sold in functional condition in 2003 by the wife of francis francis who moved to Nassau to convalesce until her death a few years later. Legend has it the wife of the buyer was not an island person. One trip was enough. it has since sat for sale for 15 years .... this video is the best update i have had of condition since 2003... nice vid
No Man’s Land. Barren and desolate. Felt like I had been trespassing/treading on someone’s long ago dream. Complete with creepy music. The peacock needs rescuing/looking after. Very sad.
It was a family home. After a severe hurricane caused significant damage, nana decided to leave it be. In 92 a cat 4, although not a direct hit, caused a lot of superficial damage. Damage that was easily repaired. But required solving a lot of logistical challenges. Challenges that come with a self sustaining property. The last hurricane that hit was too much for her. The reports and photos showed a lot of damage to the house, the beautiful gardens, and the surrounding trees. Nana no longer had the strength to travel nor the desire to see her cherished winter home ravaged by yet another hurricane and looting by passing vessels. It was decided by the family to sell the island and live with the memories of the once magnificent home with it's surrounding beauty: the gardens, the beaches, the sunsets on the horizon, the birds, and her beloved peacocks. The peacocks were thought to have perished in the hurricane because the care taker couldn't find them. But some how the hid or fled the island and returned well after the storm passed. Some are said to be over 30. Rare for them live that long in the wild. Two or three lived over 35 years when they were constantly cared for by the vet. How many did you spot? There were eight before the island was sold. The caretaker took food to the island for a few months after the hurricane. Anything could have eaten the food. We just assumed they perished or flew to another island. It's sad to see it in such a state. The buyers were supposed to redevelop Bird Cay. Cheers!
My wife worked there for 6 months in the early 1990s as a companion for an old lady Pat Francis (widow of a cruise ship millionaire)..said it was beautiful..sandy beaches, conch shells. She died years ago..Very sad to see it like this.
A great video. I saw the box with the name, "Frances Frances" as the adressee. That corresponds to the comment listed here as to an owner's name. Interesting tour. Thanks.
Nice drone footage. But, would have been great with more 'on foot' footage walking throughout the place and some commentating, info/history about the place and without the music. Sorry, but that music was annoying for some reason. Had to mute it.
Could be many reasons why it's been abandoned but my money would be on hurricanes, looks like a very low lying island and very exposed, the huge fallen palm tree by the house, roof damage and what looks like flying debris damage of the property. Once an every 10 year weather event catastrophic hurricanes are becoming more and more regular! It's a shame as it's a beautiful location and a very nice property that is in surprisingly good condition, a lot of the damage looks fairly heavy cosmetic, a fresh coat of plaster, a lick of paint, a good clear out and clean etc The roof damage might have caused some structural damage and need remedial work but there is a good chance you could live in part of the property while making repairs on the worst hit parts! Ultimate DIY project lol I'll bet it will be like that for years and get much worse.....needs saving! 😎 Those peacocks are probably the ones that would have roamed around the estate and have survived the harsh weather! 😎
im sure no one would stop you if you showed up with a hammer and some paint,, there are other smaller houses on the island that would would be better to live in, in fact there are enough other structures to house a small commune....if you had a boat you could just pull up and move in ...even if the owner found out i doubt he would care , he would probably appreciate someone picking up a bit ...by the way the only reason it is abandon is that the market wont bear the current asking price, and the owner doesn't want to invest in the repair ..i may move there when i retire if its still sitting hahaLOL
All these places which have been abandoned are not by accident. Most people who have left all the worldly possessions did so for a reason, that's where the real story is. Many may be living in well appointed luxury shelters to ride out the coming catastrophes while the rest remain and fail to see what is coming.
I'd love to own this mansion. I also loved all that yard dotted with palm trees. A great find! Thank you.
Beautifully produced video, absorbing in how you film abandoned places
Thanks for a great explore. Usually I don't like drone footage, but in this case it was entirely appropriate. Loved the music.

What a beautiful place said to see it in disrepair
Thank you for the history of this island. Location ?

@@vg5157 the old lady
They had no siblings
@@erlindabenavidez3157 the old lady had 2 children..a son and daughter. She owned a beautiful house in Switzerland as well.
@@marcchrys that looked like a beautiful place just to getaway… so sad it came to an end… Thank You
Wow seems a shame that its abandoned.....who can afford to build a place like that and just walk away... sad
It looks as though it has been ravaged by a hurricane and abandoned.
Likely a few big storms, most recently Hurricane Matthew. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Matthew

Imagine spending all that money just to have a 3 foot storm surge take it all away.
I know islands are alluring but in the future get to a higher elevation.
That’s what insurance is for

Hurricane.. Flooded and ocean watersalt kills every thing but palms.
I personally don't care to watch air drones video, it's much more interesting to see the interior of a location than the exterior👍
nice house, but the music is bad..
Very very bad

Thank you for your information.
Thank you so much for sharing your informative video.
Poor peacock is stuck there. Take him with you.
They fly to neighboring islands when they want.
Just a little summer cottage, huh?
I used to live there.
Place looks as if it has been flooded
The Magic the wonderment the paradise envisioned all cancelled out by a Hurricane and possibly the real estate crisis in North America

I don't think it was that complicated but that wouldn't fit your narrative too well.
@@archneme4614 Explain? How so? And why not?
Looks like Pablo Escobar's old place. Where is this?
Shit I will live there if you want
I just want a real manager..
