I own both, and I prefer the Matador. I took the Osprey on a trip to Italy and the Matador on a trip to Romania. For me, the Matador is better built, offers a smidge more structure, and it has more comfortable shoulder straps. The Osprey is lighter, but mine got snagged on something and tore a tiny bit on its maiden voyage (not a deal breaker). The lack of structure on the Osprey made it feel heavy and dumpy and I was constantly digging through my stuff trying to find what I was looking for. The Matador offers just a hint more structure of all the packable bags out there so that means it doesn’t tip over when I put things in the upper zipper all the time, my Owala bottle fits in the side pocket, it has 4 or 5 carabiner clip things (I hook keys on one), and I love the outer zipper pocket for quick but secure access to things I need in transit. I like the Matador so much more that I have switched to using it as my EDC to work. Great video!

What do you think about the size and quality in general for travel and hiking?

Yes I absolutely agree with you. Currently using the Matador also. But if saving space is your number one priority (like in One Bag Travel) , I'll go with the Osprey since it's way smaller when packed 👍 or you have to take less stuff to carry the Matador.

For the Osprey or the Matador? What are your requirements, the things you absolutely want the packable backpacks to do?

@@Rhokx In my opinion, the Matador is better constructed and is of a higher quality. I hiked in Romania with the Osprey, and although it was light, all my things gathered at the bottom of the bag and weighed against my back in mostly one spot. Not as comfortable as the Matador either.

@@TechNbags Ironically, being packable isn’t so essential as I rarely ever pack up the bags (fold them back into their pockets). I want a day bag to be extremely lightweight, comfortable, hold my airplane gear -and without me having to feel around at the bottom for my airpods or other small items, and be small enough to be my day bag, but big enough to be useful all year round. The Matador 16L is perfect on most accounts. It’s 3oz heavier than the Osprey, 2 liters smaller, but is better constructed with YKK zippers (Osprey does not have those), and it feels nicer to wear. It doesn’t fold over on itself when I load the top pocket with my phone, wallet, and airpods while the Osprey does fold over.
