    I tried this on an S shaped loom and trust me, the results are even better. I can knit on more pegs to make sure it 's big enough for me, and best of all, I did not have to decrease, just keep increasing sitches until your desired width and I did a basic bind off. I used an odd numbet of pegs, 81 pegs

      I just watched this wonderful tutorial, but was not really clear on the loose loop fix. Was that necessary on the one you did on the S shaped loom. I just bought one of those looms and haven't used it yet. I want to make this shawl for a home bound friend who would need a larger size. Any tips and suggestions you can give a newbie on making this shawl on the S-shaped loom would be greatly appreciated, Sarah Chan. Also, how many yards of yarn did you use?

    • @sarahchan4807
      @sarahchan4807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Claudia. The loose loops will be there even when you use the S shaped loom, like what Denise said in this video. I just left it as it is! As for how many yards I use, I am sorry I can't answer in terms of yards but I used 2 to 3 balls of Homespun Lionbrand yarn ( which I think is pretty similar to the yarn used in this video)which I bought from Spotlight Craft store. Do select the multicoloured homespun yarn as they are really pretty. If you live in Australia, maybe you can find a Spotlight craft store or if not, this homespun yarn is probably available off Amazon. The one important thing to remember is to always use an odd number of pegs, so you can probably use 81 pegs or more for your friend's shawl so it can wrap her up snugly. As for how to do a basic bind off, I do recommend that you watch how to loom knit bind off on a baby blanket on youtube as it will be useful when you are ready to cast off. Good luck

    I did this in the double e-wrap stitch in a fairly light cotton boucle for a lightweight, summer wrap. It turned out VERY wide and very shallow -- a great triangle scarf for someone with a long neck but not for me. I'm putting a crochet border on it.
    I'm not complaining, just letting people know that you'll get a better shawl triangle with a stitch pattern that has a horizontal emphasis instead of a vertical emphasis.

    I love this pattern! But I didn't care for the loop on the edge and using variegated yarn didn't want to crochet it. I have started taking the last peg before adding on a peg and with the last wrap I twist and put it on again. So when I knit over that peg I am picking up two and knitting over. So far it has eliminated the large loop on the edge. It is leaving it a tiny bit thicker which may work out to help hold it in place. Just an experiment! I am using Shawl in a Ball on 18 inch KB loom.

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pinky, there are looms that are much larger but, in this case, the 80 peg loom isn't any larger than this 41/40 peg loom. The difference is the gauge. Likely, Carmen used a thinner yarn - DK or worsted weight I would guess.
      Peg count isn't everything (although it might sound bigger). Peg distance matters too ;)

    Some mention using afghan loom. Thats fine I guess, but it is smaller gauge and you need to determine how many pegs gives you the width in inches and rows for inch length. Do swatch and Loomahat I believe says do 4×4 swatch gives an inch, but yarn, loom and tension pkay a role to. But, u will have to test or just try. After that followin pattern after figuring out size you want and follow pattern. The loim used here is large like KK and gauge is bigger. I seen comnents on using KAHL so you can read those since simialar gauge if you set up for snall gauge. But that KAHL has a large gauge ability, but not sure if it is same as one in video. Abyone using afghan loom nneds to test yarn for estimate peg count. Why are a lit havibg troubke with size using lg gauge and pattern?

      Yes 👍🏽 - a larger knitting loom with more pegs will give you a larger shawl. This is an easy project to make smaller or bigger. 🌼

    I just made this and the beautiful. I love your tutorials I’ve been using a loom for years but I’ve used the same stitches and never branched out to knew projects your tutorials have helped a lot. I do have one question when I finished one of my side started to roll, I did a crochet along that side and it helped fix it. But is it common for the edges to start rolling?

    • @LoomaHat

      Yes when you use one one stitch. Keep in mind that you can also block the fabric

    I like the way the shawl looks using the double wrap method, but do I double wrap the first and last peg? The edge stitch is looking a little wonky.

    Hello Denise! Thanks for that video, you explained so nice once again.
    I do have one problem tho. My shawl turns out to be really small. It definitely doesnt fit the neck of an adult, might be okay for a child tho. But I am asking myself if I am doing anything wrong :/ I used a Loom with 41 Pegs.
    Would the double e-Wrap increase the size?
    Greetings from Germany :) Looking forward to more videos!

      The base of the loom is what increases width - the stitch will only increase the length

      Honestly? I crochet and I found that bit kinda hard too. I think by the looks of it you crochet through the loop below the loose stitch to pull the loose one down? But I’m honestly not sure

    • @Vonn_Loren
      @Vonn_Loren ปีที่แล้ว

      With a 41 peg loom, honestly the easiest way I can think to make it larger is to knit a second triangle piece and join them together. Maybe a mattress stitch? I tried to figure out a way to do the increases to make it larger but I never could figure it out.

    Denise,I made this little shawl. It is an easy project for one to do. It took me a few days due to interruptions from my children. lol. I have a few questions though. The loom you used how many pegs did it have? The one I just made I feel I would have to add a border to it to make it for an adult. It fits my 5yr old perfect thought :) By chance is there a way to make pieces on the loom and then attached them together to make a bigger one?

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rachel Reed the loom is an 11 inch loom in diameter and has 42 pegs - its the KK replacement loom by CinDwood - the biggest difference is the extra peg to make it an even number for techniques like rib stitches. What loom did you use and to make it longer you can crochet the border. What type of yarn did you use - if it's to thick that can give you a smaller shawl.

    Do you have a pattern to do this in garter stitch? I tried it out with garter and using half hitch increases(like your zippy shawl), but I could tell by the time I got to peg 40 it was going to be waaay too small, so I transferred it to my Martha Stewart loom and used 80 pegs...But it was still too small! Does the figure 8 produce an abnormally large stitch or something?? I would need 160 pegs with the size mine turned out :(

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jnourie - this is the only pattern I have for a triangle shawl. By the way, I don't use the Zippy loom you may have confused me with Isela Phelps

    • @jnourie
      @jnourie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoomaHat.com Oh my gosh, I totally did - sorry about that! Love you both 😀 Any idea why a garter stitch with this method would make it so much smaller? I've never used the figure 8 before and rarely use E wrap, so I'm thinking those stitches just make much larger garments?

  • @patriciabuchanan3463
    @patriciabuchanan3463 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Below you said the finished shawl is 50 x 20 - the one in the video? As soon as you've knitted on ALL the pegs you immediately start decreasing? What purpose is doing the double-wrap thing at the end of the video - is that a diff technique for thinner yarn or does that make a bigger shawl? Thank you!!! Love your videos!

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Patricia - Yes its the one in the video. the size of your loom is what makes the shawl "bigger" - the double e-wrap was just a more lacey option - it has nothing to do with size.

    • @patriciabuchanan3463
      @patriciabuchanan3463 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry another question! My largest round plastic loom is only 40 pegs does that mean it will be smaller? I have several long plastic looms but that would mean going 'around the corners' right? If I use a loom with more pegs does that mean the shawl will be larger OR longer?

    • @LoomaHat
      @LoomaHat  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would prefer the long loom - but "most" newbies only have the 4 round looms - that is why I try to make patterns that accomadate "most people". But if you have the long one use it. And yes, More pegs means larger and longer and vice versa ..... and feel free to ask another question after this one : )

    I made this scarf & the edges are curling under because it is all e-wrap with no Purl. I wonder if ironing will flatten it out? Or if I do a row of crocheting around all of the edges? Should I have purled at the back?

  • @DarleneMilner

    I love how this shawl looks. But I have worked on this one SO many times I can't count! I didn't realize with the first couple tries that you aren't wrapping the whole row and then tossing over the loops, that you are knitting each peg and moving on. Even so, I am finding the same problem. The neck part of this shawl tends to roll. I tried adding a crochet edging or putting the loops back onto a loom and trying a garter or rib on the edges but that didn't work for me either. I frogged three times now. Now I am trying again on the largest of the Leisure Arts loom that you gave such a wonderful review of. (I do love the loom!) But that first (neck) row is rolling again. I am using a soft acrylic off white yarn (Red Heart?) it was donated yarn for our charity. I want to give this shawl to the charity. I think it would be so comfortable for a patient who is able to sit up in bed. I know that wools can be blocked but I can't see that that would work here. Wouldn't the recipient have to block it every time they would wash it? Doesn't seem like a nice gift in that case. So what am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? By the way, I love what you do for all of us so much I am now a patreon! :-)

      I finally finished the multi-frogged shawl. Here's what I had to say on it in my Ravelry notes: www.ravelry.com/projects/Darravels/triangle-shawl Thanks for your help. I would love to try this again with other yarn and using the large oval that made a nice size shawl. The curling is something I'd like to figure out how to fix or avoid on future projects. I know it has something to do with all knit but my using all purl on the first and second peg still curled. Not as much but still. I guess I am still a newbie! This is a challenge for me to learn about.
      Thank you for al your help!

      I'm not sure about the half shawl. I'd suggest that you watch the video all of the way through to find your mistake.
      As to bruises and blisters, relax and breathe. It sounds like you're winding on too tight and fighting with your knitting. Most of us have done that at least once.
      You can always undo the mistake and start over. It's just yarn, and no one will know if you don't say anything. 😊😉
