I give this a 4/5. The beginning was kind of slow, but once I was about halfway through, I couldn’t put it down. It’s quite the appropriate book for my video about solitude given that the main character experiences social isolation for her entire life. It’s about a little girl who grows up alone in a shack on the marsh after her family abandons her. She educates herself about the land and the animals and a mysterious death in town puts everyone on edge. It’s a good mix of mystery, thrill, and romance to keep you engaged. I really enjoyed this book, just didn’t like the slowness in the beginning.

A little tip about Florida. Whenever you come upon a body of water, assume there's an alligator in it. Because there probably is. This is important if you have pets or if you decide to take a dip on a hot, humid day.
This solitude that you speak of sounds... AMAZING! It would be something to not speak to another human for days or weeks. I prefer most activities alone (hiking, traveling, skiing, eating, shopping). I've always been introverted and high anxiety around people - I can relate. Being around people is just exhausting.... the small talk, awkward silence, listening to life stories, ugh

Wow, kind of hard for me to relate because I'm very extroverted. I feel that going through life isn't a complete journey without having someone to share it with, but to each their own. It just seems like such a lonely existence.

Yes, there are still many introverts in the groups that I follow who struggle with loneliness.
That is exactly how my husband builds fires in the woods! He throws a huge log on it and lets it burn in half until it’s gone!! It drives me nuts when people are looking at a log and say they don’t have an axe or saw so no fire!! Lol stay safe! Sending happy vibes from the Pacific Northwest

As a fellow introvert, I would like to share with you the physiological differences. It's all about dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, that is thought of as a 'reward'. When us humans do something that is perceptually positive, dopamine flows to the region of the brain that is in use for that particular activity. Dopamine excites that region, informing us that what we are doing is good, and to keep doing it. Stimulation. But with us introverts, the flow of dopamine can get a little lost, and will pass through other regions of the brain that are not active. This intern will activate those regions, and we waste energy. So when we interact with other people, it can be tiresome. We then, instinctively, augment our behavior to limit the 'stimulation' and save energy. I've heard some people say they are extroverted introverts. This is not possible. Our biology contradicts this. It will depend on which regions the dopamine will flow through, and to what degree.

But someone can be the "life of the party" yet still an introvert. It's like when you do decide to interact with others...you are all there/fully present/firing on all cylinders/jumping in with both feet , but you know when it's over you can retreat next to your own space, where absolutely no one is allowed. Anyone who met that person at "the party" would never ever think they were an introvert as they chat to almost every single person and overflowing with energy and happiness. So I think extroverted introverts are indeed possible 😊

The biology of an extrovert is the opposite. What you're describing is actually what I am. I'm a hyperactive introvert. It's biology and not personality. I'm my own worst enemy. I'm easily stimulated and if I don't manage it, I will actually experience a degree of physical pain. I now spend most of my time alone.
Vaseline and cotton makeup remover pads are great for starters. Stay creepy and weird🤪

Haha you're hilarious. Love your editing style. I'm a BIG introvert. It's weird in highschool I was life of the party. Every. Weekend. Now in my 30s I couldn't imagine having friends in real life. Like you said I can get my social fix in the reddit comments, or by talking to someone I don't know in public for 5 mins. My 3 kids are all I need!
