If you look at 4:18, you can see that the rain shield on the 750 V DC Third Rail has fallen off. You would think this is something MTA would want to fix.
Either that or they were using one locomotive for power and the other for traction. They could be pairing the ones that can't provide both, because of mechanical problems.

Nice video! Why was the LIRR Train at 5:40-6:46 using two locomotives instead of one. Was the LIRR short on C3 Cab Cars ?

Amtrak has a yard on Long Island for Penn Station. If you look closely there is also a NJ Transit train in this video that also uses the Amtrak yard
