- This is the first in a series documenting the build of a Mazda rotary powered ducted fan light aircraft. This Episode is a general overview, An introduction to the design, tooling and part production process.
The drawings look quite a bit like the RFB ducted fan trainer. I think the name was the FanJet 500? It was made to be a cost-effective military trainer with similar performance to a jet trainer. IIRC It had a Wankel too. Cool idea!
Yea the Fantrainer was used by the German Airforce for intermediate training in the 70s and 80s. It was a pretty good lead in trainer for the alpha jet and had a cockpit layout as close as they could get it. They started with two panels but quickly settled on an Allison 250 turbine. Ours is much smaller but could conceivably do a similar advanced trainer mission.
I try to made WA Fan on base
of bicyckle wheel and PA38 alu thin sheet, circa 1kg...26".
I suggest to examinate WHISPER AERO Fan technology= 35 dB, D=0.6m, 250 kG thrust, only 3000 RPM !
For comparation similar VESY FAN..., 92 dB, 150 kG ,6000 RPM.
WA Fan can be very light & cheap !

I am sure those EDFs are very good but it is the electric aspect of the fan that makes it a non starter for the mission I want to do with this aircraft. Mine is very highly integrated into the design as well.
WHISPER Fan can be drived by aby ENGINE...
Thanks conversion acustic weave into ultra high freqfency(16 kHz) is NOT hearable ! +1/5 better eficiency...+very light fan blades (NO dangare).

One motor +Differential CR gear=30% morę Specific Thrust, NO Gyroscopic momentum,Reaction momentum much lower...
