    Her natural face is not ugly, just "average". It's kind of sad she's so happy to hear "you look like a different person".

    • @ninjal7588
      @ninjal7588 ปีที่แล้ว +164

      I also think that social media(tiktok, reels etc) makes people feel uglier than average. 10 years ago the homepage used to be just people who you follow, average people who you know and a few influencers/celebs you like and have selected yourself. Now the home page is selected by the algorithm, and most of those people are much prettier than average. Celebrities and models have always existed but I think most people knew that those people are very beautiful which is why they are there, and not just anyone can appear on the tv. Not to mention people spent much more time interacting with real, average people in their hometown communities. On social media anyone can post and many people still think the popular ones are just average people with good videos, so the perceived "average face" has become an "under average face" or even ugly. It might take a long time for this to improve as so much time is spent on social media and online now.

      @@AlteraLinShe's actually average-pretty for Japan. Her face shape is very average but her skin is so good and healthy, also the color of her skin makes that specific makeup style look really good on her. The only "issue" is that her eyes are a bit uneven and heavy, but people here actually aren't obsessed with looks. If she goes out with that face no one's gonna tell her she look ugly or anything. Girls are taught that looking put together is good manners, but that also includes dressing well all the time, having you hair done all the time, having you nails clean and polished. It's about a polished image really, not about "hiding your hideous face to not offend anyone".
      This girl is just very insecure and it seems her husband doesn't really help her with it. How she has children with him and all yet still feels that she must be grateful because he decided to marry her is sad as shit and a huge red flag.

    here's the danger of filters on social media: most human faces look 'average', they have lines, wrinkles, acne spots, discoloration. Very few people are born in the world with exceptionally beautiful face and perfect skin, but the influencers on social media make us feel like that is the norm rather than exception. They lie about their 'natural face' while using filters and it makes normal looking people insecure about their looks. The big makeup companies and plastic surgeons then earn major bucks selling the 'perfect face' to us

    For me, this began to develop into a problem, where I was crippled without makeup and no one recognized me without it; a lengthy illness changed this, as I physically could no longer apply it and didn't leave the house for months on end.
    Overall, I'm happy that this broke my dependency and forced me to see myself without it. I won't tell other people how to feel (especially from completely different cultures) but for me, the makeup was actually a problem.

To me, this is ideal. We got to see the real person, including body imperfections - bow legged, curved back, flat ass, bunion feet, etc. He seized me up, I did him the same. Both sexes have their ways of trying to manipulate how other people perceive them. Part of dating is trying to figure out how much the other person is trying to manipulate your view of them. There is nothing wrong with trying to appear nice in public, but since dating is more intimate people tend to want to know the "real" person before investing emotionally in that person. As a woman who loves makeup too, I think every human being is unique and beautiful no matter what color, size or race you have. Wearing makeup is just a plus, a bonus and, an enhancer for the natural features that we already have. Beauty standards and ideals will always change throughout the history but nothing beats the "inner beauty" of being kind to others.

    I'm glad you made this video as it touches on a question I have wanted to pose for many years but didn't thinking that it would sound offensive...
    I greatly admire Japan, but one thing that has always bothered me as a Westerner is that there seems to be a great deal of importance placed on completely superficial things with many Japanese. This issue of ranking "self-worth" with ones appearance and trying to live up to some standard that only a very small segment of the population can achieve is one of them.
    So, my question and I don't want this to sound indelicate.. but...
    Is there some cultural stigma or self-loathing about not looking "Western" or not being "Caucasian" enough?..
    I know that may sound crass.. but for decades from the time I was a boy, it just seems that a huge percentage of Japanese ANIME, Super Hero like Stories or even just what they think looks cool and what is perceived as "Beautiful" all appear to be WHITE WESTERN People?...
    I mean, your Anime is the prime example.. The charcters are supposedly native Japanese, but they all seem to have fair, light skin, long flowing light colour hair (or even blonde), but the glaring one.. BIG WHITE WESTERN Eyes.. Almost always!..
    The people many Japanese seem to most idolize do NOT look Japanese at all?..
    Its really as if there is a self-loathing trait to much of your media??
    If the above have given anyone offense, that was not my attention...But I am genuinely very, very confused.
    I would really like to see NOBITA touch on this topic. Thank you!
    PS: I personally feel that Japanese women are BEAUTIFUL!.. Dark hair, brown eyes and "normal" eyes and all!

      Short answer: Yes, Asians have a lot of self-loathing for their features, particularly monolids and their flat noses. They are extremely proud of their fair skin though although i've seen Asian women tan themselves because they hope Western men will find them exotic. Creepy AF.

    • @taylorwilliams9694
      @taylorwilliams9694 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's interesting how you associate the "non" japanese features in anime immediately with "caucasian". Fair skin, loads of japanese have it. "BIG WHITE WESTERN EYES" you say, when many would argue that Middle Easterners and Indians tend to have much larger, deep-set eyes than causasians, on average. And Africans aren't excluded.
      Now I agree that there are characters with hair and eye colors that are more common among europeans, (it helps appeal to western fans). Just look how big Naruto got in the West because of his blonde hair and blue eyes. Western kids were able to relate to him better that way. Theres nothing wrong with that. I do agree that there seems to be a favoritism towards double eyelids in Asia which I don't get. People find asians attractive for a reason, and it has a lot to do with their natural monolid eyes.
      However I can't help but laugh at the notion, "If it ain't asian, it must be caucasian!"
      This mostly seems to come from caucasians too. I guess it's their way of feeling represented in such a popular domain. That's fine I guess.
      I have noticed though, that Asians cosplaying anime characters tend to resemble them the best. Probably has to do with their softer, neotenous features. When caucasians cosplay, they just end up looking emo, hehe. Hey, as long as they're enjoying themselves who cares.

    • @Bubbles-od2tv
      @Bubbles-od2tv ปีที่แล้ว

      It's strange how that works. Having an ugly face makes a woman very humble, and such women are usually the first to get married because they're so grateful when a guy likes them, and this usually happens in the teenage years when guys have strong hormones and are desperate for a woman. A beautiful woman will automatically have higher standards, also men are more intimidated by her, and finally she may not even be able to get married.

    To be fair she wasn't smiling let alone optimistic in the before image, females in Japan aren't alone makeup insecurity it's quite common everywhere now, it's when you cake on makeup that it looks trashy just like fragrance being an assault on organs by the way the skin is an organ too, a little goes a long way...on other hand ancient lore describes the fallen angels demoted into demons, wispered the method of allure illusion makeup to women.

  • @lifeline_
    @lifeline_ ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I personally don't like makeup or the urge to use it(especially over using it), but it's not like I don't understand why people do.
    For her, after my experience living in Japan, she just looks average without makeup, and that's not at all bad, but I also know how people can be over there.
    On the other hand, I would say that it makes more sense for her, not because of attractiveness, but the makeup magnifies her expressions, making it seemingly easier to tell her emotions (maybe?).
    Her face looks more expressive, but that could be due to confidence.
    But I guess my disdain for makeup comes from what she said about it being hard to find love with that face.
    The competition from women and tacit acceptance of the increasing standards from men (yes, everyone is to blame) is making average and above average girls think they're ugly and with social media making more women seek validation online.
    Then, using it can make their skin worse, furthering the insecurity and making the problem bigger.

    Firstly I am exceptionally impressed with her ability, the change was a very noticeable one.
    Secondly, I am honestly a little bit jealous of women's ability to so readily change their appearance. Whilst I know that makeup is becoming more and more common amongst men, I personally don't like the current styles that appear to be in fashion, they're too effeminate for me. Not to mention that at my age (I am will be 40 in a few years) I would feel exceptionally silly, not to mention very much out of my depth using such products. Hell, I have only somewhat recently begun to do a semi frequent skincare routine (mostly because I have been told by enough people that I am starting to believe it, that I look like I am in my late 20s/only just have entered my 30s). And as vain as it may be, I'd like to hold onto that for as long as I can because I certainly don't feel my age, I still have the same physicality (which I am very thankful for) and mentality as I did at 21, for better or worse lol).

      @@malkontentniepoprawny6885 Likewise and I doubt that I honestly would wear it, it's more my raging against the inevitably of aging.
      Still I have learnt a few things since I wrote the comment and am now trying to take better care of my skin. Nothing too extreme, but I am noticing the difference at least. I'm not getting as adverse reaction to shaving at least (it used to leave my face very dry and tender, despite making use of a moisturising after shave). I don't expect it to work miracles (though as I said I am noticing results) and if all it does ultimately is boost my self confidence I would still have to consider that a win.

    Companies that want to sell a product, prey on our insecurities, make their products seem more valuable than they actually are, and/or offer it as a new development to give you an edge over your competition. Honestly, these companies don't have your best interest at heart, are not necessary and just want to make a sale.
