Thankfully, the weather report today said there was no sign of rain.* *The soft chime of the cafe door rang as I stepped inside, scanning the cozy atmosphere for a familiar face. And there she was-Airi, sitting by the window, idly stirring a cup of hot cocoa. She looked up, her usual quiet demeanor shifting into a surprised yet warm smile.* Airi: "Sensei... you actually came." *She murmured, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.* [Of course. Did you think I'd forget your birthday?] *I teased before sliding into the seat across from her.* Airi: *She lets out a tiny huff as her cheeks tinted the faintest pink. "No, but... I didn't expect anything special." *I reached into my pocket and placed a small, neatly wrapped box on the table.* [Well, you're getting something special anyway.] *Her eyes widened, her hands hovering hesitantly before taking the present and putting it into her bag.* [You're not gonna open it now?] Airi: *She shook her head.* "I think I want to savor the surprise for later..." *She murmured softly before looking up to me with a nervous expression as she waved her hand nervously.* "I-If you don't mind that is!" [It's alright. I totally understand.] She was silent for a moment Airi: "This was really thoughtful of you, Sensei." * She said softly, voice barely above a whisper. And for a second, I swore I saw her eyes glisten. But before I could say anything, she quickly looked away, pretending to focus on her cocoa. "...You really are unfair sometimes." [Unfair?] *Airi shook her head as a small laugh escaping her lips.* Airi: "Nothing. Just... thank you." *She said as she looks at me with a soft smile.* *Just then, the café’s waiter arrived with a small cake, adorned with chocolate mint and a single candle.* Waiter: "Courtesy of the house." *The waiter said before stepping away.* *Airi looked at the cake, then at me, then back at the cake repeatedly.* Airi: "S-Sensei... Did you-?" [Maybe.] *I shrugged before she could finish her question.* Airi: *Sighs heavily.* "You really are something else, Sensei..." *With that, she clasped her hands together, closed her eyes for a brief moment, and blew out the candle.* [Did you make a wish?] Airi: *She took a small breath before opening her eyes, her voice quiet yet sincere.* "...I think I already got it." [Happy Birthday, Airi.] Airi: *She looked up at me with an expression softer than before.* "Thank you, Sensei." *Afterwards, we finished the cake as I then walked her back to her dorm.* *As soon as Airi went inside her dorm, she went to lay down on the bed as she reached into her bag to pull out the wrapped up box I had given her earlier.* *With deliberate slowness, she unwrapped it slowly-till it revealed a framed photo of her with her club mates and Sensei with the word "Happy Birthday, Airi!" In mint green color on the top right corner of the frame.* Airi: "Thank you, Sensei..." *She said softly as she pulled the frame into a hug, a small gear dropped onto it.* "I'm lucky to have meet all of you..." *She whispered to herself softly, wiping the tear off with her hand.* *She pulled away as she put the frame on her nightstand before moving to lay on the bed.* *She stared at the ceiling for a while before finally giving in to slumber.* (Writer's Note: What the hell is mint?)
