italians have a long history of being conquered, ruled and being in conflict with pretty much anyone around us, we kinda have grudges and scars passed down in generations and stuff, so when we say something truly offensive to someone they know we are insulting them; otherwise we simply talk about something and then remember that you may be offended so we say that phrase. other stuff about the elderly are peculiar and not really easy to discuss.

OMG I relate to those jokes so much! I'm a quite young mixed-race black man(18), and the other half of me is PURE ITALIAN. To the point that I sometimes get that Tony Montana accent when I'm pissed off at somebody. Yes. Italians have absolutely no filter, and will say just about anything. What I learned from experience is that no matter how racist they are, they'll respect if you can serve back what they dish out.

No, it's not. Actually in Italian it doesn't mean anything, it's Sicilian dialect for eggplant which is NOT a derogatory term in Italy for black people.

L'UNESCO la riconosce infatti come una lingua madre in via di estinzione, ma questi onori trovano il tempo che trovano tanto che la Repubblica Italiana e la Regione Sicilia non la riconoscono come una lingua ufficiale. The danger of individual acts of racism is literally the ideology of racism. It's not that there is harm in identifying an individual as a label representative of the collective for their stereotypical behavior associated w that collective. Racism wasn't created w thexintention of hurting or offending those it is directed at... it was created to express distaste and resentment towards the changing of behaviors, institutions, or social values of the majority society. Nobody looks at the Native Americans from an objective perspective and says "Wow, those Natives had all that open land and were not all that welcoming of the new white refugees fleeing tyranny and death in their country... yet if you hold that opinion today about say the US southern border... you are called a racist.
