    People perform differently, some more flexible than others. There are many variety of push ups, the flare out is one. Some folks can do it some can't. If your trying to get shredded like the street dudes in NYC YOU DO THE ENTIRE VARIETY, NOT just the perfect close tucked push up, once you get stronger doing the perfect tucked in push up...eventually antrophy occurs , so the variety becomes necessary to locate other muscles. Back straight, or legs up on something, yes butt can be up for concentration on front of shoulder's... but slow concentrated, but curving down the center of body to ground not keeping core tight... equals fail. Being oncentrated' in the variety sets, your still going to get shredded. But for a contest do perfect close grip form. But any press motion' nice and slow, you will shredd up. As long as it's not hurting you, then do the variety, the position that hurts... it is not for you.

    Doing push ups with your head looking forward is an easy way to cause neck injury. This improper form will cause pain very quickly if you have any preexisting neck injuries or weakness. Always keep your neck and head in line with your spine when doing any kind of exercise or strenuous movement.

    What am I missing here? With my hands straight forward, and tucking my elbows in as far as they can go, I can't begin to do one push up. Not an issue of strength- my elbows don't bend that way, and if I put that much weight on my hands, I sprain my wrists before I begin to do one push up. If I spread my hands out a bit wide, AND flare my elbows out on the bottom(not the start) of the pushup, I can actually do push ups, and I've done three sets of 10-20 every day for months to no adverse effect. Any pointers? This is a very well made video with good demonstrations, I'm just caught here- what is supposed to hurt me has not hurt me ever, what is not supposed to work does, and what is recommended here is impossible for me to do. 100% of my weight goes on my elbows by this method, takes my back and chest completely out of the equation. Open to feedback from commenters or Corey. Thanks a ton.

      I agree. Different pushup positions doesn't necessarily mean bad form. It just means you are targeting different parts of the muscle group. You can even do diamond / close hand position pushups. They are a little harder than normal. But it doesn't make them the only way to do pushups because they are the most difficult. The wide hand position pushups target the shoulders and outer chest area. Same as if you were performing dumbbell flyes. Would you call dumbbell flyes a bad exercise because of the movement your arms make? Now in regards to the body's position I agree. Having a correct plank position is crucial. If you can't perform the exercise with perfect plank form then you need to utilize a much easier position with the knees on the floor.

  • @sakenka8095
    @sakenka8095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Labeling a variation of push up as bad form is wrong. There really isn’t a bad push up as a slight adjustment of your form will target another muscle. So it isn’t a bad form at all as it still train a muscle. It just depend on your target muscles.

    Corey, when I was 16, I'm currently 47, I started doing push ups in order to better my fitness level with a view to go into the military.Eventually I decided to go to college but I had already fell for pushups.I did pushups by the ton, every single day and I loved it.A year later I started going to a local gym and you know what?....when I first hit the bench press it was so easy and it wasn't long before I started adding plates to the bar.Second nature so as to speak!!!!!.
    That's unheard of with younger generations.They lay beneath the bar without even having hit the ground and cranked a single push up!!!!!.....and they wanna grow strong and powerful and pick up girls along the way, LMFAO!!!!!.
    You' d cringe at the amount of people that think themselves experts in pushups when actually they look like puking.
    You'd never stress enough how a perfect pushup should be done...they'll continue doing whatever fits them best!!!!.

    Well what you are showing is pretty much not the right stuff. That's because good form push-up can have the elbows flared out till 30-45 degree. Everyone can't possibly tuck in their elbows like you did because of the muscle mass below their armpit (I don't know the exact name of it, I hope you guys do understand, that part which gets targeted when you do lat pulldowns). The bad form push-up is actually when the elbows are flared to 90 degrees, where all the pressure is actually upon the shoulders & elbows.

      Your hands would be placed vertically not horizontally.

    But have got results with that wrong way of doing pushups

    • @raheb000
      @raheb000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it technically does work your chest a little more. But it doesn't work your triceps and shoulders as much, as well as being prone to injury.

      It's not the 'wrong way' it targets your chest more than keeping your arms in.
      This guys is like a 12 year old guru, lol.
