This is the story of the last steam drifter that fished from the Broch- Fraserburgh- as told by Jimmy Lawrance, better kent as J.J. by all who knew him.
Thank you for uploading this video. My grandfather was a fisherman in the Broch. He passed in 1994 at the age of 96. But because we moved to Australia, I never got to hear of anything about his time as a fisherman. His father had a little boat, not much bigger than a rowboat (so I'm told) and lived in Pittulie. My grandfather eventually got his own boat, but the steam drifters were gone by then. But I would imagine that he worked on some before he got his own boat. This video is one of the closest chances I'll get to finding out what it was like for him.

You never mentioned Your grandad name or the small boat name ma Father was born in Sandhaven and was a lot up at Pitullie ma Dads 80 and went to sea as a 14 year old deckhand he was also a small boat person and most likely brushed shoulders we yer Granda
My grandfather was George "Shannie" Sim. His father was Andrew Buchan Sim. Unfortunately my mum doesn't remember the name of my great-grandfather's boat. As for brushing shoulders, that's definitely possible. I thought the same thing about my grandfather and Jimmy Lawrance in the video.
