This was a beautiful interview with a wonderful translator - the skill of the interviewer opens the flowers.
I've always thought that Fagles was the greatest translator of the Greek poets that I have read. A lovely interview.

part of the difficulty of translating homers works,, when homer spoke to a scribe, he said for instance when Odysseus saw his mother, he was very sad, homer asked him did you get that,and the scribe wrote down the words did you get that, so Robert Fagles had to work out what was supposed to have been wrote properly and not the errors the scribe wrote,
