ॐ भूर्भुवः स्व:
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो
देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
हिन्दी में भावार्थ:
उस प्राणस्वरूप, दुःखनाशक, सुखस्वरूप, श्रेष्ठ, तेजस्वी, पापनाशक, देवस्वरूप परमात्मा को हम अपनी अन्तरात्मा में धारण करें। वह परमात्मा हमारी बुद्धि को सन्मार्ग में प्रेरित करे।
गायत्री महामंत्र वेदों का एक महत्त्वपूर्ण मंत्र है जिसकी महत्ता ॐ के बराबर मानी जाती है। यह यजुर्वेद के मन्त्र 'ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः' और ऋग्वेद के छन्द 3.62.10 के मेल से बना है।इस मंत्र के उच्चारण और इसे समझने से ईश्वर की प्राप्ति होती है। इसे श्री गायत्री देवी के स्त्री रूप में भी पूजा जाता है। गायत्री मन्त्र में चौबीस अक्षर होते हैं, यह 24 अक्षर चौबीस शक्तियों-सिद्धियों के प्रतीक हैं।
इसी कारण ऋषियों ने गायत्री मन्त्र को सभी प्रकार की मनोकामना को पूर्ण करने वाला बताया है।

The Gayatri Mantra is a sacred mantra found in Hinduism. It was first written down in the Rig Veda, which is one of the oldest Vedic texts written around 2500 BCE. It appears again in the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita, where it is explained and promoted as a tool for uniting oneself with The Divine. Furthermore, it is mentioned in many other ancient texts as ‘Gayatri Japah’. A pledge for creating life on Earth, its ultimate presence within us means that it can free us from ignorance and help us reach divinity.
