I want to address some things for those who want to know; This wasn't, and isn't, supposed to be the end. Just as a spoiler for what was supposed to come next so I don't leave anyone suffering for however long; in the next part, the surviving party would have, against the odds, actually gotten a hold of the Proteus Protocol and proceeded to revive Kitten through, as established, questionable means. It would've led to some pretty permanent-looking brainrot on Kitten's part, but, hope would have been rekindled. And in the very next episode after that, he was also meant to finally, finally, finally return to the throneroom... ... But not before a third yugioh special with the Void Dragon. The third part will not be released despite it honestly being quite close to finished. It was meant to be released about a month after the release of this part but my son was born so I kind of had to take a break... But with the situation now, other than needing to focus on starting up new projects and the lack of motivation, it also, in a horrible way, felt kind of apt to end it here. Sorry. This is all going to be on hiatus until we see the zero-tolerance policy altered and until we see ourselves not entirely attached onto a single license as we have been. This was not a smart thing. It never was. Now, EP30 Part 1 and 2 have existed on Patreon (for free) for a few months now, as you can see on the upload date. The reason why I hadn't uploaded them publicly earlier is because the plan was to start experimenting with Part releases on Patreon (again, for free, no paywalling) and then transition into doing it on TH-cam. I know many tend to be averse to change, so I didn't want to start releasing significantly shorter pieces of a full episode all willy-nilly. But now, change has become the norm on this channel so, like, yknow... fuck it. If you want to see what will be worked on next, I will try to be very transparent about my working process and posting regular updated on Patreon (for free). Transparency is important. I don't want this whole stunt to look like a grift for money. I honestly expected everything to drop across the board after this announcement due to sheer disinterest. I had made my peace with that. The fact that the Patreon instead fucking exploded has shocked and straight up frightened me and it has made my need to perform scream like a giant bat. So, I want to do my best with it and I desperately hope people don't look at this and see it as me trying to scam people because fucking GOD NO I want to make internet videos not dedicate myself to a state-of-the-art fraud scheme holy SHIT Nevertheless, a huge thank you to everyone who has stuck with us throughout the years, and I am sorry about this mess, I truly do hate it and we just want to move on from it now.
Yeah, no. If frigging Guilliman can get a Nope-LOL-PSKE save, then Kitten can get one. Whatever Canon can do, Fandom can Overdo. That is The Law. The tone of 40k *exists to be mocked* . That’s what gives 40k value.
Did he just die btw? That black spot on the emperor in the last scene looks like it could be rogals burned body. Previously the emperor requested his psychic suppport blanket to calm down, could he have meant rogal in his centurion armor?
The fact that Kitten, probably knows nearly every single Custodes' names by heart as he has been Captain General for a long time and made his rounds around the imperial palace plenty of times, probably makes every death to him that much more personal.
@@Zaros2400 Oh yeah... That means Big E is completely alone right now, once more. Kitten dead, Fabstodes are out and away, Magnus is away, Dorn is out at least for now, if not dead himself, even the normal human in the chamber is likely out because we could see him being drained I presume? Well shit..... That's depressing as fuck.
The TTS series will always have a special place in my heart as proof that it is possible to tell stories in the Warhammer 40K universe that go beyond "Stoic space marines kill faceless monsters" or "Psyker goes boom"... even if they start out as parody. But the discussion "Is the Grimdark a Story or Setting?" in one of the episodes (I think in one of the Specials?) hits painfully hard in light of this last episode: If it is _story_ then protagonists can affect notable change and improvements. But if it is _Setting_ then characters are ultimately powerless to change anything fundamentally. Oh, _events_ may happen (the Eye of Terror, the Great Rift, another invasion or crusade), but as Magnus argued, you can't destroy Chaos because it's build in, like gravity. (Although I feel protagonists should at least be able to destroy _Chaos gods_ as those are not forces of nature but mere embodiments of a concept and thus have individuality and form. Otherwise what is the point?) I'm not a strategy tabletop Warhammer player, but a pen & paper roleplayer, and though I was once asked if I wanted to play a Warhammer 40K Imperial campaign (I knew the basics of the setting and storyline... Emperor of Man, Horus Heresy, Inquisition, Chaos, Orks etc), I declined for precisely the above-mentioned reasons: I simply didn't see any character concept I felt I wanted to play. Not just because all possible stories felt similar, characters could either be loyalist or dead, no room for rebels. But worse, I didn't see any way a player character could ultimately _change_ anything. You are forced to uphold the Status Quo that is survival, because viable alternatives don't exist. Pathos and splatterpunk combat is all nice and fine, but after a while it gets tiring. But the creators of TTS at least gave me characters I could care about. Even though their fate, to rage against fate but to ultimately fail, broke my heart in the end. Thank you for the story.
Wow, you took the words that I wish could be spoken out of my mouth, but isn't, due to my general lack of intelligence to come up with how to phrase such thoughts in a cohesive manner.
necroposting hard here, but your bit about the Chaos Gods is actually what Magnus was arguing with Big E about way back in episode 19. Magnus correctly asserted that you can't really *kill* the Chaos Gods permanently since they are ultimately just subconcious constructs borne of the Warp -- kind of like how a wave only exists in the context of the ocean, but even if you stop the wave the ocean is still there. And what E-Money was getting at (in a very roundabout and cryptic way) with his talk about "Defeating" them wasn't to kill them for good, since they represent both natural processes and human emotions and both have to exist and such, but he wanted to defeat this ugly incarnation of them and restore the balance of the Warp from its current horrendous state and affect permanent positive change on the place. So oddly enough the Emperor actually agrees with you, I think.
"With this character's death, the thread of prophecy is severed. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed world you have created." Farewell.

Fun little thing I didn’t notice the first few times I watched this: The “space game” the lockwarden is referring to at the beginning is the Stellaris special, and you can see Kitten playing it in the grav tank
That final line is even more chilling when you realize it’s actually the Mechanicus’ machine spirit talking directly to the emperor through that robot.

@@nathanielartosilla9110 What can really speed up this process is simply NOT to buy GW products and unsubscribe from their Warhammer + channel. That they would incur COLOSSAL(!!!!!!!!!) money losses. This is the ONLY way to make them listen to us.
I like to think that the "there can be no victor" line was the the last shattered piece of the void dragon, speaking directly to the emperor, and giving him one last fuck you. In one motion the entire carefully laid plan of one of the most powerful beings in the universe is unraveled and he is given a reminder that no matter how intelligent or powerful, there is no victory here.
Good thing you said "one of", because Szarekh would've had your head for such heresy otherwise. In time, all shall bow to their one true Triarch - even the Manperor himself, naive child that he is. And don't worry about the Void Dragon; Szarekh shall cow him in time. Just as he had done with all C'tan.
I downloaded the playlist for this series before going on a long patrol in the South China Sea. It gave me a lot of laughs and honestly got me invested in WH40K. I just wanted to personally say thanks for your work. Every episode made my difficult days underway easier.
I was also introduced to 40k through novels while on the ship back in 2010, and it has become my passion since. Just wanted to say I share in that with you. I didn't watch this until 2024, and I didn't think the end would feel so bad, but bless these people.
To each of us falls a task, and all the Emperor requires of us Guardsmen is that we stand the line, and we die fighting. It is what we do best: We die standing.
On reflection, Magnus was actually 100% right. Considering the armor-piercing power and strength rating of lances on Custodes bikes, they would have helped against the Kastellan robots. Not taking bikes was, in fact, a mistake.
Considering what a force of oppression those bikes were on the tabletop for all of 9th edition, Kitten could have just taken three or four squads and used them to conquer Mars.
When you realize the hardest the Emperor has ever cried was over the death of the one he always maligned, pestered, belittled, and mocked… yet loved all along, the death of his beloved Captain-General.
Ever his faithful soldier and a loyal caretaker, one who was by the Emperor's side for millenia and never doubted him. Competent, reliable, a father to his men. Not to mention, Emperor was cosmically blue-balled out of Kitten's triumph, and he doesn't even have balls anymore!
Levyafan Indeed. I think Kitten was most perfectly described with this line from Santodes: “You’re like a widowed father who’s trying to do his best!” Kitten probably had no one close to him that he felt he could truly rely on wholeheartedly (Magnus and Rogal Dorn were close, yet never fully trusted), and yet he always gritted his teeth and did what needed to be done. The fact that he could also empathize with and treat others with true respect, while balancing everything he had to do and the sheer weight the Emperor put upon his shoulders, is truly remarkable. Steadfast, upstanding, courteous, generous, wholesome, and resilient. Kitten really was the perfect father figure the Imperium needed
I was amazed at the Captain General's fighting skill and spirit! Fierce and snarky when fighting. That 42nd millenium part was sooooo foreboding and it shows
I may be wrong, but the voice that said "IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE 42ND MILLENNIUM, THERE CAN BE NO VICTOR"… Was that the Void Dragon? Alfabusa did day that they intended to bring him in after all.
My husband and I actually went back all the way to episode 21 to check and... Why? Why did you have to remind us of this?!!! Now my heart actually hurts!
"In the grim darkness of the 42nd Millennium, there can be no victor." I don't know who came up with that line; you, Earndil, whoever, but that might be one of the best lines made this entire series. Hats off to you and the rest of your team for all the memories.
i really like it , it shows how 40k have always been , no matter if you're imperials , chaos , tyranids , necrons ,eldar .....everything will end, a really nihilist approach on the setting that i think games worshop seems to have forgotten
As the light faded from the Captain-General's eyes, his last thoughts had been of delivering victory to the father he had served faithfully and without hesitation for the last 11,000 years. As the red light of mars faded *somewhere else* a young man opened his eyes, and strode into the dorm room of his friend where his life would change in ways he never could have imagined - the day that would set him on the path of becoming a *Hunter*. Goodnight Little Kitten.

Here's something that makes this even more depressing: the abrupt ending allows TTS to exist within the actual canon (which GW doesn't FREAKING deserve) in the worst way possible. Consider: 1. Rogal, sadly, is dead. Giving his life to end the Emperor's rage-fueled warp rift. 2. The Custodes on Mars are slaughtered to a man, with Cawl covering it up. 3. Things with Ynnead go sideways per canon, and when Magnus gets back the Emperor acts like an ABSOLUTE asshole to him, blaming him for points 1 and 2. 4. This combined with Magnus's genuine shock and sorrow at the whole thing lead him to snap at Emps and screw off back to the warp. 5. Things quickly go back to normal for the Imperium as the Emperor ceases to speak and retreats into a deep depression. 6. From there, the canon moves forward in all the ways GW cribbed from TTS. Cadia, Roboute, etc. 7. Emps, as you can imagine, treats Guilliman as a cheap replacement for His original plan, and acts accordingly to him. He's also not in too great of a mood about Cawl becoming too indespensible to the Imperium's war effort to have assassinated but He grudgingly goes along with it. In short, welcome back to the Grimdark ladies and gentlemen. Fortunately if part 3 comes out someday this whole theory goes out the window like GW's chances of me ever buying anything from them again.
Not a fan of too pessimistic theories, but makes pretty much sense, altrough I think Rogal is just pretty damn shocked at the moment and you left out the Inquisition with Fyodoperor

We all talk about kitten, and we should, but lest we forget Dorn’s valiant embrace of the EMPOROR to save terror. It just sucks that kitten and possibly down die and we will not get to see the end, thanks to GW, truly, a shitty day…

Dorn putting that helmet on, already knew it wasn't gonna end well... I forgot it was the Grimdark of the far future and damn man, maybe WE are living in the Grimdark.
GW killed this series but maybe after harry cavil finishes his role in 42nd millenium it would be a comeback for the fanbase I mean while GW does 40k, its fanbase are literally what attracts other people interested by watching their work like ASTARTES, SODAZ, etc If GW didnt just decide to swat raid its fanbase it would be extra revenue due tk the incoming fans interested in the genre
I just realised something. All machine spirits are pieces of Void Dragon! That means when the robot blew itself up to kill Kitten, it was Void Dragon telling Emperor "This time you lose"!
I could care less what you post because you will always have my support. The reason the Pateron exploded is that, unlike GW, you respect us and we respect you. You care about this universe first and foremost and that is why we care for you and the team. Thank you Alfa and gang for all your work.
Yeah, this ending (although I’ve read Alfa’s afterword about it not being the final intended ending), This ending hit me with depression like a thunderbolt. Seeing everything we’ve watched for years crumble into ash through betrayal and treason was more horrifying to see than any 40k or Fantasy story I’ve read
I want to address some things for those who want to know;
This wasn't, and isn't, supposed to be the end.
Just as a spoiler for what was supposed to come next so I don't leave anyone suffering for however long;
in the next part, the surviving party would have, against the odds, actually gotten a hold of the Proteus Protocol and proceeded to revive Kitten through, as established, questionable means.
But with the situation now, other than needing to focus on starting up new projects and the lack of motivation,
it also, in a horrible way, felt kind of apt to end it here.
So, I want to do my best with it and I desperately hope people don't look at this and see it as me trying to scam people because fucking GOD NO I want to make internet videos not dedicate myself to a state-of-the-art fraud scheme holy SHIT
Nevertheless, a huge thank you to everyone who has stuck with us throughout the years, and I am sorry about this mess, I truly do hate it and we just want to move on from it now.

Otherwise what is the point?)
I'm not a strategy tabletop Warhammer player, but a pen & paper roleplayer, and though I was once asked if I wanted to play a Warhammer 40K Imperial campaign (I knew the basics of the setting and storyline...
It's good to see comments so lively after all this time 😢
Sigh.
Wow, you took the words that I wish could be spoken out of my mouth, but isn't, due to my general lack of intelligence to come up with how to phrase such thoughts in a cohesive manner.
Same here.
necroposting hard here, but your bit about the Chaos Gods is actually what Magnus was arguing with Big E about way back in episode 19.

I think Kitten was most perfectly described with this line from Santodes: “You’re like a widowed father who’s trying to do his best!”
Kitten probably had no one close to him that he felt he could truly rely on wholeheartedly (Magnus and Rogal Dorn were close, yet never fully trusted), and yet he always gritted his teeth and did what needed to be done. The fact that he could also empathize with and treat others with true respect, while balancing everything he had to do and the sheer weight the Emperor put upon his shoulders, is truly remarkable.

Today, at this very moment in time, 6:39 AM GMT april 22nd 2022, it has lost nearly half of that value, and is trading at 7,590 GBX. 8 months later, the glut they enjoyed has shrunk by half, but this is not yet enough. For what GW has done, we will not stop until that value slips below its 2016 closing numbers, and keeps falling. A lesson must be learned.

@@KingLich451 as of December 8th, 6:13 pm GMT, their stock value is currently sitting at 7,245 GBX, trending downward, worth noting is a brief crash their stock value experienced in mid September of this year, where their stock price crashed from 7,500 GBX to 1,722 GBX on September 12th and went back to 7,225 on September 13th. I am uncertain what caused this huge drop and spike over a 24 hour period, but following a slow increase in value from mid October through Mid November it has once again began to decrease in value, while the British pound sterling has seen a continued steady increase in value starting in early November of this year.

Here's something that makes this even more depressing: the abrupt ending allows TTS to exist within the actual canon (which GW doesn't FREAKING deserve) in the worst way possible. Consider:
