  • In today's video we install the Leitner ACS Forged bed rack to our Jeep Gladiator overland build. I am truly impressed with the versatility, modularity and strength this rack provides considering its weight (or lack there of). Stay tuned for our next video, we install a roof top tent. I am definitely looking at the Leitner ACS for my F150. Your video was excellent. Yes forged version is nice, but at $400 more.... I noticed that your cross bars did not have the "hole" in the t-track to allow you to insert more bolts without disassembly. Other ACS videos, seem to have these extra holes. Why? Sep 2020 version vs. 2021? I have used similar track systems for hold-downs, and having this hole is extremely useful. UPDATE- purchased the Forged ACS. Assembled it to 80% in my living room, due to the -25F weather outside. Your video was good to watch again, but the assembly was actually straightforward. Will mount rack on the F150 as soon as I see +32F. After my own assembly, I am now even more impressed that there are crazy people out there that take the time to make such a GREAT video. Thanks again.

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and the kind. I saw your post/question on the other persons question and the whole he was talking about was for assembly not directly to do with the extrusion and adding fasteners… you won’t regret going with a Leitner rack. If you go to my newest video for the pods and see you at about 14:40 I explain why the need for a hole in the extrusion is not necessary.. leitner utilizes extrusion track locknuts… They are a genius design. I also do my one year review in that video so it might make your mind up about Leitner in general, but I recommend spending the extra $400 for the forged

    Great video I have been trying to figure out which one to buy myself. Good information also, you should add the ZRoads rack to the spreadsheet. It is comparable in weight capacity 1500 lbs. static load capacity 800 lbs. on-road load capacity 400 lbs. off-road load capacity and weighs only 125. The lightner is lighter but they have a huge lead time too so i am still on the fence. I had been thinking of going with the fab fours but have decided it's too heavy and doesn't handle near the weight either. Thanks for the great video.

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Zroads rack is fantastic… It was not available at the time that I did the research and video, but I do like the rear hinge lift gate by the tailgate option… 125 pounds is not a bad footprint either… I will say I am at almost a year, and 15,000 miles in with about 5000 miles of travel having a rooftop tent on top, and 3000 of those mile being associated with overlanding trips… It looks just the same as the day I put it together… The fasteners remain tight, the system is quiet… And ultimately there is not one ounce of rust.. I live in Southeast Texas about 30 miles from the coast… Rust is a big issue here…

      You bet! I used the fasteners that came with the kit. As far as extra TRAKLOK fasteners, they are costly, but all accessories come with them. I got a dozen extras for here and there’s if I needed them. Maybe other cubicle extrusion tslot fasteners will work too?

    I like the ability to slide that rear crossbar forward.
    One big con (at least it seems) is that you aren't able to haul 4x8 sheets with the two pieces of wood and tailgate half up due to the extra rear supports. Can you confirm that this is the case?

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a very good point. I just went out to check… it will not allow for a 4x8 sheet to go across with the tailgate at the load angle. I do you agree this is a con, but at the same time the rack is more than sufficient for carrying 4 x 8 sheets of plywood if properly strapped. The big con the would be the height. In 20yrs of driving I can count on maybe one hand how many times I’ve carried plywood in the bed of my truck, so hopefully it won’t be an issue for me the future. If it occurs that I really needed it off, it’s eight bolts and probably 15-20mins to freedom. Good question🤘🏼.

    • @joecardenas74
      @joecardenas74 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GatorOverland Another option would be just to stand the 4x8 sheets inside bed, by sliding the load bar forward or use the sliding load bar to lock in the load of 4x8 sheets

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does anyone know if you can still haul flat sheets of plywood with the ACS brackets installed?

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In my gladiator you can get 2 sheets or so depending on thickness. For loading more either move the rear load bar forward and stand the sheets vertically, or you use the load bars on top. You would need to bundle around the sheets with ratchet straps lengthwise and widthwise before securing them to the rack. I’ve hauled sheet rock and 2x6’s this way. The system is capable of 1500lbs.

    I've been searching for a solid rack system for my truck for several months now, I have a 1994 ford ranger extended cab stepside. Naturally stepsides are a pain to locate aftermarket equipment for due to the narrow beds at 44", do you think this system would work with my current RIG for overland use? I work for the USFS as a wildland firefighter/faller so spending 8 months of my year in the mountains I'd like to spend those months in comfort with a setup that compliments my work load.

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to reach out to them… There may be a model that is similar, or near the dynamics and dimensions of your current vehicle… It’s a lot of investment for something to partially fit. Reach out to Maddie at leitner and tell her John from gator overland sent you..

    • @GatorOverland
      @GatorOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree! I have a few tarp sketch ideas drawn up but haven’t had time to put it into motion. Leitner is working on a cover that works with it as well.. most of my storage is weather proof, dust is my main issue. But the simple solution for now is a few blast of the air compressor solves most of the problem. 🤘🏼

    • @bigdmc6459
      @bigdmc6459 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GatorOverland my concern is more water related as I deliver parts to customers that can’t get wet. As I use my truck for work and play I need a good solution for both. We might be in the same path. Mine would incorporate button snaps that work with the extrusion. And probably look a lot like the soft topper by the end of it.. the sides would roll
