Amazing to watch. In so many ways that little Mini is like an english bull dog. Representing that little tiny island nation, that took on a germany with all its size and might. It stood its ground and showed that being small is no reason to give up or fear the giant. The Mini is the greatest car ever designed. The story of its life is one of inspiration. Its history is the best of the best as it represents a people who never stood down in the worst of times. It is the spirit of England made real into the steel and gears. It lives as a reminder of a Great nation, a Great Britain. I hope that I live to see the day that the real Mini lives again. Designed, built and Assembled by British hands with british steel and the British spirit. It is the only car that has ever made me cry. @@Radfordperson The A series engine by itself isn't particularly heavy, I used to lift them up and carry them way back when I had minis and I'm no Mr Universe. The complete engine and gearbox with all ancillaries weighs about 140kg (~308 lbs).
Two great cars, one built for the American city block road and highway layout and the other built for A roads and the awesomely tight twisting British country lanes.
A lot of people don't know that the 65 and 66 Mustangs were the lightest Mustangs ever made and therefore can corner better than almost any other muscle car of it's era.
The stock Mustang front end sucked! In a hard turn the outside wheel would camber outward, causing major oversteer. Shelby figured it out, but hard cornering could cause the GT350 front suspension to break.
Momentum vs hp! That Mini carries momentum great! Had a CRX and these low hp/low weight cars are so much fun and are fairly peppy/zippy! P.s. current Mustang owner as well and no bias!

I have a friend who races mini in the upper states of America......he is still beating the Ford Mustang round the corners and depending upon the track can even win races. He tells me that he rarely has to touch the brakes.
They are still a weapon of a car on the right track. We've got a few places here in Aus where they still regularly feature in the top 5 in historic races.
Anyone else remember Bob Gardner in his green metallic mustang, vs, Bill McGovern in his electric blue Hillman Imp (pimp), late 70s, some of the best & closest racing I have ever seen. The mustang throbbing round Silverstone with the Pimp screaming at 10,000 rpm (+?) up his exhaust pipe. The crowd went crazy, they did a lap of honour together & hugged each other on the podium.
They would of enjoyed that race so much and showed each other the respect not to hit into one and another .this is what racing is all about .good.clean racing nothing better and sometimes it doesnt matter if you win or not You come away and say damn that was a good race I know I use to race .I did win from time to time but had many races like this one
At the time in America, the mustang was called a small car. Just look at the size of the mini cooper. When it pulls up next to the mustang. The mini cooper makes the mustang. Look like a boat!
For sure, I haven’t watch F1 for years. Racing cars with different strengths on the right circuit is great. In Australia old Bathurst was good for that reason, long straights and tight across the mountain. Now every car is the same pretty much.
The greater the horsepower, the better? A car with a short wheelbase will be difficult to control, whether awd or rwd, and the mini will lose its flexibility and handling. It may not be faster on this kind of track.
BMC were getting over 100 bhp in the early 60's, so now at least 130bhp for standard entry Mini and more for the really slick jobbies. Carbs are often twin Webber twin chokes and LOTS of work on head and ports.
I had a modified 1275 Cooper S back in the 90's that could best be characterized as 'fast road'; it certainly wasn't race spec. It produced about 90+ hp at the fly. The mods were hardly fancy though. It was bored out, had a modified "S" head, 'fast road' cam, 3 into one exhaust, balanced bottom end, lightened flywheel and breathing via a 45 DCOE Weber. I really loved that frinking car.
i don t believe this,in straight line mini goes near on ford. i feel something this is a power X weight ratio race. and btw, very cool, it is pure PHYSICS.
The mini can go around corners much faster and thus has a higher corner exit speed. On the longer straights you can clearly see that the mustang is accelerating much faster. The mini weighs around 600kg with 110hp and the mustang 1100kg with probably 300-450hp. So the mini still has way worse power to weight ratio.
110hp? ahahahaha wake up.you just THINK about their weigh and power, and for ford you put "300 to 450". you are trying to help mini. on corners, they are close/similar,mustang is the same fast.the bad on mini is the small wheel. btw, original mustang has 1400Kg,1100 is without engine? lol
So how much power do you think the minis and mustangs have? That is around the maximum you can get from the mini without forced induction or some other fancy shit. The original mustang with all the accessories might be 1400kg but these are racecars and dont have anything extra. 1100kg was the weight of the base model mustang BEFORE any weight reduction.
