I've been living in the outskirts of their subdivision for over 20 years & I had witnessed how they developed the place into a very nice subdivision. I've seen three smaller houses with the same concept from Skypod 2.0 on their subdivision, having the same kind of foundation while being built in a steep slope area, the pool, etc. I'm no expert on this kind of field, but just by observing the houses near my place, all of them looks stable and safe. I think it's been more than five years since it was built and the houses are still intact pa naman
Although a nice story but it's one of those types that somehow makes you laugh in mediocrity. But back to the story, if they hired a great structural engineer, then even if the house was build with just 1 column as it's base, I can guarantee that there's still nothing to worry about the structure
Aesthetic. And even may soil test. Kaya lang as environmental wise, it feels wrong to keep digging these cliffs and make a lot of buildings on it. Intact pa ngayon ang soil, pero eventually since parami ng parami ang paghuhukay at dumami rin ang wastewater activities, soil will eventually loosen up and might drastically erode.
Grabe I like it how Engr. Slater Young mentions Civil Engineering terms and explains Structural theory and Soil Mechanics just how I learned it sa college where I graduated from. ❤️ Keep educating everyone that they may understand how structural integrity is important aside from architectural aspect. Godbless you sir. ❤️
That was really informative, retaining wall, structural foundation design, so basically it was excavated and back filled with soil and so. Yes, it will be implemented in the building code's of ph for strength and safety. Awesome videos, keep it up. Make's totally sense to me, for a guy that has a background in building & construction. well done. 😊👍
Hello Engr. Slater, i'm one of ur avid and ur wife and I'm always in awe of ur videos especially the safety tips. I am showing ur videos to some of my colleagues here abroad and they were impressed. The only downside of showing ur videos to them (foreigner) coz they cannot understand some of what u are talking about coz it is "taglish". I hope u will consider my suggestion if u can have subtitle pls so I will not have "nosebleed" in translating? Hehehhe. More power to u and Kryzzie.
Very well said bai slater... I am an engineer... Im very proud a fellow engineer explaining all this things.. just trust an engineer.. we have the best engineers in the world, those projects in dubai and other arab countries, sa pilipinas ginagawa mga plano niyan... Goodluck on your project bai...

Ive watched Fridman podcast with Ivanka Trump as guest...I saw a pic of one of her dream build...remembered ur presententation of almost the same modern design of home structures like inspired rice terraces. I thought of this project in ur vlog...and felt like commenting na hey...a Filipino or Filipinos partly did that already in Cebu...and the rice terraces design, he alraedy have a hardcore miniature model of that...and is it The Monterrazas? Thank you sir Slater for creating content like these which I really find educational and motivational to pursue this kind of career. And I hope that you could make a video on the school side of Civil Engineering, such as what subjects to expect or tips how to stand out as an engineer, etc. Then again, thank you for creating educational content sir Slater! It helps a lot!!
Hi po Sir Slater! Thank you for sharing this! 😊 As an aspiring architect student, this is very informative and easy to understand po since we have been studying introductory information of applying National Building Code on our own proposed designs! 😊 Na-amaze po ako dahil new learning na naman po. God bless po sa inyo!
@7:23 in the video, you can see the neighboring 5-6 storey Mansions that were built around 5 to 15 years ago and were already hit by 2013 strong earthquake and many typhoons..
Ahh lamia mubalik ug skwela nya mag apply ug OJT dira sa imohang kompanya idol! As a newbie engineer, I really find your vlogs informative (to a significant degree!). Been a fan since, and more so now, Engr!

I was really amaze with the outcome of the Skypod2.0😍 But one thing I wanna ask, is the pool safe to swim? Naa bay ali ang pool? Murag lawm jud ug matagak tas ubos.😅
Just like the building of the University of the Cordilleras from Gov Pack road the building looks like a 6 story building but on Harrison road perspective the building is actually 10 story building
Have you also consulted a geologist first before concepting the entire house? Kay i hope it wont be the same to what happened in Ayala Heights at Cebu transcentral hi-way. The design is really super incredible, periodt. But some areas in cebu especially some bukid areas might be heavily faulted so consulting geologists is also a great help.
I think Geodetic Engineer po dapat and of course, sila muna kinonsult bago mag-conceptualize and all. Kahit sino nasa design + build industry alam na yung ganyan.
Scarlet when building a house or building. May ginagawang soil test at the very first para malalaman if ung soil type nung isang lot ay kayang ihandle ung bigat ng building. Pero kung medyo malambot ung lupa. Meron ung tinatawag na board piles (ikaw nalang mag search how board pile works) 😊
All possible test and consultation you can imagine, sure ako done na. This is not a small time project, and for sure his not going to build something that will ruin his name in the future. Before pa nag start sa project pulido ma lahat ang plan. Plus, monterasas is by far one of the most expensive subdivision in cebu so bawal ang sub standard project😁
Hi engr! Nice video! Super informative & inspirational to do state-of-the-art structures. Kudos!!! Anw, i just wanna also add that aside from the National Building Code, which is more on architectural basis, use the National Structural Code also for the structural design. Nonetheless, i love your vid! This would help a lot people who inspires to be engr one day. God bless!
Iba talaga pag engr., yung hindi mo nakikita when it comes to stability of the house, engr can see it thoroughly. Akala ko din deliks ang meron pool sa taas ng bahay.
Sir slater reaction video naman po sa vlog ni jasper sniper para kasing minaliit nya yung mga engr and architech dun sa vlog nya. Kelangan i educate si mr. Jasper sniper. More power sir.
Hello! Thanks for your informative videos. Can we also request a video on the best condo developers in PH and how to know if your condo building is safe structurally :)
Is it possible to install an automatic jet or propellers enough to lift the entire house so when there is a landslide it will automatically detect the danger and activate the lift maneuver so the house will avoid the path of a landslide.
mga taong hindi nanonood ng discovery o how its made talaga wala masyadong knowledge about sa mga ganyang klaseng construction kaya nangangamba sila, basta trust to your experts wag basta kukuha ng contractor lang kung ayaw nyong maging delibyo buhay nyo.
Aside from safety, how about sustainability and environmental impact? How do you consider those factors? I have asked this on your previous video but still left unanswered.
Baguio City is a literally a mountain city, what’s your take on its sustainability and environmental impact? No say about that? Why you always single out small subdivision projects like this.
Isn't the foundation & its geological makeup the weakest link in cliff buildings, specially when there prolongec heavy rain which may result in landslides?
Any tips/steps in renovating a house? I am planning on renovating my house but I don't have any idea what to do and the steps on starting the renovation.
It looks great, but pag tabi tabi na kayong maraming skypod in an area na parehong itsura, medyo cringe na syang tignan. how do you dispose of pool water?
With the cantilevered design for the swimming pool, the water in the pool may not act as a tuned mass damper. Most tuned mass dampers are aligned at the center of mass of a structure. In fact, the pool may destabilize the building during a strong earthquake event as it is located on the side of the building. If the earthquake wave is perpendicular to the building, the building’s center of gravity will shift at the side towards the cliff face. If there’s an imbalance and if the building is not anchored strong enough to the cliff face, it can fail and topple over the cliff face. Anyways, I hope the building foundations and center of mass is engineered properly to prevent such scenario.
Sir just want to ask for curiosity purposes, all the floating that showed in your tablet is for sale & may i know the location and how much this kind of houses.
Although great taking advantage of its view for the building in Architecture per se, but it's just "meh" in my opinion. I was kinda expecting that great cantilevered structural design since with these design takes up a huge work on land excavation and filling wherein if the structure is on a cliffside, heavy machineries has to be taken there, so in order to do that, you have to basically destroy the cliffside of the area thus destructing the present environment to cater roads and stable area for the heavy machineries to perform which would have an impact on Soil Erosion since what were trying to do in a construction is Soil Preservation, where there's more strength rather than destroying it and then building a new one. Although in a cantilevered structural design, you only need to excavate away from the cliffside thus minimizing destroying the present environment, although the only problem is is that you need to hire a trusted and proven Structural Engineer.
Am I the only one who obviously can’t afford Skypod 2.0 but enjoys seeing Slater talk about it passionately
I can affordi it in 12 years
