I believe it’s because Amy Sherman-Palladio left the show after a couple seasons, if she had stayed on I feel like the characters would have better endings
There was also the thanksgiving situation when Jackson decides to fry everything even though he knows Sookie is a chef and was probably excited about thanksgiving and the episode where he takes sookie out to ski and doesn't let her ski. He just always did what he wanted without communicating properly with her
I totally agree, Jackson was honestly v controlling, frequently springing things on Sookie and being paternalistic about what she can and can’t do, and although it would resolve (if you could call it that) by him being supportive in the end, it really seemed more like manipulation to me bc he’d go right back to being controlling right after instead of actually being reflective or apologizing. But then Sookie started doing the same thing to Jackson! Constantly violating each other’s consent, making sweeping decisions regardless of the other’s input, and then ~making up~ rinse repeat. That’s what we in the business call a toxic cycle lol
@hiiij9638 I always felt the same way! I wouldn't get any surgery because my spouse demanded that I did lol...seems like a pretty reasonable response to me. He should've told her that, though, of course!
The lie was bad enough.....But to keep having unprotected sex, KNOWING she didn't want kids and that she was under the impression he had gotten the vasectomy.. GROSS!!!
I watched it before I decided to be child free, but it always bothered me too! That’s Sookie’s body that’ll have to carry a baby, not yours! If you really want kids that much, look into adoption or discuss it with your spouse!
OMG someone finally said it! I have a lot of issues with Gilmore Girls today, but I will always adore it and Melissa McCarthy in particular, because it was the first time I ever saw a fatter woman on TV just be a normal person. You know having a job, falling in love, living her life, and her weight never being an issue or the butt of a joke (I feel like every other comedy from the time is seeped in fat jokes and fatphobia related humor, i.e. HIMYM). In fact, I don't think it was ever referenced in the show at all. Even today that is an astonishingly revolutionary concept. I think Sookie and Jackson's relationship went downhill when the writing did in the later seasons, but to me that doesn't take away from the sheer joy I had as a girl in seeing a character like Sookie on TV. Love your videos and takes on things - they are always well thought out and presented.
Gilmore Girls definitely had some fatphobic lines, even in the revival, that was disappointing. But I agree, it was never an issue with Sookie's character. I especially loved the storyline with the guy from culinary school who had a thing for her. She was portrayed as a successful woman who was admired for her personality and talent. I also loved how Luke and Sookie developed this great friendship, respecting each other as gifted cooks.
I really enjoyed Sookie and Jackson's love story. The third pregnancy storyline really killed the vibe. It really broke my heart to see Sookie resenting Jackson for lying to her. She became so bitter about it, it changed her character, rightfully so. Her going away for a while during the revival was also a direct result of this. After baby no. 2 Sookie was ready to get back to doing things for herself, perhaps even moving forward in her career. Since she couldn't do it then, due to her third child, she made up for it later. It even seemed like she went away without thinking about her children, leaving everything to Jackson, it seemed very off-character.
Oh my god she got pregnant for a third time?! 😳 I’m watching season four and I thought Davy would be her only kid I can’t believe she even had a second and third later considering how she already said she doesn’t like children and struggles being a mom. I can’t believe Jackson did that to her.
I’ve never forgiven Jackson after he lied about his vasectomy. He defenitely did it because he still wanted more children, and didn’t seem to care at all about Sookie’s feelings about being pregnant, giving birth and how it would affect her career. She leaving everything to Jackson and doing her own thing for most of the revival season was the right choice for her.
Your babies are adorable! Apparently the reason they wrote the storyline with the third baby was because Melissa McCarthy was actually pregnant. But they could've had a much better storyline. Maybe they sit down and talk about reversing the vasectomy? Having him lie about it was just so icky.
@lazyotter someone had a funny alternative storyline on reddit about it snd I wish they'd done this instead Jackson thinks you have to go back and check after 4 years not 4 months and there's a funny line about him timing it with the summer Olympics "I was gonna check my swimmers with the Olympic swimmers" Would have been a perfect Gilmore girls quirk
Jacksons emotional reactions are those of a child. I feel like sookie scheduling the vasectomy, albeit wrong, was because she saw it as the only way to not have more children because he always wants to get his way. And that comes true: he never tells her he didn't to to the surgery en get's her pregnant again. That is absolutely horrifying to me.
Yesss! Growing up watching this show honestly taught me SO much about what NOT to do in relationships 😂 The incessant hinting that inevitably leads to resentment and anger around your unmet needs...WHO NEEDS IT lol. It's much more productive to be straight up about what you want. I've learned that the people who really love you will often be willing to give what you need or compromise for their needs also. Great video, as usual!
They were so sweet, but as a comedy relief, the writers made them look so stupid and childlike, there where times i couldn't stand them anymore. I don't like that they seem to get Sookie out of "the market" super quickly with whomever, (make her settle to this child man, very sweet, but couldn't work in real life) so Lorelai could be the only and main love interest for all the introduced male characters; the writers did this to every female they could, as there was not any other single, beautiful, smart and funny women in the whole planet only Lorelai and Rory. also their friendship seems to be one sided, Sookie is only a good and supportive friend in theory, but in practice I don't see her helping much I don't like this butchering of characters :c
YES!!! I think Jackson deliberately lied to get Sookie pregnant, effectively taking her agency from here. Honestly though, as soon as Jackson announced 4 in 4-I was done with him.
Impregnating a woman without her consent should be a criminal. I was sickened by it. Such a violation of someone else’s body. I can’t imagine Sookie ever trusting or respecting him again and not even love can overcome that.
rape by deception is still rape, and it's a damn shame most people refuse to see that. i hated this storyline for that exact reason, but i'm often made to feel overdramatic for stating that. thank you for this video!
And also I think that Sookie and Jackson had a great relationship dating and like a season after but then they just started getting mad at eachother and mad at other a lot more
Sookie and Jackson are both potrayed as silly and quirky and dumb to make Lorelai seems much more together and smart and ”boss lady”, if you get what I mean. Their relationship, although most of the time sweet, seems like something they got into because it was convenient. Like Lorelai made a stupid comment to Sookie about her being alone and then Sookie picked out the first guy that came to mind. Honestly Kirk and Lulu had a better relationship than Sookie and Jackson.
I always thought that the whole point of the show is how a lack of communication messes up people and relationships. There aren’t many relationships in the show with good communication. Only 2 romantic ones that I can think of… Richard and Emily (and even that breaks down the moment he feels adrift after retirement) and Babette and her guy. I can’t remember his name right now. Lorelei and Rory have good communication for large chunks of the show, but when that breaks down the show is almost painful to watch (by design I think). I’m not actually arguing with any of your points. I just think it was all by design.
I feel like the writers left in the seventh season just wanted to nuke anything good in the series. I think it was terrible that Jackson lied about something like this, but it was also kind of weird that Sookie scheduled the procedure for him. I sort of feel like the writers sacrificed for manufactured drama to go against the personalities and all known character developments of many characters, especially in the seventh season. They messed up Lane's life too just to heighten the drama. I think it was all kind of cheap on their part, but I get that in some ways they were written into a corner. I feel like they could have fleshed out more of the characters or let some positive things happen.
i rewatched the dance marathon episode recently and it made me so mad when he yelled at lorelai! like in what world is that appropriate especially in front of so many people! i initially thought sookie and jackson were really cute together but him lying abt the vasectomy was so awful! i am a mom and i know how hard it is on our bodies and mentally. i would never be able to forgive him if i was sookie, he literally got her pregnant without her consent!
Sookie being like "surprise, you're getting a vasectamy" the first time he's holding his daughter always made me sick. I hated them from that moment on.
Dang i found your videos earlier and have been binging so this is perfect timing lol Eta I think they were theoretically good together but they're a great example of how sometimes someone seems perfect for you until you're actually together.
The other thing which drove home how bad their communication is: they had that scene where they started yelling at Davey to do things when he was too young to understand or do them. And their explanation was "he has to learn." So they aren't just bad at communicating. They've actually deluded themselves into believing that bad communication is *good*, and should be taught to their child. I kind of wonder if the writers used it as an analog for spanking, since that would have been more controversial. To make it "funny," they invented this other, probably equally terrible form of communicating with young children.
I would’ve left. Straight up filed for divorce. If my HUSBAND lied to me about something as big as birth control, the possibility of me getting pregnant again when I said I don’t want to, I would FUCKING LEAVE HIM. Sure, she should’ve NOT pushed the vasectomy on him suddenly, but at the end of the day she’s the one who has to go through pregnancy all over again!
I completely agree! I want to like them, and they definitely have cute moments early on, but I've always been bothered by the parts you brought up. I understand him hinting about moving in together, but when she was clearly not understanding what he was trying to ask, he should have just said it. I also always hated his reaction to finding out she was pregnant the first time. The vasectomy was so much worse, though. While I also didn't like that she told him he was getting one, his lying to her about it is soooo much worse. A comment I saw said it was to cover a real life pregnancy but like they could have just said it failed or something - they didn't have to make him so despicable.
Sookie's character telling him he is in fact, getting snipped always made me angry....and yes him not telling her the truth is bad...but he had every right to say NO I am not altering my body because YOU decided I should...classic situation where its a breakdown of respect and communication...how are we this into talking about them like they are real? lolol Oh your theme song, hehe love it!! Oh Yeah!!!
You're downplaying this so much. "Yes, him not telling her is bad BUT" first of all, there should be no "but". Second of all, what he did wasn't just "bad", it was a form of r*pe. What she did here- making an appointment for him without his consent- isn't comparable AT ALL with him getting her pregnant without her consent. Yes, he had every right to say no. And he COULD have said No! But he didn't say No, he just straight up lied. Sookie on the other hand could not say No. What Jackson did wasn't bad, it was despicable and grounds for divorce.
I agree with all this and happy some one mentions it, they both weren't kind and thoughtful to one another needs. She did not check in with him about getting a vasectomy and if he was ok with it, or talk about alternatives. The fact she consented to relations believing the circumstances were one way (vasectomy) and it turning out to be a lie is a violation of not just trust by borderline sa and def manipulation.
And once again, despite having an unplanned pregnancy, abortion is not even discussed as an option despite Sookie explicitly saying she never wanted to be pregnant again. I know it was different time, but even a ''what are you planning to do?'' would give these characters more agency.
I'm doing a rewatch for the first time in years and I have to agree. In the beginning they are both professionals who mutually respect each other. I haven't gotten to them having kids in this rewatch yet (though I have seen the entire series many times), but I feel like as the series went on Jackson became sort of the loveable oaf sitcom dad sort of character, who does really problematic things and Sookie is just meant to accept it as a kind of "Aww shucks" moment. This is ridiculous when you think about it. Imagine in real life if your partner lied to you about getting a vasectomy and you became pregnant? I think most people would consider divorce in a situation like that because it's so serious of a violation and yet in the show, it's not treated as a big deal at all.
Jackson honestly always came off as so myopic and controlling, even as early as season two. Guy honestly was such a schmuck with comparatively rare moments of being a decent partner.
I love this cuz my SO, a guy who has never really watched this show, saw a few episodes here and there as I watched it. He got so invested in their relationship, but hated Jackson in the end.
I'll give Jackson the benefit of the doubt (he doesn't deserve it) and say that he didnt intend to impregnate her when he secretly refused the V, he knew she was still on BC. HOWEVER this is probably the most unforgivable act on the show. Jackson is right up there w Richard and his martial deception.
They were both terrible at communicating. The whole “my lease is up” hint when Sookie isn’t even thinking about them moving in and then getting mad at her about…and then her redecorating her whole house to make it more “manly” for Jackson even though he said over and over that he liked her house the way it was showed how little they actually talk and listen to each other. Let’s not even dive into the whole “cheating” thing. An old friend asked her out and she shot him down but she has a panic attack about how much of a “whore,” she is. You think it’s all silly and funny for her to feel that way and then you watch Jackson essentially have a meltdown about her “cheating” without allowing her to explain.
I feel like if Sookie was honest with Jackson after the second kid, he would have been more open to getting the vasectomy. Instead of just like, yay we had a baby, now immediately go get a vasectomy. I thought that storyline was weird. The fact that Jackson also didn't tell Sookie got a vasectomy was messed up. I don't know if I could stay with my partner after something like that. If I had a partner.
Firstly, yeay thank you for doing a video on sookie and jackson! Also did you remember their talk about a move in? It was so weird, he commented "my landlord asked if i should pay the rent" and then sookie, pragmatically answers with "well, yes, you love the place, what a silly question". jackson replied "but its a baaaacheloooors pad do you think i should move in in my baaaaaaaaachleoooors pad?". and THEN he was mad because she didn't figure out on her own that he wanted to move in with her! A normal, mature conversation would be "hey, i'm more at your place than i am in mine. what do you think, do you want to move in together?". their banter was cute when they weren't together, but as a couple you need to figure out how to work on conflicts together and they seemed to be against each other every time we see them on screen. he pulls stuff like this all the time, when he is mad that sookie can't read his thoughts. maybe its a critism to men who think figuring them out is their wifes(/moms) job? Though i actually enjoyed the dialogue with rory, because he was right calling her out on only thinking of herself and her mom and not the adult who was most important to lorelai. i don't think he wanted her to get pregnant, he just didn't want to agree with sookie (as always) and then it was just conveniant for him. like most white cis het males he didn't think his actions had consequences.
Although I totally agree that lying about the vasectomy was a really shitty move, forcing your husband to do a vasectomy is also a very shitty move, so I guess they both tasted their own medicine.
She did not force him, obviously. He did not went through with it, so she could not have forced him. She did not communicate her needs well, it was a really stupid move to do it like she did, but you know, that's just how he communicated with her as well. Still, lying about the vasectomy is so endlessly much worse, because in the end, a child was conceived that was absolutely not wanted by one of its parents. How does that compare to a vasectomy appointment that he didn't went through with???
I hate Jackson as a figure so, so much. It made me so angry how Sookie stayed with him after he practically lied and manipulated her into bearing a third child against her own stated wishes. I think this would be one of the exeptionally rare situations were I personally would resort to violence against another person, because to me, this is such a gigornomous intrusion on another persons body. But, alas. Star's Hollow is filled with mothers who I think would've loved a little bit more personal freedom, and a little less children.
So the vasectomy thing, characterwise, both bad, her saying he was getting one and him not telling her he didn't get one. BUT in all fairness, this 3rd pregnancy was to cover up Melissa's real life one I think, so the writers had to make up this bad story plot for them.
The problem with many Gilmore Girls characters is communication. Like Sookie telling Jackson she doesn't want anymore kids and doesn't want to take any more risks so she would like it if he got a vasectomy would've been great. But no she doesn't and schedules it in behind his back, without his knowledge. Then him not getting it instead of just saying that he doesn't want a vasectomy is also just so weird. Then when she gets pregnant, it could've all been avoided if they would've just communicated - the both of them. I do think what Jackson did was (I mean, obviously) way worse, because I mean she becomes pregnant because of his inability to communicate, but I do think you shouldn't overlook her actions, what she did was also shitty and selfish at best.
i want to argue that sookie didn’t take jackson’s choice away it’s not like she dragged him to do it she scheduled an appointment she didn’t make him do anything but let’s say she attempted to take his choice away which is wrong to a certain degree he still did whatever he wanted without even telling her, sookie told him what she wanted him to do.
I feel like I can only excuse the terrible third pregnancy storyline because Melissa McCarthy in real life got pregnant and they had to come up with something to explain why she was suddenly pregnant. I do not think Jackson got her pregnant on purpose because I truly feel like he was happy with two children already. Remember when Lorelai and Luke have dinner with Sookie and Jackson and they’re having so much trouble already raising two kids as is. Prior to Season 7, I tdo believe that Jackson had the vasectomy as ASP intended. according to Jackson he thought she was on the pill and she thought he had the procedure done. Which means they had been having unprotected sex for over a year. Spring/Summer 2005 to Winter 2006. Which means they would’ve/could’ve gotten pregnant earlier. I think a much better plot line and story would’ve been Jackson’s procedure not being entirely effective. There are cases where a pregnancy can occur after a vasectomy. But clearly the Season 7 writers were in over their head and thought a quirky but yet another clumsy mistake on Jackson’s part would be “funnier” when it really isn’t. Canon-wise, Jackson and Sookie have extremely bad communication problems. I think they were fine together because they have energies that match in terms of emotional chaos. They have good moments like Jackson sleeping with the zucchini to be perfect for the soup for the Dragonfly’s opening. I truly think that they were gonna have miscommunication immediately because of how they began. Why are Sookie and Jackson attracted to each other when they were constantly at each other’s throats when he dropped off produce? It’s supposed to be drama for the sake of humor. Thankfully Sookie and Jackson’s last issue on the show is discussing why she’s so angry at him and they at least begin to talk about it. I can only hope that’s the start of them moving forward.
I feel like a lot of their relationship was meant for comedic relief because they’re both pretty goofy and the arguments they got in were meant to be taken lightly, but I hate how glossed over Jackson lying about the vasectomy was
I know I'm late lol (only finished GG for the first time a few days ago), but iirc Melissa Mccarthy was actually pregnant around the time of baby no.3 so they more or less had to include a third child, even though it didn't fit with Sookie and Jackson's story. I don't get why they had to go down the "he lied about the vastectomy" route because I'm sure we all ended up hating Jackson for that, but the writers probaly had no clue how else to go about it. Still a bad move tho. Just my thoughts here, loved the video! Totally agree.
They should have talked about the vasectomy situation and also Sookie should've shared her discomfort around pregnancy but I'm on her side on this one... You can reverse a vasectomy at a later time. But they should have had the conversation... I would understand being scared to have surgery right then and there but he should have at least slept on it and considering his wife's feelings. Pregnancy is life/death.
I’m pretty sure ASP added the third kid because Melissa McCarthy herself got pregnant at the time. She decided to write in Jackson lying about the vasectomy to make the pregnancy make sense, and this is another case where she thought we’d forgive a beloved character for doing something SO bad (like Rory sleeping with Dean) but she was wrong.
Jackson was terrible for never telling sookie he didn’t get a vasectomy but sookie is just as bad for springing it on him like that! What sookie did is just as shitty of a thing to do as what Jackson did. I don’t know why fans don’t seem to realize this?
@@spencerallegra I wouldn’t say just as shitty, he after all was able to refuse his vasectomy and they can be reversed anyways. He had sex with her without protection knowing he could get her pregnant, which is actually a form of assault. He also waited until she couldn’t have an abortion. She just had to deal with it and the only winner was Jackson who got the kid he wanted.
I feel like everyone in Gilmore girls acts like the other people are mind readers. Minimal communication and too much asking for forgiveness over permission
I feel the same way about Sookie and Jackson as I do about Pam and Jim in the office. Both couples struggle in what I call plot driven, inability to talk. I personally like watching shows where the characters are not perfect people, so while i don’t agree with Jackson or sookie when it came to how they handled a lot of things. I still think they were a great couple. I’ve been married 6 years and i think we are learning and growing still and sometimes I’m in the wrong and sometimes he is and a lot of times we both are. But that’s what makes these shows so real to me.
I agree with all these points! Their relationship is not one to look up to. Lying about the vasectomy is pretty unforgivable. But, it would be a boring show if everyone was good at communicating and everything went well all the time, so I enjoy the toxic bits 😅
Sookie was great at first but her relationship with Jackson sucked. It was annoying the way they argued and how easily they got offended about literally anything.
They were both on the wrong. You cannot force someone (even if they are your husband!) to get a vasectomy. Sookie forced him to go with the nurse. Therefore, I can't blame him for not getting it, he didn't want to do it in the first place. Nevertheless, this doesn't give him a pass for lying to her about it. A couple should be honest and upfront with everything that revolves around their sexual life. Especially if the consequence of their actions is a child.
I've never really liked Jackson, it started for me with the pettiness at the basket bid thing. After all the effort she put in making the basket and him getting mad she didn't understand his hint. Be more obvious with your hint or just communicate! I really started to dislike him when he yelled at Lorelai for the 4 in 4 years. Women talk to each other get a grip. If he talks to Lorelai like that in public, how does he talk to Sookie behind closed doors? The final nail in the coffin for me is when Sookie is on bed rest and Luke is covering. Both Sookie and Jackson are terrible in the episode. Sookie should have found a replacement and stepped back and Jackson shouldn't speak to Luke like that. Luke is doing them both a favour and they act like total assholes to him. If I were him I'd have told them both to do one and lose my number.
Oh goodness, I'm going to admit something, I've never seen season 7 of Gilmore Girls in it's entirety. I've only seen the first and last episodes of season 7. I didn't like where it was going and by that point it didn't feel like Gilmore Girls to me anymore. I'm glad I never did because what the writers did to Sookie and Jackson is awful.
I just don't understand why he would assume she would remain on the pill when she thought he was medically sterile. Sure, a lot of women use birth control for other reasons, but just as many if not more women either aren't on birth control because of side effects or don't like being on birth control because of the side effects. Personally, the side effects weren't worth it for me. Of course she wasn't worried about the pill if she thought Jackson was shootin blanks.
i love your videos! i have been absolutely bingeing them (not sure if i spelled that right haha). i never noticed this honestly, and i think it’s gross. i’m pretty sure that there are several svu episodes about a topic similar to this. not that this is necessarily like those or that svu is the perfect example, but it goes to show that this behavior is absolutely out of line!
The only reason they had to make it seem like he didn't get the vasectomy is because Melissa Mcarthy got pregnant in real life. I love Jackson and Sookie!
During one of my rewatches....medically prescribed by my doctor If you do merch please put this on your merch I want this on a shirt (trying not to get bots)
i loved them at first but jackson was too much at one point like when he didnt bet on her $800 basket out of pettiness and when he deep fried the turkey knowing good & well that sookie is a professional chef AND ESPECIALLY the vasectomy
I think he got her pregnant. On purpose. However she shouldn't schedule a vasectomy for him either. They aren't transparent and underhanded. They make a lousy couple
I think it’s unfair to judge Jackson based on that last pregnancy. That pregnancy was written in because McCarthy was actually pregnant. So if Jackson had a vasectomy the only option would be Sookie cheated. But that would destroy the marriage so Jackson had to just not get the vasectomy. If McCarthy hadn’t gotten pregnant in real life, this never would’ve happened therefore I choose to ignore the vasectomy issue. Now removing that, I love Sookie and Jackson. I love Sookie but she’s insane. And Jackson being Jackson doesn’t stifle that. And Sookie understand and accepts much of Jackson’s oddities as well. I mean, she knew it was making Jackson happy to deep fry the turkey so even if it was eating her up inside, she just let it happen. Let Jackson have his fun. And Jackson knew Sookie wouldn’t rest wondering about Luke’s cooking in the Inn so he takes her over there because goddamit if Sookie wants to try the food she’s trying the food and he’ll make it happen. They’re silly and they’re cute and they love all the hard to accept aspects of each other and support each other endlessly.
i liked jakson all the way until the vasectomy. i was literally shoked that he did that however I also think that suki shouldna have got him into a vasectomy appointment without consulting him first. so it's all a "who's fault" debate, and I personally hate this typpa debates, cause it's probably nobody's fault, it's just how it meant to be.
I’ve been rewatching and I hate Jackson he’s a complete man child and honestly Sookie is cool in the first couple seasons after that she becomes selfish and irritating
You know at first I wanted to defend their relationship pre-revival, I thought “noooo way, they were adorable in the main show!” and then you brought up the SA. Because yes it is SA to lie about birth control, which Jackson did. So yeah, no defending that. I will say I don’t mind his reaction to her brining up moving in or being pregnant. I think in universe it makes sense that her saying “hey let’s move in” may have caused a moment of panic, but followed up by reflection that made him realize he was all in. But also, the trope of “are they going to break up, then suddenly they’re engaged!” is such a Hollywood favorite. As far as him panicking about the pregnancy, uhm relatable…
Idk I’m a little unpopular here. Jackson is sassy and I kinda like that. Sookie is clumsy, very obsessive compulsive, and a tad bit explosive. Jackson is explosive too but not in a violent threatening way. He’s not afraid to loudly voice his opinion to Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Taylor, Chris, Sookie, anybody. Jackson wasn’t broody, moody, elusive. I thought their arguments were cute and a lot of times they were both being thoughtful in their own way. Jackson bein mad that Rory didn’t consult Sookie, Jackson insisting on making Sookie a meal, Sookie insisting on redecorating her home for Jackson, Jackson panicking and wanting to make everything safe and right for their first child. They’re chaotic and even awful sometimes but that’s…life. And I love the episode where Jackson helps Sookie see that she hadn’t forgiven him. A lot of guys do something wrong and act like they don’t know why their partner is upset. Jackson was extremely imperfect but wasn’t a malicious person. At the core he really loved Sookie and it shows in the way he treated her overall.
Only one comment about the he didn't get the vasectomy thing It wasn't intended its because Melissa was pregnant and they chose to write it in that way (bad writers no gruel for you!)
communication is a HUGE issue in almost all gilmore girls relationships but esp sookie and jacksons to me bc they never really 'talk it out'. jackson dotes on sookie as if shes a child a LOT of the time. dont get me wrong, its good to care for your wife, but hes very demeaning and belittling
The writers really sabotaged their own show by the end tbh. Lane, lorelai, Rory and sookie all had sorta depressing endings
I don't think anyone got a decent ending tbh
@@radhiadeedou8286 did you watch the rival??

Nothing wrong with Jackson wanting to deep fry the turkey. Sookie needs to lighten up

She had such a beautiful relationship with food too. It was almost an art form to her
What we're your issues?
Not to mention she always looked beautiful and never the frumpy best friend that tenfs to happen i those roles. I love her
tbh even if they never fat shamed sookie they always did to other fat characters or made jokes about it
I really enjoyed Sookie and Jackson's love story.
Not just that he held off on telling her until she was too far pregnant to abort from what I remember?
@@amywonderland9297 yeah, that too! He’s such an AH, I would never have forgiven my partner in her situation.
If i found out my husband lied about getting the vasectomy, game over. I can’t believe that issue as glossed over
*was
Your babies are adorable!
Apparently the reason they wrote the storyline with the third baby was because Melissa McCarthy was actually pregnant. But they could've had a much better storyline. Maybe they sit down and talk about reversing the vasectomy? Having him lie about it was just so icky.
Or even just have them realize the vasectomy didn't work. That would've been so much better.
Thank you! And yea I agree
@lazyotter someone had a funny alternative storyline on reddit about it snd I wish they'd done this instead
Jackson thinks you have to go back and check after 4 years not 4 months and there's a funny line about him timing it with the summer Olympics "I was gonna check my swimmers with the Olympic swimmers"
Would have been a perfect Gilmore girls quirk
@@carlyedwards1422 😂😂😂 Love it! That would've been perfect!
@@user74027nh yeah … it would been a teaching moment … and just better for the couple that we loved
I don't like that they seem to get Sookie out of "the market" super quickly with whomever, (make her settle to this child man, very sweet, but couldn't work in real life) so Lorelai could be the only and main love interest for all the introduced male characters; the writers did this to every female they could, as there was not any other single, beautiful, smart and funny women in the whole planet only Lorelai and Rory. also their friendship seems to be one sided, Sookie is only a good and supportive friend in theory, but in practice I don't see her helping much
I don't like this butchering of characters :c
Very well said.
I can’t imagine Sookie ever trusting or respecting him again and not even love can overcome that.
they deserved so much better they were my favorite couple but it slowly deteriorated
rape by deception is still rape, and it's a damn shame most people refuse to see that. i hated this storyline for that exact reason, but i'm often made to feel overdramatic for stating that. thank you for this video!
THIS!!! OMG
Morie!
People rushing into getting married, before even trying to live together seems to be a common theme in this show lol
the fact that you uploaded this while i’m watching the festival of living art (sookie’s birth episode)
I never really liked Jackson and I think Sookie deserves way better. He super immature and even from the start I hated him.
I never saw their relationship as cute-even when they were flirting it seemed like all they did was argue.
stopped listening and just in awe of jackson's snowflake sweater. what an amazing relic.
Sookie being like "surprise, you're getting a vasectamy" the first time he's holding his daughter always made me sick. I hated them from that moment on.
Dang i found your videos earlier and have been binging so this is perfect timing lol
Eta I think they were theoretically good together but they're a great example of how sometimes someone seems perfect for you until you're actually together.
They're a great example of how, even if you're great for each other, relationships still require communication skills and compromise!
“As a dog mom/ mother of none” girl you crack me up.
@@DwynTwo umm, why are we talking about them as if they are real lol
I think Jackson is pretty immature. :/
but forcing a grown man to have a vasectomy isn't?
@@mewcery no it definitely is haha
Love your theme song! Also, your videos.
💗💗💗 ty
I feel like if Sookie was honest with Jackson after the second kid, he would have been more open to getting the vasectomy. Instead of just like, yay we had a baby, now immediately go get a vasectomy. I thought that storyline was weird.
The fact that Jackson also didn't tell Sookie got a vasectomy was messed up. I don't know if I could stay with my partner after something like that. If I had a partner.
Having such a shitty week at work. So glad u uploaded. Love ur videos
Tysm ❤
She didn't force him. He could have said no, but he chose to lie.
He. Impregnated her. Without. Her. Consent. How can you even compare that?
I really like the theme song you made! It's actually really catchy and nice to hear unlike some other TH-camrs intros
i want to argue that sookie didn’t take jackson’s choice away it’s not like she dragged him to do it she scheduled an appointment she didn’t make him do anything but let’s say she attempted to take his choice away which is wrong to a certain degree he still did whatever he wanted without even telling her, sookie told him what she wanted him to do.
Yesss, I hate how the writers just threw Jackson under the bus and made it entirely his fault
The story about her getting pregnant because he lied shocked me. Jackson was trash in my eyes after that. That was gross.
She decided to write in Jackson lying about the vasectomy to make the pregnancy make sense, and this is another case where she thought we’d forgive a beloved character for doing something SO bad (like Rory sleeping with Dean) but she was wrong.
interesting fact their picnic scene was shot at 1am
i want to love them but she deserves so much better he bungled it
I agree, I started as a Skokie and Jackson shipper, but after the pregnancy and four in four thing, my ship began to sink.
Omg I thought the same thing on my last re-watch with the the whole vasectomy thing! That's almost unforgivable imo.
Sookie was great at first but her relationship with Jackson sucked. It was annoying the way they argued and how easily they got offended about literally anything.
Man, everyone keeps visiting these doctors who give out GG prescriptions. I gotta find one!
i love the theme song
I liked Jackson and sookie in the beginning but then yk they had the major down fall
She didn't force him, he agreed. He lied and forced an unwanted pregnancy on her.
Jackson to me is somewhere up there with Owen hunt from greys
Oh goodness, I'm going to admit something, I've never seen season 7 of Gilmore Girls in it's entirety. I've only seen the first and last episodes of season 7. I didn't like where it was going and by that point it didn't feel like Gilmore Girls to me anymore. I'm glad I never did because what the writers did to Sookie and Jackson is awful.
Omg please put a friend's ep up!!
I just finished the Gilmore girls and suddenly I was like what happened to max Medina ???? His character deserved more ???like what happened wtf
what episode did he reveal he didn’t get the vasectomy?? i’m rewatching and must have missed it or something??
I just don't understand why he would assume she would remain on the pill when she thought he was medically sterile. Sure, a lot of women use birth control for other reasons, but just as many if not more women either aren't on birth control because of side effects or don't like being on birth control because of the side effects. Personally, the side effects weren't worth it for me. Of course she wasn't worried about the pill if she thought Jackson was shootin blanks.
Great video
i love your videos! i have been absolutely bingeing them (not sure if i spelled that right haha). i never noticed this honestly, and i think it’s gross. i’m pretty sure that there are several svu episodes about a topic similar to this. not that this is necessarily like those or that svu is the perfect example, but it goes to show that this behavior is absolutely out of line!
Jackson is literally the worst husband ever. I feel so bad for sookie
I lovethem
The only reason they had to make it seem like he didn't get the vasectomy is because Melissa Mcarthy got pregnant in real life. I love Jackson and Sookie!
Kierra plz let me know wut microphone u use. It sounds so good!
It’s from the Blue Yeti Aurora collection
i like your videos !
During one of my rewatches....medically prescribed by my doctor
If you do merch please put this on your merch I want this on a shirt (trying not to get bots)
Weird coincidence (or very targeted) the the ad I got before I watched this video had Melissa McCarthy in it
i loved them at first but jackson was too much at one point like when he didnt bet on her $800 basket out of pettiness and when he deep fried the turkey knowing good & well that sookie is a professional chef AND ESPECIALLY the vasectomy
the vasectomy thing is actually the most disgusting thing ever omg
Do a video on Tristan or Logan
I think he got her pregnant. On purpose. However she shouldn't schedule a vasectomy for him either. They aren't transparent and underhanded. They make a lousy couple
I never liked Jackson, he was aggressive verbally with Spokane too many times, seemed manipulative and was always yelling when upset
Yes!!! I agree
i liked jakson all the way until the vasectomy. i was literally shoked that he did that however I also think that suki shouldna have got him into a vasectomy appointment without consulting him first. so it's all a "who's fault" debate, and I personally hate this typpa debates, cause it's probably nobody's fault, it's just how it meant to be.
Jackson needs to learn to be proper with his wife since she does deserve better than what he gives her.
Jackson was annoying as hell thats my main problem with him and the vasectomy just made me dislike so much more
In my country this could be considered r*pe
Only one comment about the he didn't get the vasectomy thing
It wasn't intended its because Melissa was pregnant and they chose to write it in that way (bad writers no gruel for you!)
communication is a HUGE issue in almost all gilmore girls relationships but esp sookie and jacksons to me bc they never really 'talk it out'. jackson dotes on sookie as if shes a child a LOT of the time. dont get me wrong, its good to care for your wife, but hes very demeaning and belittling
