVE/Sandbox
if people want this without VR, you can get a pretty similar multi crew tank experience in post scriptum, although the tank only game mode rarely has servers
Served as the commander of a Gvozdika self propelled howitzer in the Finnish army. A bit different ofc from an MBT crew but still. Both the driving and hitting stuff as well as the 'where did it come from' feel super familiar from training exercises. The motion sickness you get used to, again not quite so severe in a howitzer. Also watching this the military lingo and brevity codes really come in handy with taking as much as people call it being tacticool in games :D
Will/have you tried Il-2 Great Battles Tank Crew, it is like this but not VR. I enjoy it a lot. I like how hard it is to see out of the tank while buttoned up. If you play I would recommend the advance and secure server, because it has a focus on tanks. Good variety of tanks too, though the Germans are a little overpowered because servers often give them 5 tigers 5 panthers and 5 elephants.
Hey please take a look into tanks in Red Orchestra - heroes of stalingrad It is similiar in that you actually have to navigate around the inside of the tank and the combat is focused entirely around the infantry which also is always the biggest threat to tanks

@@l.a.wright6912 yeah, most cannons and their respective shells now fall as they should, meaning distant engagements are much more viable. That being said, fast lighter tanks still pose the threat of getting on your flank and occasionally ramming, although since you have 4 players instead of just yourself it’s easier to see them coming and usually only takes one shot to kill. Also dedicated armored modes are present for those who like that, granted most engagements take place at medium or close.
Been hoping for a game like this. Getting to operate things manually while chaotically attempting to herd your cats (er, friends) into shooting the tank directly in front of you.
Can you imagine 4 or 5 of your average WT players being randomly teamed up as a crew and then told to work together. Just think of the teamkilling potential!
You didn't need to go VR for the experience. There is Steel Beasts Pro PE and Steel Armor that let you fight from inside the tank. Hell ArmA 3 with the right mods would work.
I've played Enlisted for a bit and i can already tell how hard it is to be a tanker in WW2. You're mostly blind on the inside with only small view ports to let you see where you're going.
Believe me it would be incredibly boring after a while, I play hell let loose where you have the place as a loader in artillery, after 5 repeated shots, it gets repetitive and boring
Being the driver of an MT-LB, this looks like fun. Probably the worst thing about it is the lack of physical feedback and the fact that one must own a VR set.
Right now there are very few people in it however unmanned tanks can be filled with ai so as long as you have like 2 friends you can still fight enemies
This looks like an epic idea I sure hope that if there is a multiplayer mode you could radio teammates. It would be super cool to command other tanks like the maus

did they lengthen the engagement distances though. wts are cqc at best and ramming at worst.
