I've just watched your 2013 Dusty Butt vid, but couldn't leave a comment. I enjoyed watching it big time. Cheers Darryl

Hey Transalper, awesome vid. The river around 4:30 looks like the same place we rode when I visited in 2006/7, where you got upturned by the strong current on your CR. That was a wet and cold day for sure. Good to see that TA going strong. How many km on it now?

Hi Dan, not the same river, the river in this video is about 250km south of Christchurch. Transalp has an easier life now, mainly used on easy gravel roads and highway. It's got 76600 miles on it now. Reliable as.

I did the entire main route as it was designed, there are 3 challenge options I did not take but the main route takes the likes of Dansys Pass instead of the Awakino Challenge, more Dunstain Trail instead of the Serpintine Track and Little Omarama Saddle instead of Big Omarama Saddle so you are still doing dirt roads no matter which options you choose.

Enjoyed that, did you have to miss out a lot of sections with the Transalp or did you do most of it ?

nice rides! have you ever ridden suzuki vstrom 650? I want to get either transalp or vstrom for touring around europe, and wondering which one has more capability off road? I'd appreciate your opinion.

+creazee Hi, I haven't ridden a vstrom 650 myself but have been in several group rides that included them and have a friend who rode one a bit and used to work for Susuki selling them. The Transalp 600 and 650 are better off road than the Vstrom 650, the spoked 21" front wheel on the Transalp makes a big difference over the Vstroms smaller fatter cast one which is better for highway. The Vstrom 650 does have more power though, again nicer for highway. The newer Transalp 700 I'm not so sure about as they put a small fat front wheel on that too.

thanks for your answer, I appreciate that. Looks like when I know how much offroad I'll be doing, then it will be clear which bike to go for. ride safe!
