Riley W What makes it even sadder is back then many children were illiterate. I actually have a deep connection with Newsies. When I was in sixth grade, I lived in Indiana, and hated every single second of school-I heard ' is this how you acted at your old school? ' from one of my teachers, and got in trouble for stupid stuff, like fidgeting-which I do when I'm nervous; which I was nearly every day-regularly, and I wasn't even a bad kid; I was too nervous to feel the need to act out. Indiana was my version of a ' big city ', because, before I moved there, I'd only ever lived in a same small town. In the small town, I'd gone to school with the same kids all my life-so, I knew pretty much everyone in my grade. Because of the unfamiliar environment, and the fact that I didn't really talk to anyone without them approaching me first out of fear, I didn't make many friends in Indiana and lost contact with all of the kids that I at least knew in my hometown-I'm still not the best at keeping up relationships. Anyway, I'll forever love my sixth grade music teacher in Indiana because she introduced all of us to Newsies. First, though, she showed us a clip of the original cast of the Broadway show performing at the Tony Awards. I was confused, but slightly intrigued that people dressed up in costumes and sang for something other than a school play; it was like watching a movie, in a way, but so much cooler. I ended up auditioning for the school's musical that year. I didn't get a part, of course, but Newsies is what made me obsess over musicals and all that, in the first place. Newsies was the first real musical that I ever saw-both on a screen and when I went to see the touring cast as an early birthday present. I'm not gonna claim that Newsies ' saved me ' or anything because I was never really in a situation where saving was necessary, in the first place. But I ended up finding online friends who were into the movie, too, and felt a lot less lonely. So, yeah; I owe my current obsession with theatre both to my 6th grade music teacher in Indiana and to Newsies.

I couldn't remember some of the names, and probably got more than 3 wrong, I still know my stuff. I love this movie. I prefer it over the Broadway version.
This version of the song is my favorite. Though the Broadway version is great, I find it a bit too angry sounding. By the end of that version, it sounds like they are going to murder Pulitzer.
I love the Broadway version, too, but I agree. It sounded too angry for me 😂 Which I get it’s something to be angry about, but I feel like this version was more ‘ we’re angry at how kids are being treated unfairly and forced to work in unfair conditions as a whole ‘ whereas the Broadway was more ‘ we’re angry at Pulitzer and are gonna do whatever we have to do to win the strike. ‘ Idk if that makes sense, but what I’m getting at is it’s different levels of anger and I just feel like the movie went about at least this song better 😂
This music in this movie is so good, I can’t believe it flopped when it first came out. Ahead of its time I guess. Glad it got a appreciated eventually.

Re: the discussion on "taking off hats for a lady" and the alleged death of manners, (which I guess has no reply buttons because Google Plus). I think it's a nice period touch to have in the movie. But in the present? Men are people. Women are people. Why would you take off your hat to show you respect someone just for what gender they are? And is taking off your hat as a sign of respect even in general use anymore? Also, I hold open doors for women all the time, but I also do the same for men. That's how I think of "manners."
Its not just about people being people. Its about women becoming a lady's and male becoming a men. We as a society have cut off what that means. Its more than just respect. The sexes of society no longer know our roles that we play. Everything is gray. Correct if I am wrong, but now people are wanting to make neutral gender bathrooms... If I can not just take a piss without a women being there I think I am going to go crazy...This society is sick....Its going so far as to say that its wrong to be a man, or a women to be a lady. Women are a weaker sex, and I have to be so specific because if I am not I will get my head bitten off...They are weaker physically..I could go on and on, but I am not...Unfortunately I have no real solutions, but I feel all I can do is just mourn for our broken society.
How did this polite disscution opportunity turn into a angry and hate filled yelling and threats? Can't people actually have a real conversation on a topic such as manners and gender without it turning into nothing more that trying to drowned the other person out?
Is it bad that I don’t like Catherine either? Jack has enough to think about! And I wish they stressed his friendship with Davey more bits that’s prolly a way unpopular opinion

Lyrics:
This is the story you wanted to write
Well, tonight is the night that you can
Just get this done and by dawn's early light
You can finish the fight you began
This time we're in it to stay
Think about seizing the day
Think of that train as she rolls into old Santa Fe
Tell 'em I'm on my way
See old man Pulitzer snug in his bed
He don't care if we're dead or alive
Three satin pillows are under his head
While we're beggin' for bread to survive
Joe, if you're still countin' sheep
Wake up and read 'em and weep
You got your thugs with their sticks and their slugs
Yeah, but we got a promise to keep
Once and for all, something tells me the tide'll be turnin'
Once and for all, there's a fire inside me that won't stop burnin'
Now that the choices are clear, now that tomorrow is here
Watch how the mighty will fall, for once and for all
This is for kids shinin' shoes in the street
With no shoes on their feet every day
This is for guys sweatin' blood in the shops
While the bosses and cops look away
This is to even the score
This ain't just Newsies no more
This ain't just kids with some pie in the sky
This is do it or die, this is war
Once and for all, we'll be there to defend one another
Once and for all, every kid is our friend, every friend a brother
Five thousand fists in the sky, five thousand reasons to try

Aged like wine
I LOVE SPOT!!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite song from the movie.
RACETRACK! SPOT!! I WANT ME SOME NEWSIES!
Hands down my favorite Newsies song...love this movie so much!
ONCE AND FOR ALL
This has been my favorite movie for years
I get chills when I watch this scene...I'm a sucker for underdog stories though...
They literally went YEET with the paper
just saw the movie. its amazing.
Other ppl's wake-up alarms:😴😒
Mine: this is for kids shining shoes in the street with no shoes on their feet everyday!
Love this film and musical so much.
This stupid theme kept playing in my head just now during my very first college history exam. I love it. It kept telling me to go on and answer because everything was gonna be all right. I couldn't remember some of the names, and probably got more than 3 wrong, I still know my stuff. I love this movie. I prefer it over the Broadway version.
Watched this in school and we are singing King of New York, Santa Fe, and Seize the Day for our chorus concert.
My school did newsies freshman year covid-19 happened RIP newsies forever
I love newsies ❤️❤️❤️
Best.Movie.Ever.
omg i love this movie/musical
This music in this movie is so good, I can’t believe it flopped when it first came out. Ahead of its time I guess. Glad it got a appreciated eventually.
OK I’m re-watching this movie. I have to now.🍿🥤
Lyrics
Denton:
This is the story you wanted to write
Well, tonight is the night that you can
Jack:
Just get this done and by dawn's early light
You can finish the fight you began
David:
This time we're in it to stay
Sarah:
Think about seizing the day
Jack:
Think of that train as she rolls into old Santa Fe
Tell 'em I'm on my way
All:
We're goin' over the wall, better to die than to crawl
Either we stand or we fall, for once, once and for all
For some reason I always thought Denton sang think of the train as she rolls into old Santa Fe idk why
+Cynthia M And neither will you.
How did this polite disscution opportunity turn into a angry and hate filled yelling and threats? Can't people actually have a real conversation on a topic such as manners and gender without it turning into nothing more that trying to drowned the other person out?
People can't seperate themselves from gender roles and take it as something negative. But what can you do?
Are u gonna stop being stupid
I did a project on the newsie strike and the songs had a lot of information
watched this movie at school and plus we are learning about this
Everyone else: read this *actually hands them a paper*
Boots: 🕺🙌🤷♂️🙆♂️📰📰📰📰
😂😂😂😂
holy hell i love this movie!
This movie makes me so emotional.
UNPOPULAR OPINION
Sarah and Jack had barely any chemistry and I don’t think they should have ended up together in the end.
Nah bruh that's just facts
That’s why I like Katherine better. Like, Sarah’s cool and all but no
sarah's entire character was trying to establish that jack was straight
like katherine wasn't much better but at least she forwarded the plot
that is a very very popular opinion that I 1000% agree with.
On the other hand, Jack had more chemistry with David.
Now THAT'S an unpopular opinion.
Is it bad that I don’t like Catherine either? Jack has enough to think about! And I wish they stressed his friendship with Davey more bits that’s prolly a way unpopular opinion
I get chills :3
i know christian bale really didn't like to be in newsies but
did the 92sies reunite?? i wanna see some vids or pics about it
Oh! I'm so exited for you! I hope you get the part.
Break a leg at callbacks!
Bruce Wayne= newsie turned batman!
The strike was good to him
Ain’t it a fine life carrying the banner through it all
A mighty fine life
Carrying the banner! 🗞️
Tough and tall 🗞️📰
@stg1998 I'm so jealous. We don't have enough boys for a production like this. :(
Me too :)
I love this movie
