I think we all as people struggle with self development, self awareness, healing, and growth. Nick, my man! You rock! Your Spiritual journey has been the impetus for me to become further grounded in Thai Buddhism. That is saying a lot because I live in the deep South -- in what is known as the Bible belt -- and exploring Buddhist Spirituality is often frowned upon. As a therapist you know, like me, you cannot take someone where you have not been yourself. I applaud your fierce sense of spiritual seeking and your ability to share that with others. In your search I know you have also found that the world is full of "plastic" people and I am overjoyed to know you have stepped away from that Lifestyle. How about meditating right down in the noise and grit of the city where people must live? It is easy to meditate in a far away place with nobody around. Try it with poverty, illness, old age and death about you. Detachment is not living without attachment. It is ignoring life as it truly is.

Buddha himself was a prince and would've inherited the kingdom from his father, but he left it all in the same pursuit.
Few things people can do to in their normal life without being a monk:
    1. Start building a better routine. Get up early before the people around you get up and meditate. If you do this daily, you will reap the benefits.
    2. If you're inclined to learn more, find a community of people that you can talk to and grow together. You cant learn it all on your own, thats why you need a teacher.
    3. Get rid of time wasting habits and do more meditation.

When I was younger my class took a trip to an Art exhibit, and one of the features of this exhibit were two Buddhist monks one younger and one senior together creating a sand mandala. As you watched the two monks working on this Sand Mandala you became aware of this feeling of peace that was a visceral feeling you could feel from several feet away as the whole area was roped off so the monks could work without interference. They worked in complete silence, and the experience has remained with me throughout the years.

We can all learn to develop the self and wake up to our true form as spiritual beings of light, and then helping others where possible. Love all, serve all, help ever, hurt never (Sathya Sai Baba). Everything is the light (Nikola Tesla).

Not to negate the good which you've gotten from what you've mentioned, but I'm writting you this to inform you further.
*I wrote this to someone recently, so it isn't directly related to you but read it in third person and you'll learn a few things :*
Sayit Aintso, please let me advise you otherwise, and I'll try to be concice I think this can help you make your choice.
Buddhism, and more speciically buddhist monastic life, is fundamentally selfish and cannot fulfill what it ought to fulfill.
*It takes more than it gives.*
What I mean by that is that buddhist monastic life is firt and foremost about your personal growth to escape suffering,
and when you're not doing that then you're simpyl begging for people to give you food, money or whatever so that you may continue to do what you do.
The rare moments in which they pray for others, they pray for superficial things like happiness, when that is only an element and not the whole.
This then brings me to the philosophical impossibility of Buddhism, the goal, which is Nirvana, cannot even be achieved.
To achieve Nirvana there must be cessation of desire, you must stop desiring whether those desires are directed at good or bad things, end of all attatchments.
For example lets take the Dalai Lama a few years back, he desired the liberation of Tibet, well how in the world can the Dalai Lama allow himself to desire at all?
In fact, this pattern is seen with most Buddhists, some Buddhists need to stop loving their own children, stop caring about other people, because those are attatchments.
*It is the one religion in the world where the ultimate goal of the faith, the purpose for become a faithful, is deliberatly negated every day by even the leader of the religion.*
In fact this goes even further, because to desire Nirvana is a desire in itself, and so is strictly imposssible to achieve unless you're handicapped and cannot ever think.
I have a lot to say but I'll limit it at that, I recommend Dr. Ravi Zacharias for more on this.
If you want to do something special, monastic, to end your life in a particularly honorable manner, take it upon yourself to become a saint.
Christian monastic life is far different from Buddhist monastic life.
The monk is specialized to work on his own character in order to not only get closer to God, a divine personality and not just an energy, but also to help other fervently.
Monks give more than they take, their living is achieved mainly by their own work as farmers, writters, engineers, sellers, whatever it is which can put food on the table.
Depending on the religious orders, they give food, clothing, comfort, even education, etc to others, charity work. And they pray not merely for the happiness of others,
they pray for the world(and sometimes specific people or groups) to eventually recheive eternal bliss. Unlike Buddhists which propose eternal void.
The monk, to futher his spiritual development, does contemplation(meditating on an image, a feeling, etc), meditation(meditating intellectually), mental prayer and audible prayer,
      Bible study, theological studies, etc.
Now I will simply highlight the "prudcits", I suppose, of the Catholic Church through *the mystics of the Church* who are superior to the mystics of Satan, that includes the Buddhist monks on the level of Shaolin Monks. Keeping in mind that God distributes gifts for the common good and not simply to glorify individuals.
You will know a tree by its fruits.
*St. Padre Pio,* stigmatized (Christ's wounds on the body) and transfigured.
*St. Vincent Ferrer,* resurrected more than 30 people.
*St. Philomena,* miraculously survived multiple attempts of execution,
ex : the arrows killed the shooters.
*St. Denis of Paris,* decapitated but continued to preach with his head between his hands.
*St. Christina the Astonishing,* resurrected during her funeral because she wanted to suffer for the souls of Purgatory (penance for others), she crawled inside ovens,
      put herself in ice cold water for hours, got attacked on purpose by dogs, etc;
If a particularly sinful person approached her then she literally flew up into the air to avoid their presence as she could smell sin, and all that without scratches.
*- St. John the Baptist Marie Vianny :* "Do not try to please everyone, try to please God, angels and saints - they are your audience."
He had the discernment of spirits, the true one, allowing him to read the thoughts and auras of others.
His body is now incorruptible, meaning that it breaks the rules of entropy (Psalm 16: 10).
*- St. Thomas Aquinas, :* "Man cannot live without joy, so when he is deprived of true spiritual joys, it is necessary that he become dependent on carnal pleasures."
He was notably guided by St. Augustine, who came down from Heaven, to write with him perhaps the greatest theological work of Christianity, the Summa Theologica.
*- St. Alphonsus Liguori :* "Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with Him, familiarly and with confidence and love, as the dearest and most loving of friends."
He could bi-locate (be in two places at the same time), among other things.
*- St. Louis IX, the King of France :* "Set your heart on God, and love him with all your strength, for without it no one can be saved."
He had a miraculous endurance, participating in two crusades with an armor that pierced his own flesh to do penance simultaniously.
*- St. Joan of Arc, patron saint of France :* "But since God had ordered me to go,
I have to do it, and since God had commanded, even if I had a hundred fathers and a hundred mothers, and even if I had been the daughter of a king,
      I would have gone there."
She had a miraculous endurance, once her neck was pierced by an arrow and she simply removed it.
Another time she received a cannon ball in the head, it made her fall to the ground but she stood up and brushed off her hair as if it was nothing, she won a war with a purely offensive strategy of war.
*- St. Gemma Galgani :* "Two feelings were born in my heart the first time I felt and saw Jesus bloody: the first was to love him, and to love him to the point of sacrifice ...
The other thought that was in my heart after seeing Jesus was a great desire to suffer something for him, seeing how much he had suffered for me."
Stigmatized, she was a victim soul, which means that through a mystical union she suffered the sufferings of Christ on the cross and her sufferings produced merit through the Mystical Body of Christ and were used to save souls,
this is also the case of St. Padre Pio and all stigmatized.
She could talk to Jesus as we discuss right now.

Destynation X Wow it seemed to me you have fear that a Christian might be converted to Buddhism. Its so funny, after you have said negative things about the religion, you have emphasized some things about Christianity. The quotes you've mentioned from some famous historical people, they might have said it, but that doesn't make the statements true. I was born and raised Christian but I have just converted to Buddhism all by myself with no external influences. Christianity was a lie. I still follow Jesus, as a teacher. Christianity was not built by Jesus because he was a Jew, it was built by the Roman Empire. The Gospels were not from Jesus, they're from unknown sources who didn't even live in his time. And Jesus didn't save the world, he taught people how to save themselves just like what Buddha did. Just like what Einstein said, everything is an illusion. A product of the mind. Mind creates what it wants to create. So god was created.

Cristina, pride comes before the deadly fall.
I speak to you as a former false Catholic, a former Protestant and a former fullfledged witch.
Today I am and will always remain Catholic of the Roman rite.
If there is anyone on this channel who can give you a broader perspective then that someone may be me.
You clamed a lot of things, I'll wait for you to back up your claims before I continue, because I want to make sure you're not speaking from a lukewarm past.
I am a voice in the desert, make way for the King of all for he is on his way, he will make everyone bow no matter what. To be the intrument of God is my only pride.

Wind Monk, your premise about all religions teaching love isn't even true. And I explained that in my initial comment on Buddhism I'm pretty sure. But to take a more extreme example, would you likewise speak like that about religions like that of the Mayan people who sacrificed humans on a daily basis, or LaVayan Satanism which teaches that hubris is the greatest virtue, or Devil Worship?
You are in danger right now, you NEED the Way the Truth and the Life who is Jesus Christ the Lord of lords.

We don't take away with us any thing. Neither material nor nonmaterial things .Just by living simple life of kindness & compassion , being pure & honest towards self & others , we release strong positive vibrations for the universe. These vibrations in the form of sankharas only comes with us at the end of our journey of current life. This I learned from Buddha.

Thank you, what you said is true and with wisdom. You can be a billionaire and yet be a good Buddhist monk. It's how you conduct yourself as a human and practice the teachings of Buddhism, on kindness, compassion, integrity, that counts. Having great wealth is good, but not attach to it in your mind and heart, instead use that wealth to create more, with the purpose to help others in need ( my concept too)
I am not a nun, but the way I live my life is practically a Buddhist nun's life. I practise Buddhism in my heart. Very mindful of my own conscience of do the right thing.
I believe in Buddhas is because I have several spiritual encounters with Buddha Averlokitesvara. At the age of 5 yrs old, while cleaning the high altar, I slipped and was falling backwards from a tall stool, I felt a soft power sensation held me and steadied me back. I knew instantly Buddha had saved me.
In my growing up life, after I had lost my mother, Buddha Averlokitesvara had even came into my dreams to guide me.
Every morning I chant Prayers and pray for blessings for myself, my family, my deceased mother (who had already reincarnated, my mom came in my dream told me, and I used spiritual method, to confirmed it).; I also pray for the trapped spirits in my home. Now my home is very peaceful, ( previously there was disturbances)

That is what you brought to the world... the material stuff you have , you got it by helping people, that is the accomplishment. It is not material and empty, it is one of the best way to find spirituality, to give to others. I will finish the video now.

Nick Keomahavong Thanks Nick. I live just outside Melbourne in Australia. I attend a Monastery one weekend a month or so nearby (in the tradition of Ajahn Chah) and that is great but it doesn’t feel like enough. But, as the nun their stated to me, I need to pay my kammic debt for now! It was my decision to have kids.
I find it hard to motivate myself to work sometimes because I am not doing it for myself. I want for nothing (no interest in going out to restaurants, clothes, holidays, etc). It is just for my kids. I guess it’s a lesson in selflessness.

Living in truth, living through the inner is not dependent on the outer aspects of life. You are just repeating the same cycle without actually seeing it. You are changing your life in a way of which resembles for you an inner change. It does not matter how much you shave your head or perform Buddhist rituals. You are still in the world of wants, you just changed the scene. Go inside! Meditate! It is not about your actions. Drop the ideas you have about spirituality. It is life, your life force. Spirit means breath. Sit down and breath. You can do it in the US, you can do it in Thailand, it does not matter.

Nick This is what I see. The Monk tradition is failing. in the U.S., Zen and Tibetan monks have been involved in several scandals Money and sex. Both Americans and Asians. Thai monks are involved in several very serious scandals. Myanmar monks are murdering people. I simply question whether the monk path is possible today. There are other paths of Buddhism that are not experiencing these scandals and they do not follow the monk path. If you make a vow or a series of vows and find you cannot live up to them, then leave. Do not cheat. Walk down off that mountain. A vow is a very sacred thing because you are giving your word.

I wish you well in your journey. Investing in your spirit is way more important than materialism. I respectfully believe that Japanese Buddhism is the best -- and we can be like Bodhisattvas who make a difference in the real world. Nonetheless, if you have a Thai background then its understandable you would follow the Hinayana. But your heart is in the right place. May the all-powerful Buddhist God Kannon guide you....

Ram Das has great speeches on this... leaving the corporate world to UNlearn everything and Let Go of what our EGOs had been gathering.. then wanting to go back and brag about it. In that case, you are back on the wheel. You still have a long way to go. 'How ZEN traps you' is another great piece by Allan Watts. ~ Good luck! X

Goodness me, I was just about to come back to delete my comment.... haha, and here you are! I didn't mean to say "you" as if "you", but anyone, we, any of us. You get the picture. Both Allan and Ram Das are brilliant, as well as Stuart Wilde, but nothing comes close to the TAO TE CHING. That is a level when we lose all *need* to speak and all interest to talk about (share) our "journey". ~ Nighty night! xxx

    • @NickKeomahavongOfficial
      @NickKeomahavongOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Stella Johnson haha. Thank you Stella for the clarification 😊 I appreciate it! I LOVE learning new things and the Tao Te Ching is AMAZING from what I heard of it. So much wisdom in it 🙏🙏🙏

    • @08Stella
      @08Stella 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, I didn't want you to get "offended" and my EGO to appear cheeky... as if I knew better. Haha! Well, the Tao Te Ching is read on TH-cam for 'daily use'. It is absolutely eye-opening. You think you tackled the EGO and before you know it, it shifts to yet another form and creeps up again. Like an octopus. Just when you think you put all the legs under the covers, one starts to flail around again. I would actually like to go to that level to lose all interest in (the need for) talking/teaching/ sending links to people to "educate"... (which for the most part I have) etc. and just BE. I wonder though how one goes back to society and joins the crowd again afterwards? You might find me on the top of one of those mountains sitting around watching the day go by..... HAHA! ~ Cheers and thanks for the good words. X

How to purify your mind? First find out what is in it?
There is noting in the mind but we produce defilements by entangling and reacting with the outside sources.
The Buddha's first advice to us is don't attach to things very tightly but very very slightly. Why?
Then we can release that binding quite easily. We attach to the things that we do not own.
For example do we attach to our house or car? Answer NO. We attach to houses and cars of others as well as
that you find very difficult to buy and own. So the problem is with us.
Buddha never said to do away with your likes and dislikes but don't develop those likes & dislikes to make your life miserable the Buddha reiterated and emphasized.
