Those are a type of lock nut, the beveled, lined, side of the nut should go towards the surface you are tightening against. Great video showing how easy and cheap to fix.
Thank you for your videos! I really enjoy them and will reference them when I perform my own work. Did you have any type of symptoms prior to the replacement of these? Or was this sort of preventative maintenance
Thank for you for your comments, very much appreciated. Actually it was both, I'd noticed some rubber degradation and play on one side, not enough to fail it's annual inspection, but it concerned me. Maybe there was some sensation in the steering that made me look, in any event it needed fixing. Hopefully your job will go smoothly 👍
