    I had been following Zager guitars with keen interest for a while, reading through numerous compelling testimonials on their website. Despite my initial apprehension, I decided to take the plunge given their solid return policy. When my new ZAD900 arrived, I was utterly impressed. The craftsmanship, tone, and materials were simply beautiful. I made a minor adjustment to lower the action, and after four hours of playing it alongside my beloved Martin GPCPA1, I was astounded. The Zager not only sounded better but also proved to be easier to play, and this is no exaggeration. Despite the wood being fresh, the tone was already deep and rich, with the promise of improvement over time. I am genuinely impressed, and I'm thrilled that I took the chance. While I'll likely keep my Martin, I've become a Zager enthusiast, and this guitar will now be my primary instrument for both performances and recordings.

    It plays effortlessly and nicely now that I had new strings installed on it. It resembles notes with tones suspended in the air. We appreciate your excellent work, meticulousness, and customer service. I gave my ZAGER 900CE the nickname Miss "Z" because I adore her so much.

    I recently acquired the ZAD900CE, and it has completely transformed my playing experience. The craftsmanship is impeccable, and the sound quality is unparalleled. The solid spruce top ensures a crisp, clear tone, while the rosewood body adds warmth and resonance. The smaller 'OM' size is a delight, offering incredible playability without compromising on sound. The AURA system captures the essence of my playing, making every performance truly exceptional. Zager has created a masterpiece, and I couldn't be happier.

    Thanks for your review Paul. I'm looking to purchase the 50 model that is mahogany. It's such a beautiful looking guitar. I do see on may sites where people are bashing Zager guitars, but I think they are great guitars. If I do get one I'll let you know. Thanks again for your review. I'm 67 and just started learning the guitar now for about 7 months.

      Outstanding. Welcome to the "later in life, I decided to learn a new skill club". The 50 is a great choice. The mahogany is quite striking in look and will mellow with playing and age! Thanks for watching! Good luck.

    I'm writing to let you know how satisfied I am with the Zager 50 series guitar I bought and received today. The guitar is stunning and is exactly what was promised. I adore the sound, and it's very simple to play. I appreciate the effort and labour you put into creating such a fantastic instrument. It performs superior to any guitar I have ever owned. Once again, I appreciate your effort in bringing us these fantastic Zager guitars.

    It's wonderful to hear that the Zager ZAD80 CE reignited your passion for playing the guitar! It's fantastic that, despite having played various well-known brands, you find the ZAD80 CE to be the best in terms of playability. The fact that you consider it a beautiful instrument of heirloom quality and your potential "go-to" guitar speaks volumes about its craftsmanship. Special thanks to Denny and his son for helping make this musical journey possible for you. Enjoy your time making music with your new guitar!

    Please read the "real" in the comments, not the Zager bots. This company is not transparent about where the guitar is built. They fail to tell you that most guitars have a laminate back and sides, not solid wood on a higher end guitar. Also, check out their resale value. It's atrociously bad, so if you don't like it, you'll be taking quite a bath to dump it. Very shady business practices.

    I am absolutely thrilled with my ZAD20E! The playability of this guitar is unmatched. The low action and smooth fretboard make it a joy to play intricate chords and melodies. The sound quality is incredible, with a perfect balance of warmth and clarity. Whether I'm playing acoustically or plugged in, the ZAD20E delivers a rich, full-bodied tone. The built-in electronics are top-notch, allowing me to seamlessly transition from intimate solo performances to rocking out with a band. Zager has truly created a masterpiece with the ZAD20E, and I can't imagine playing anything else.

    My only problem with this guitar is that the endpin jack keeps working its way loose. I've owned it since November 2019 and this is the 4th or 5th time I've had to fix the end pin. Denny Zager Jr. has released a video dealing with how to fix it, which I have followed. You have to remove all the strings, take the endpin out through the soundhole, and reset the inner nut halfway up the threads. The point is: if you know this is a problem, how about redesigning the endpin? I have a Taylor 310CE and a 150E 12-string, and neither has ever had the endpin loosen up. Shouldn't have to deal with this on a $2300 guitar, and it's really too bad something like this has to mar an otherwise great playing experience.

    • @pzguitar
      @pzguitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @deanzawacki1896: Your information is both good and troubling at the same time! It sounds like you either gig a lot (play standing up with a strap attached to the end pin (where you plug in). Perhaps the slight torque on the strap holding the guitar over time causes this. I agree (as an engineer), that if you identify the fix, you should bake that fix into the upfront design or assembly. Especially since the 900 IS a pro-level guitar. Keep me in the loop if you would about any other issues; my email is in the about tab for this channel. I know that Zager has a lifetime guarantee and would fix that issue for you, but then you need the box (or a box), send it back but most of all, be without you guitar for a number of weeks.

    • @deanzawacki1896
      @deanzawacki1896 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the prompt reply, Paul! Yes, I do gig with it a lot, standing up with the strap on. You nailed it! And in all other respects, I love the guitar! When the issue first began happening, I decided not to store the guitar in the case with the strap still attached, thinking maybe this would reduce working the strap nut so much. Now I'm faced with having to tighten the internal nut yet again. A 1/4" dowel rod stuck into the jack makes it easier to access the assembly at the sound hole, reset the nut and get it back into the hole without removing all the strings, but if you're playing out regularly, I guess you just have to resign yourself to doing this fix every few months or so.@@pzguitar

      Wood based musical instruments are unlike modern mechanical devices (like a car for example), the more you use the guitar, the better they get; the more you use your car, the more is wears out. That's why you should practice every day!!
      All those vibrations over time, 'season' the wood. They do get 'warmer' in tone. How has the guitar held up otherwise?
      PS- I just got a (REALLY) good microphone & proper audio interface, so I can bypass the camera's microphone pre-amp. I think I will re-do this play test again; I'll add some finger style.

      @@pzguitar I just checked and I ordered the Zager guitar 4/1/18 so it's now almost 6 years old. It has held up great. I play it or my other guitars daily. I use the Zager when I give lessons and my main Electric is a Rickenbacker 360 that I love as well. I just love the jingle jangle of the Ric. I also use the Zager humidifier with the sponge that I saw on your new guitar. I notice it gets some black spots on it and I don't know if it's mold or what but I just rewet it and put it back i the guitar. My case shows humidity at around 50%. I try and keep the Zager in the case when I'm not playing it to hold it at a more constant humidity level. It's winter here and the humidity in the house is lower than that but with the sponge thing, it works great to keep the humidity up. I was very skeptic about ordering it because i just couldn't find a lot of information on where it's actually made but I talked a lot with Dennis Jr. and with the money back guarantee, I pulled the trigger. I'm not sorry. I am convinced it is as good as the finest Taylor or Gibson. Here's an odd story though. I was traveling to CO from MI and overnighted in Lincoln, NE. In a lot of their videos, they mention that well known players come to their factory and Zager makes custom guitars for them. I called before going to Lincoln and they told me that they don't allow anyone to come to their "place of business". I thought that was strange. I told them I bought the ZAD900CE (you would think they would like to meet me) but they didn't allow me to visit their "factory". That part is a little strange to me but the guitar is the most well built thing I've seen and it plays so nicely. John from MI

      @@littlethislittlethat456 Fantastic story John!!!; 6 years and the guitar has aged great. A RIC360? Cool. Denny Jr. told me to keep the guitar in the case as well. I have (1 in the living room and 1 in the basement) a digital hydrometer/thermometer; the temp inside the case reads a consistent 5-6 degrees low compared to the 2 other devices. I also keep the Zager hydro wet as well. So, I did 3 things, I changed the batteries on the Zager hydro/temp meter (LR44x2), placed a daddario hydro pack into the case--2 under the headstock and 1 in the space of the cutout and 3-placed one of the other hydro/temp meters in the case as well (for comparison). The house humidity (yesterday and today) is %18, but inside the case, read %49. Perfect! (the Zager still reads 6 degrees shy, but I am much more interested in the humidity.
      Interesting thing (at least to me) the Yamaha A1M's sound hole is slightly larger than Zager's. I tried to place the Zager sound hole humid cover in the Yammie but it was not a tight fit. So, I use another set of Dadario humid bags for that guitar in its case.
      Thanks again taking the TIME to fill me in!

      @@pzguitar Absolutely agree with you as well! Martins are good guitars but the price is out of my range . Been playing guitar for over 60 years , played them all,, Martin , Taylor , Yamaha , etc . Guild D-40 was my last guitar and bridge started to separate in back. I’m not thrilled with Taylor’s no bottom end and are way overpriced. My cousin ask if I tried a Zager . Never heard or played one , so I took a chance and ordered the 80 on their summer sale . And for $ 1,300 I was totally sold on Zager guitars . I’m very impressed and happy with what I got for the price and IMO they are just as good in all aspects as Martin , Taylor and others, with top notch customer service. Zagers prefer leaving them off for the reason I mentioned above . I feel the same about pick guards.

      Hey Dave: Interesting news. I contacted Zager and they will send me a tortoise colored pickguard specific for the OM size (shortly- timeframe TBD). Cool beans. Zager supplies the guard but does not apply them--they leave the decision up to the buyer. Personally, I am NOT concerned with a fractional degradation of sound due to the pickguard interfering with the top's vibration profile. If I was THAT concerned, I also would not have purchased a Cut-away. I just like the look of a cutaway and a pickguard.

      Thanks Mick. This next Thursday (Feb 1), I will release an redux video of the play test. Please check it out (a real microphone and audio interface...). For me, I spent a YEAR contemplating the Zager purchase before I took the plunge. I test played some Martins & Taylors (which were fantastic) but I think the Zager is every bit as good at a much more affordable price. I gave away a ZAD20 in December and that guitar shared many of the same design features as on the 900 so no matter what model you choose, I feel you will NOT be sorry.
      The only way to test a Zager is to go to your local BIG guitar store's used department and see if a used one is there (or a friend. If you want to come to NY, you can try mine!) . If you do purchase, use my affiliate link in the description. You will have to compare the woods of the Zagers versus the Road Series Martins (Spruce). The ZAD20's &50's are spruce, the 80's are cedar. The 900 is top grade sitka spruce. It all depends on the sound you hope to get.

      Thanks for the offer to let me try yours but since I live in Southern Oklahoma, that probably won't happen. I had an expensive Martin a few years back and sold it because we needed the money. I bought a cheap Yamaha guitar and worked it over and it played pretty good. But I wore out the frets and it cost more to replace them than the guitar was worth. So I bought a Road Series Martin thinking I could work it over and make it play the way I wanted it to. I am still messing with it and am not completely happy with the way it plays. I have replaced the saddle and adjusted the neck but just can't get it where I want it. At some point if I get frustrated enough, I will sell it and get a Zager. They are beautiful instrument and sound really nice. Thanks for your response.

      IMO, the sustain actually got better when I restrung with the Curt Mangan's 9/42's. These were the original Zager Pillow Touch (coated) standard from manufacture. I just really like the Curt Mangan strings. Sustain is directly related to the top wood and the bracing, but the neck/fingerboard and the string do play a part too.

    So I fixed the endpin using the 1/4" dowel rod stuck in the jack to pull it back through the hole and retighten it. When I plugged in the guitar to test it, I got a nasty hum through the amp. I had screwed up the jack by sticking the dowel in it and had to take it to the music shop for repair. My advice: don't do it!! Try using your guitar cord instead. It's what belongs in the jack, and you should be able to force the jack down to the sound hole to reset the inside nut and then just pull it back out through the hole again. If I had thought of that 10 minutes earlier, I could have saved myself a repair bill.

    • @pzguitar
      @pzguitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The next time I restring, I will take a look at the inside at the jack to see the landscape. I am not fully envisioning the procedure because (in my tiny mind) there should be 2 wires leading from the jack to the electronics. I am foggy on how to tighten a nut that does not interfere with that connection. As they say in Project Management, experience makes you smarter (if you document it). Let Denny know about your latest experience and bill.

    I would like to say that Zager makes the best acoustic guitar in the world. They are the best thing since sliced bread. They are better than pre-war Martins and make Jame's Olsen guitars sound average. The only instrument you can compare in quality and playability with a Zager, might be a premium Esteban, but as they say, you get what you pay for. I am so glad Zager came into my life. Just received my ZAD 80 yesterday and I'm on the fence about keeping it - primarily due to what appears to be shady business practice. No one can confirm where the parts are manufactured, and from what I can gather online, it seems to be somewhat of an Orangewood business model but without the transparency of Orangewoods marketing. I do like the guitar, but I've been in marketing for a Made in USA company for 23 years and it's something that matters to me. The fact that the Denny Zager is screen printed on the body, and the "hand written" thank you from Denny Zager is a photocopy all leads to the overall feeling of deception. In addition, my guitar was a Sale model that had apparently been played by Denny Zager in videos but it shipped from Las Vegas? That makes no sense and again, my assumption that what I have is a customer return.
      I may start the return process today.

    Zager's ZAD900CE is a work of art and a marvel of engineering. The combination of solid spruce and rosewood produces a tone that is both powerful and nuanced. The smaller 'OM' size fits like a glove, allowing for effortless fretting and strumming. The AURA system is the cherry on top, adding a touch of magic to the acoustic sound. Whether I'm playing in an intimate setting or on stage, this guitar never fails to impress. Zager has set a new standard in acoustic guitars, and I'm proud to be a part of the Zager family.

      I never owned a Martin, but I have played a few (OM-28 in particular) and IMO, the Zager was the equal and better in price.

      I am sorry that you have this issue. I am sure you have the tracking number and that you called Zager. In the past, I have corresponded with Whitney, Emily Zager, Bella Zager, and Trudy, not to mention Dennis Jr. They all have been quite helpful and responsive. Let me know if I can help!

    First and foremost, the ZAD900E is undeniably a masterpiece. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this guitar boasts a stunning design and impeccable construction. The choice of tonewoods is impeccable, resulting in a resonant and balanced sound that truly stands out. The combination of a solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides produces a rich, warm tone that is both powerful and nuanced, making it ideal for a wide range of musical styles.

    I just received my new ZAD80CE, and I couldn't be happier. The tone and chording are superior to anything I have played. among them is a Martin D18. The Zagers unquestionably produced a guitar that can compete with any well-known model now on the market. WELCOME, DENNY

    I am assuming these guitars are made in China for the kind of money they cost you could buy a Taylor or martin d18 imo.

      I bought a new ZAD 50ce from Zager in July 2023. Inside the body of the guitar near the neck is a small sticker which reads 'Made in Jakarta Indonesia"

    I’m considering a Zager but each video I watch makes the guitar sound tinny. I’m sure it’s the strings and not the playability. I know I can change them out but doesn’t that defeat the purpose so why Zager is an easy play guitar? That’s the only thing holding me back from pushing the buy button.

    • @pzguitar
      @pzguitar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The easy play is more a function of the custom string spacing (every so slightly increased between strings) and the frets used. I'll call it Easier Play.
      The Zager strings are just strings, IMO, they are HEAVIER than I prefer. I suspect they are 11's.
      I use 9's and it plays great and was an instant improvement on feel.
      The "Easy Play" is a bit of marketing and a bit of engineering (string spacing). I highly recommend you get a string height gauge to actually measure the string height and adjust the truss rod to find your sweet spot. That truss rod adjustment is part of the Zager EasyPlay system, but in rality, every guitar with a truss rod has that ability. I will say Zager does include a can't miss instruction.
      I do not add the Zager coated & uncoated strings into the equation for "Easy Play". If you love the Easy play strings, I have 6 set's (4 uncoated and 2 coated) I'll gladly trade!
      My suggestion: What ever your favorite string maker is, use them. I use Daddario/ Curt Mangan (my current fav), Magma, they all make acoustic 9's. Elixir/Martin/ Ernie Ball, and many others make acoustic 10's. Strings are meant to a consumable. Get your favorite string; use the Zager 30-day, arm yourself with your favorite set. Try to stock strings then swap them out. See if that makes a difference. This is all about finding a guitar that makes you WANT to play Every Day. I play the 900-OM to the point that I have already wore my Curt Mangan's out; I will shortly go to set # 3 of those. My Yammie is getting lonely.
      As far as a tinny sound, the guitar in the lap is *full* and very appealing. I purchased the OM size; a 'fuller' sound be on the dreadnought. Just keep that in mind as well. Let me know what you do! (you can email me, address is in the about tab for the channel)
      PS- it took me a YEAR before I hit that button, so don't feel alone.

      Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your experiences. It truly helps those of us who are considering a major purchase but fear the disappointment. The return policy is generous and makes it risk free but I hate being disappointed, nonetheless. I guess I've never recovered from Santa Claus. I will continue my research with hopes of pressing that buy button. Again, thanks for your comments and time.

      Part of the tinny nature of Zager guitars is the same as a Taylor 100-200 series...they're laminate. Plenty of people like that "jangle" but Im assuming you don't (good ear by the way).
      Warmer strings could help but it wont ever get rid of it completely. That would require an all-solid construction. I feel they sound way better but they're expensive, don't like sudden temperature shifts, and anything nitrocellulose lacquered will be even more temperamental.

    Just buy a Greg Bennett ASDR, same guitar at a more reasonable price.

      Thanks Robert. I am always looking for new and under the radar brands that could prove worthy! I tried to investigate Greg Bennett Guitars, I have come to the following conclusion: I can not find a single location in the NY metro area that sells Greg Bennett guitars; the SAMICK Music site (the manufacturer) does not sell to the public and the redirect to gregbennettguitars yields no way to obtain pricing. Again, the dealer locator function does not yield any useful/working information. The Greg Bennet YT channel has videos no videos *younger* than 12 years; the Greg Bennett FB page is 2016 and earlier. Reverb has only USED GB guitars. Are you sure this is a CURRENT, SUPPORTED and AVAILABLE guitar?

      I would LOVE to get a MODERN central A/C unit but all I have is a wall unit (thru the brick) both upstairs and down. It's VERY loud; I suppose I could have cooled the house down FIRST, then shut it off for the recording!! Hope you liked the video anyway. Thanks for watching.

      Fantastic!! I was *really* considering the ZAD80 as well. Are you getting the OM or the Dreadnought/ cut-away or full? Aura or non-aura electric or pure acoustic?
      If you like and keep the Zager, let me know. If you also like their pillow touch strings, I have 6 sets (2 coated/4 uncoated) I'll trade for my preferred strings. Good luck. I don't know anything about the Fender S60 other than it is a very affordable (and nice) classic design. Good luck!

    I've Wondered about them. But
    For what thay want for one of the nicer ones. You could get a very nice Martin or Gibson. But, at this point in my life just about any Guitar would be nice to have. My BlueRidge Guitar was Stolen about 6 weeks ago. It really SUCKS not having one right now. Your Videos are really Cool. Keep up the good work. 👍

      @pzguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting your guitar stolen is like losing an old friend. Very sorry to hear that. I was not (closely) aware of Blueridge, so I did what anybody does today: Google research. I went to the Saga Music website (owners / makers of Blueridge guitars) and did a peek & poke around. I chose the Blueridge BR-183CE since that was a OOO size (basically, same as my OM). I did not have any knowledge of what model you had previously. They read VERY similar, the 183 and the ZAD900OM-CE. Sitka Spruce top; Indian Rosewood B&S; mahogany neck. I think the Fishman Aura Pro electronics is superior to the Braggs. Zager's hard case is (I'm sure) better protection than the softcase backpack (the backpack does have advantages). The Zager (at this time right now) is $2070 (a coupon is running) and the 183 is $2600.
      BUT, if the feel and a familiarity of the Blueridge can not be overcome, then that is what you need to obtain (either new or a recovery of you old friend, hopefully unscathed). Keep watching!!
