Great vocal chain, and love the Whisper effect 😍 the robotic over tuned vibrato is personally not my cup of tea though, but I still appreciate the process , thank you so much for sharing
It’s amazing to hear the mix progress, with a rough lead vocal in the beginning, to a fantastic fluid sound later in the mix, as the vocal is tweaked in many ways. The reverb really helps the vocals sound great.
Absolutely fantastic tips and great plugin choice! I love the SSL Vocal Channel Strip, RVox, Radiator, simple REQ and Abbey Road Plates/Chambers/Echoboy as well as Black Rooster Audio VLA 3A or PSP oldTimer for Parallel compression
Thnx Ali! I am watching this lessons at the studio i work and learn. I bought me some really nice plugins you showed me. They are on sale atm. Really thankfull and i am going to check your work soon. Really interesting story. All the good! Peace From holland :)
I like the way you started with a simple minimalistic lead vocal and grew it into something with a lot of complexity. How were the harmonies created and built? Did he sing all of those different harmonies? Can you Melodyne each vocal line to different harmonic positions? Can you duplicate the lead vocal track and pull it down an octave?
Is there anyway that we can set up a gathering with us producers and engineers that do RnB? And just just have a lock in and hone our skills in with each other? It just feels like we are so far in between.
While this is a great vid for those in this genre, I wish people in the industry would stop calling it R&B. It is absolutely not. In zero ways is it R&B. That's like calling new wave 'country'. Zero ways.
I understand your point of course. However, this is how modern R&B, Pop and Hip Hop can sound. For instance Country can be Bro Country which is essentially Nickleback with a country accent, there’s also Country Rap. Neither of which sound anything like Hank Williams
@@Producelikeapro I feel you, Warren, and you are always a gentleman and equipoised about things; thank you. I still feel that Bro Country and Country Rap are closer to Hank Williams than Trap is to R&B, though I know it's the industry standard to call it that. I just wish it wasn't, is all. Let it be its own thing, but too late for that, I guess; the mark is made. I'll just have to think of it like jazz-you can't say, "Do you like jazz?" That's like saying, "Do you like food?"-there are a bazillion different kinds. That perspective will quell my purist soul LOL. Took me a while to chill on smooth jazz being in the same genre as Ellington or Harry Connick, Jr. I'll get there (on the surface).

i find people commenting negatively on the song puzzling, i came for a video about recording and mixing and that´s what i got, in spades :)
For de-esser do you use ‘hard’ setting? I love 2500 for Tom Toms

I’m actually using the soft setting most of the time!

arrange and composition is very boring, sorry to say... 😢
Dont rip off Post Malones sound and poorly, make your own shit.
Ali worked with Post Malone at the very beginning, for a couple of years, don't think there's any ripping off going on here.
