Always loved how she overloads the mic in the last round of the chorus, just before "Keep your sympathy". Smart of Moroder to keep it that way. RIP Irene ♥
It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, but seemed to be quickly forgotten, and lost in the shadow of her movie songs. I was very saddened by her death.
Gaaaahd ??!? memba going to the tape we thought this wud be here forever cassets stores ??? *geekygrin To all Millennials you shut up you don't nothing!!
I just heard this song. I read it was a Top 100 in 1983. I only thought there was 2 Songs Fame and FlashDance on the radio. I would have purchased CD's. I never heard about the Shows on Television or Concert's. Wow
The Linn LM-1 and Yamaha DX7 internal patch “Pipe Organ 1/Pipes 1” and descending synth/Yamaha DX7 ROM-4B patch “Descent” were heard in the dance-rock song.
Credit to Forsey too (co-writing this and "What a Feeling" with her). He wrote "Don't You Forget about Me" as well...Simple Minds passed on it, then a few others passed on it as well for the movie (including Billy Idol). Simple Minds then changed their minds for the better...
Irene Cara was blackballed in the music industry in the mid 80s by David Geffen in the mid 80s cause of a money issue of what she deserved from her record sales
@@JaySmith-wo3di The music industry sucks!!! Look what Berry Gordy did to Teena Marie!!! Motown screwed her over on her royalties from her song writing all her hits!! Then the Teena Marie law was passed that no record label could stop other record companies from releasing your material!! Wish they would re release this cd in its orginal form..very hard to find now..the cd extra tracks cd is great and all, but would be nice to have the with the songs in their original form and track listing..fingers crossed...
I thought it unfair she was compared to Donna Summer since they weren't alike at all. Their voices were different (Irene had a warmer quality while Donna had a more soul/gospel element)... and their writing styles were different (no way could I have seen Donna crafting Breakdance...and no way I could see Irene crafting The Wanderer'.
Sigo insistiendo este álbum era Para Donna Summer cuando se fracturó la fusión Moroder /summer aunque los temas le quedaron excelentes a cara gracias a su voz quizás sería el hermano" del lp the wanderer de Summer
I respectfully disagree, because Irene co-wrote all the songs. Donna initially declined to collaborate with a song for the "Flashdance" album because of comparisons between her and Irene, voice-wise. But Giorgio ended up convincing her and that's how the song "Romeo" featured on the soundtrack.

I've been singing this song for two weeks and finally had to hear the beautiful goddess Irene Cara sing it. R I P Irene.
This song peaked at #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on December 3, 1983.
The piano synth solo has been killing me since 84
I know, it's the best part of the song!
For me it’s the blistering guitar during the instrumental introduction!
No one asked

Moroder is so underrated; a master of early 80s dance oriented pop rock! This is one of his best, and he was a great match for Irene’s voice!
I always loved this song and it was pretty much overlooked. I don’t know why. I bought it but no one else did.
RIP Irene Cara 💐
It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, but seemed to be quickly forgotten, and lost in the shadow of her movie songs. I was very saddened by her death.
I bought the 45 lp. The follow up song is Talk Too Much, and it's a good song, but Why Me is better, I think. RIP Irene!
One of the best singers of the 1980s..
I remember hearing this awesome song on the car radio several times while on my way to work during the Fall & Winter months of 1983-84
Similarly, I often associate songs from my youth in the 80s with particular time periods!
Stylish song even now ! ❤❤
I guess I beat the herd on this one! RIP Irene. You'll always be on the soundtrack of my life. 😍
this song went to #13 on the pop charts in 1983!!!
RIP Irene Cara 🙏🙏🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️🌹🌹🌹
Desde el año 2000 buscaba esta canción y la encontré jijiji me encanta gracias Irene Cara 🎵🎵🎵😳😆😋🎸🎶

One of the first cassettes I ever owned. Was always singing her songs as a kid.

So love her voice.
How i love this music wayback in 1984. So famous that time
I just heard this song. I read it was a Top 100 in 1983.

Wow
One of my first 45s. Geffen records, I believe. I was 8 years old
During The Bagets Movie Era with Aga, William, JC, Raymond and Herbert 1984 Philippines 🇵🇭 🌟🌟🌟

its also a bit derivative of Blondie's Call Me which Moroder also produced

Heard this on the radio the other day. Had totally forgot about it.
She took her record company to court. They paid her over a million dollars but according to her it was supposed to be more than that.

Very true
She was blackballed
She really should've been a millionaire based on her co-writing Flashdance with Moroder. She was robbed for sure!
Geffen really was horrible. He had no idea how to market Donna Summer either.
