Thank you for having me, it was an utter blast to be here and be able to share the passion that is Star Citizen. Ever want to chat again, let me know. See you in space guys.
God tier crossover. Kai's breakdown of film is a damn sight better than pretty much every channel I've seen. Check his stuff out, it's refreshing to hear someone explain why certain shots happen in real time as opposed to clearly edited diatribes that accentuate film snobbery. ....And tomato has the voice.
I'm really shocked that there was no mention of Chris Roberts being a film maker... all the way back to Wing Commander. He always wants things to present with his cinematic eye. Also, no mention that the reason it's been so well funded is the very reason Kai was hesitant about it... The majority of us are much older than the average gamer age, and we pledge for ships because we don't have time to grind.
I pledged to support this project in the first place to show the sentiment "nobody wants a space game" a middle finger. Totally unclear how much time I will have for grinding in ten years when I am in pension. XD
@@jonahhekmatyar ? I was talking about Kai probably would find that more interesting than the game and it wasn't brought up in the discussion. Plus the prologue is over an hour and mostly cinematics.
I love this guy so much, and the fact that he has the curiosity to be on this podcast says a lot. Probably the best episode of this I've watched in a while
Well isn't this just neat as hell. Came across Kai's videos a few months back and wouldn't have had THIS on the bingo card then but so glad to see it filled in!!! ---- Hmm, the biggest point and takeaway for the StarEngine trailer should be that it's a tech demo through and through. Simple in-engine demonstration of the distance, travel, contrast between locations, as well as the tech behind and in-between it all. After seeing StarEngine it'll become clearer what the cinematic team and the overall development team for Squadron 42 have done with those tools, we now see how rubber hits the pavement.
What a treat to get a podcast with Kai. I discovered him from the SQ42 react and been a fan, looking forward to seeing him check out the star engine video and potentially more. Thanks for taking the effort of reaching out to rising creators in the scene or other content creators who discover the game. It's always interesting and you do a good job of hosting, not getting to excited and letting the guest form their own opinions and speak their mind.
It's wonderful to hear the perspectives of people with such backgrounds. Probably a huge factor for why Morphologis' Architect Reviews are so interesting.
Awesome work! Came across Kai’s videos through the algorithm. Quite nostalgic rewatching all those commercials. Really nice to see how impressed Kai is with our space game.
57:36 You could have explained that every game package comes with a ship with a relatively short claim timer, so even if you're waiting hours for your Polaris, you can have your 300 or Aurora and be back in action within minutes.
5 star podcast! Kai is very entertaining to watch and offers a fresh perspective that spices things up from the usual fare. Hope he features again at some point! I've watched his other SC reacts and thoroughly enjoyed those as well, and honestly it'd be phenomenal to see him work on a ship commercial. Hope someone at CIG reaches out and helps make it happen!
What an amazing interview, thanks Tomato and Kai for doing this for us. I thoroughly enjoyed Kai's Star Citizen videos and can´t wait for the engine trailer reaction!
29:00 lol, that isn't a conspiracy that is what they are doing It is literally an advertisement to the rest of the gaming industry remember how CIG said long ago we won't have to pay monthly, subscriptions, yatta yatta? Yeah they make that possible by licensing out their game engine.
My son is a writer and author and watches Kai all the time and one day I noticed that he was doing sqn 42 so I sat down and watched and although I saw that demo live at citcon, it was interesting to hear his take on all of it. I've been watching him since
Since SQ42 is going to be so heavily cinematic, I wonder what Kai would recomend CIG put in their advertising language to help customers understand better what to expect from the game?
@45:00 is it a scam conversation, oof that's a much deeper subject indeed, lol. There are people who paid thousands upon thousands of dollars many, many years ago for things that still are nothing more than wishful artwork. All the while they create new things that are functional and you can buy and use today. My take on that is "it is entirely a matter of individual perspective" and someone may still be torn on that subject favoring BOTH answers. I'm disappointed that many things I have paid for (as a $10k+ backer) have not been delivered, have had scope ripped out from underneath (sometimes after hitting live fly, things change which break things - carrack cargo, nerfed damage, and so on), or have been indefinitely postponed. On the other hand.. I can get on and do things that just a couple of years ago I never thought they'd have in the engine or get done to a playable state. So yes, is it a scam... well, that depends on what you bought, when you bought it, and what your own individual expectations are. Star citizen is robust with empty promises and failure to deliver. Meanwhile, there are absolutely jaw dropping things you can do and experience. Just... maybe not the things you'd WANT to be able to do, that you might have paid for years ago, are finished yet, or even on the "next year or two" roadmap.
I mean if you give them $10k in 2013, I could see if someone thinking, "I went $9,955 above and beyond the call of duty, waited long enough to get married, have children, and bury my parents. They've got 1,000 people on staff and hundreds of millions of revenue over all these years, and the elevators are still broken? You've gotta be kidding me." If you were a dev, you might say, "All things are like this, you don't know what you're talking about. We were engineering the XBOX back before Queen Elizabeth was born!" (I'm kidding) But I think we all agree that the project could've been managed better, and the decision to sell ships is contentious.
I appreciate all the people who are constantly playtesting SC, although I wish more understood they are testing an alpha and not playing a game, but I understand the frustrations. That being said I usually drop in to playtest SC 2 or 3 times a year usually just for a couple of weeks. Doing this I gotta say the progress they make each year seems much more than what many who are in the trenches seem to see. Sometimes being too close to something makes it harder to see and a view from further back is more complete.
The problem with still describing it as an alpha and playtest is it applies no accountability or expectations on the developers. It should not be measured as an alpha, but as a project that has been in development more than 12 years and is getting close to have raised a billion dollars, yet is not playable at the moment. The developers don't need free passes, they need to be held accountable to their investors and backers. Free passes and "white knighting" won't lead to improvement. Genuine and fair criticism and expectations and accountability is what is needed at this point, especially given how many timeframes and promises have been badly missed.
I find a lot of current sc fans don’t respect or see the game for what it’s become. I think it’s because they play and expect blockbuster results from an alpha.
I was hoping I would see him on here. He's been a breath of fresh air from an outside perspective

Thanks so much for joining, Kai. It was a great talk!

Probably because we haven't gotten to see much of SQ42 yet. (Outside of the prologue)

Given the cinematography, music, stories, artwork and creativity involved it is amazing that some deny that games are, indeed, art.
Im so happy you got Kai on to talk! Love his reacts to SC/SQ42 videos
It does have at least one punch through shot. The scene where it enters the inside of the Carrack through the window is a punch through shot

Love Kai's content. I would love to see him experiencing the game solo and then with a partner like Space Tomato. Make it happen, please! :)
31:00 it does have punch through shots!
I think that there actually is at least one "punch through" shot where they go in through the window on the reclaimer when it's on fire.
The collab we didn't know we needed.
love his content hopefully he does do some gameplay and streams or records it
The last bit of that conversation with Kai makes me want you and the org to collab with him on a machinima...
super excited about this one. :)

Kai, hurry and drop that Star Engine trailer!

This was great
It does have punch through shots, when they go into the carrack and a few other spots, like on babbage going through the social spaces
Wat a guest!
So the Idris -M is the oldest concept ship that is not in players hands & It is complete but you can't have it because SQ42 lol.
Space Cabbage - CONFIRMED!
