    Thanks for this tutorial Craig!
    It took me a couple days to find the brackets but everything else was available at my local hardware store!
    It was a pain to get the clamps on the cable without twisting them but I got it on straight and I now have a SAFE ramp door patio, with an Extend-a-room tent added, which provides extra space to chill out and/or play board games with the kids when it's rainy!
    I love it!
    Thanks Bunches!

    Great video. Thanks! Just a note on cable crimping...properly crimped they are many times stronger that cable clamps....and look nicer also. They cannot be adjusted of course so a turn buckle is mighty nice.

    Good idea, never thought of that, this is my first toy hauler, owned a bunch of other trailers, may put my install on my channel too.

    Good idea, may do similar adding turnbuckles for cable stretch, My ramp is a longer powered 2 piece folding ramp and very heavy, so may have a few more challenges.

    I made my own years ago. Took a piece of 11/2 inch square steel tube, cut it at an angle, drilled a hole in it, painted it black just like the bracket. I used a chain, cut to fit, with chain quick link connectors. All this fits in a crown royal bag or I leave it on, using a small bungie to keep it from banging around. Cables are a pain to store.

    Looks nice, my only recommendation is putting some sort of plate on the outside to spread the load on the deck/ramp frame to minimize pull three and flexing.

    • @jbooth4621

      A plate like how so

      Basically a gusset plate on the outside bolts would distribute the load better across the two bolts.

    Found out this morning to make sure your drop down door is made for the I the isolated weight thru out the door and not the distributed weight like driving up a golf cart. The RV engineer said they make 2 different type drop down doors. One for patio use and one for just as a drop down.

    Great video, just want to let you know that the wire clamps are installed wrong side @ 4:50. The live end of the wire ropes goes on the saddle side and the dead end on the bended U. 10-20 % weaker, not a big deal.

    I would suggest flipping your cable clamps around. The “U” bolt is supposed to go on the short leg of the cable to pinch it so it won’t slip.

    Does this design need additional support or is the door rigid enough to support four adults?

    • @1964cht
      @1964cht  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally, I would put support under the door if I had 4 adults. These doors are built strong though. They are made to drive some pretty heavy toys up them.

    • @rcschlieper
      @rcschlieper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Craig Tanguy I guess the only place that I'm concerned about is the gusset where you connect the cable up top is that frame strong enough to support that weight? I have no doubt that the door is strong enough to support the weight and your anchors on the door itself look very stout.

    • @1964cht
      @1964cht  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I would feel better about 4 adults on mine if I used support underneath, especially if people were going to be sitting close to the far end. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

    • @1964cht
      @1964cht  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I couldn't promise that it is, but it seems very strong. I've only had 2 adults on chairs and 2 hyper dogs on it and it seemed very stable. If I had a couple more adults, I would make sure that not all of them go toward the very end. Or at least send my least favorite ones out there to test it.

    • @1964cht

      The cable I used was about 3/16", but I would choose what works for you depending on how much weight you're needing to support. @1964cht  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carol, sorry I didn't see this message sooner. Hopefully by now you've figured it out, however, the length of the cable really depends on where you install the brackets on the ramp. I mounted them first, then measured for my cable length.
