its funny bc chandler was a smoker (former but he relapse often and who knows how he was when joey first moved in, so he hates smokers but he was willing to put it aside for chandler sure he bugged him to quit but thats how important the friendship was
***Rachel reading roommate ads to Phoebe*** RACHEL: They're posted by a bunch of freaks. Look at this one. 'Wanted: female roommate, non-smoker, non-ugly.' ***studio audience laugh, Cody laugh, Nick awkward pause, looking confused*** NICK: (After a beat) Wait. Isn't that Joey's place?' Congrats, Nick. You're officially the Joey character now, no question.
I don’t know why people are saying that you aren’t laughing enough at Phoebe, every Friend in the show is funny. That does not mean everyone will find every friend as funny. It’s obvious Phoebe’s comedy doesn’t land as much as other characters, they can’t help what they don’t think is that funny. They are still laughing at a good amount of Phoebe’s jokes, just not laughing as much as some of you want.
@victormatamala2659 Honestly, that's typical for many longtime Friends fans. Hence, the endless arguments over the decades. Phoebe, Ross, & Rachel have many haters. But these reactors have yet to be that consistent. There's a channel called "Dylan Is In Trouble" who made a 3+ hour video about the things he loves about the show, and he purposefully didn't talk much about Phoebe b/c he states that if he has nothing good to say then it's better that he doesn't say anything.
In the friends wiki originally they were going to have Gunter and Rachel live together a idea by creators but it was dropped because James Michael Tyler and Jennifer Aniston protest against it.
i had no idea! sometimes i wonder how the show would have been if they had gone some of the ways they planned chandler being gay joey and monica being a couple emily and ross actually staying married etc
That writer's room was The GOAT, I swear. They were an idea-generating, content farm, factory assembly line of creativity and inspired concepts. Even their throw0away ideas or vetoed ones were inspired. First I ever heard of a preposed Rachel-Gunther roommate situation. It is such an instantly interesting proposition that a geyser of potential ideas and scenarios gush like an oil strike of endless possibilities. Think Fez from That 70's Show. Gunther is the Fez of Friends. He is just a baby hair lengths from crossing totally over that full creeper mode line. They definitely could've played round with that concept as a season long B-storyline where Rachel might suspect Gunther is a serial killer and even though she safely moves out without incident, that matter never fully is resolved or disproven. Maybe context clues of how Gunther's secret Rachel devotion slowly starts to fall apart like a house of cards like she finds a life-size Rachel fun-doll, a Rachel Super Fan website, an annual Rachel meet-up of fans called Rachel-Con organized every year by president and founder Gunther, Gunther with a third hidden room Rachel stumbles upon in the apartment that is devoted top to bottom all things Rachel including childhood items previously thought lost by her parents, etc. This could have been it's own spin-off show if Aniston wasn't such an in demand actor at the time and after. I wonder the reasoning why both actors vetoed the idea. Jennifer I can understand or speculate, but James Tyler was a bit player side character on the show who wasn't in every episode week to week. This plotline could have been substantial to him as an actor and his career, giving him more to do and airtime on the #1 rated show in America at this time. So odd and curious. Thanks for the 411!
@@pablosonic892 I have DVDs of the show friends and I can listen to the audio commentary on Some episodes. And I think on one of them it was suggested by Matt LeBlanc to the creators and writers make the character of Joey a little more Dumber. Basically it was his idea
@@pablosonic892 Also in season 2 originally they were going to have a scene where Ross argue with Julie about breaking up they shot the scene but afterwards they felt like it was not funny enough so they deleted it and get rid of it. But they have Ross mention it anyways
I love how this episode and many Friends episodes throughout it's ten year run sometimes embrace and fully commit to turning a situation into a full-blown French farce. Characters running in and out rooms, changing alliances and stances on a dime, having to convince characters to go one direction with a life changing direction; then completely reverse engineer course correct and go in hard the other side of the argument trying to now convince then to do the total opposite is mad-cap comedy lunacy that lends itself effortlessly in the Friends universe. This show and it's 6 lead cast never seize to amaze their range and versatility at the different forms and styles of comedy they can adapt to and immerse themselves into, be completely masters at and crush it like nobodies business, just like the comedy chameleons and absolute bosses they all were, are and be ... m*thafu*ck*r! They are an ensemble cast, but as the show runners have numerously pointed out, they're an ensemble cast that consists of six leads that all could've easily gone on to be the lead of their own spin-off show, yet were refreshingly, unselfishly, committed to the core six foundation they had established here at Friends legacy home office. None of the key six leads ever missed an episode despite active film careers, pregnancies, um, personal off-camera dependency issues cough. They never got too big for the show and never mailed it in. Especially Schwimmer, my god, he never stopped getting better and better all the way through. What a committed performer to his craft. Ross. Is. Legend.
I want to apologize to Cody and Nick because when I was a little kids growing up this is the show that I would get my sense of humor. Also the show friends made me laugh so much and it got me through the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Plus I tend to get protective over this show because this my Comfort show and first sitcom that I ever watched and was really invested in. Is just that I am so used to this type comedy that is light-hearted and fun. I am sorry if I caused any harm to you guys
I was 25 to 35 when this aired in real time. As were all my friends I watched it with then. And we feel like we grew up on this series too. And just as protective of it as well. Friends transcends space and time, age and all concepts of the known and unknown that is the cosmos. Thank god it existed and continues to live on, Friends is forever.
@ It is the sitcom that introduced me to all the cast members including Jennifer Aniston which to this day I still follow her career. And Because I felt like I was part of this group.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with you guys not getting Phoebe’s humor as much. Every characters comedy style is a little different. I think she is the funniest out of the girls but I know plenty of people I have talked about the show with who do not really get Phoebe’s humor. I just don’t see anything wrong with it comedy is subjective.
Now this episode shows that Ross still has feelings for Rachel but when did that happen exactly. Until Phoebe brought it up, he never demonstrated that he had any romantic feelings for her. I wonder if Phoebe constantly teasing him about it made him convince himself it was true. And it's just so weird how Rachel on a dime just fell out of love with him
Honestly I think neither of them even fall out of love for the other. They just convinced themselves for the opposite in different times but the moment they they were alone or in a vulnerable position, their feelings resurfaced again. My opinion is that this is the true why they never got really serious with other people, their feelings were still buried there.
IMO Ross, Chandler and Phoebe are the most funniest, joke and delivery-dense characters. Among the women, Phoebe is definitely the funniest female on the show.Lisa's quirky delivery is comedic brilliance IMO. Her character deserves more laughs from y'all. I think thats a pretty popular opinion too!. Also Gunther's one of the most adorable characters-i don't see tho why'd he have a crush on Rachel when monica n phoebe r right there lol cuz nick said ''dont u dare'';
They just don’t get her comedy as much. They seem to laugh a lot more at Rachel and Monica but they do laugh at Phoebe’s jokes, just seems a lot of them don’t land with them.

Pheobe and Ross couple can either end up as perfect match or an absolute disaster
Why not both? Al & Peggy Bundy were.
