My buddy (GRHS), had a 63 split window 327 fueley, black with a white stripe going down the middle. We called it "The Skunk". It was BEAUTIFUL and fast although prone to vapor lock. Loved that car. Sadly, he piled it up on Route 12 in NY heading north towards Old Forge, our old summer stomping grounds. We were kids really, 18 or so years old, and we mourned that car like a family member. My buddy didn't get hurt in that one, but a motorcycle accident finally got him several years later.
The Mercedes 300 gull wing is the archetype for the gen 2 Corvette. The fender vents, strakes over the wheel arches and general form of the Corvette (albeit reinterpreted) are all based on the gull wing.
I love the 67 with a big block. Unfortunately, they are pretty much made of unobtainium these days. I'm tempted to have Mongoose Motorsports build a Grand Sport for me with an LS7 and TKX 5 speed just so I can have the C2 look and drive it without too much worry.
After all these years I do not understand why people gravitate to them from 1963 through 1967 they did not handle around corners after 110 mph it wants to fly like a Cessna and your steering becomes non responsive it only wants to go in a straight line, keep in mind you are airborne at 82 mph these were horrible cars the 1968 427 in my opinion was a much better car it still had the ignition on the dashboard and the early ones had no side stingray emblems from the factory since they forgot to install them at Tonawanda. I happen to own one I bought my just out of High School for $2700.00 it was a Rocket at the time, just on premium gas.
I have one that looks identical to this red one. Dad brought it home in 1970. 427/400 hp. Still looks new and runs great.
You are a lucky man. It's just a fantastic car.
63 thru 67. Had them all. Love them all.
Yes !!! … love the rare black & red Scorpion edition !!!

I'll agree with you on the 67 being the best of the bunch. 65 to 67 for me.
Cheers 🇨🇦
The L88 was underrated at 430hp, the tripower 427 top of the line was 435hp.
Gimme a custom '63 with that '67 Stinger Hood🔥
1967 was a good year for a lot of cars .
Great post, Rick!

I had a’64 C-2 those had drum brakes. These were the greatest of all - in my opinion
Thank you Rick
Best bang for the buck the C5. Friend of mine just bought a beautiful black C5 for $10k
The Stingray.
Best looking scoop in history. A 1967 with a 2010 LS7 427 would be my choice.
I think it’s the best looking, but the front end starts to lift at 120 mph.
The best one is the one you own.
Me like.

That huge rear backup light looks like crap.
"Best" is subjective - I would say the latest C8 probably is the best ...
No.
Would love one in white over red
I have a white over teal coupe.
If this us serial number #2962 it was mine. Pipes redlines leather...no it wasnt.
