Even as an African and a Nigerian, 3 hours late is too much for a bride. Mostly, guests are the ones coming late to occasions but not up to 3 hours. Well all is in the past but moving forward she should respect time because it's precious to people.

As a person who struggles with being prompt, I feel so sad at how harsh most of these reactions are. I am never TRYING to be disrespectful to others. I am usually in a panic, berating myself and very upset, while rushing to try to make myself a little less late. I have been this way all my life (I have ADHD), and all my life, I have CONSTANTLY worked on improving this part of myself.
I love that Drue did not give up. I love how unconditionally they love each other. 💕
I was not late to my own wedding, but I did arrive about 10 minutes late to my daughter's wedding. They waited for me. I was quite embarrassed.
    🤦‍♀️😥😔

I have to admit that after an hour I would have been afraid Jeena was a no-show. By three hours I would have been in panic mode. But in the end, it worked out and you have a wonderful marriage and a beautiful family. 😊

We were about fifteen minutes late for ours (26 years next month), but only bc I was horribly sick. I was 7 months, almost 8 months pregnant with my son at the time, and it was an awful pregnancy, so many things went wrong. But anyway...
But my friend who is Greek got married and she was still getting her hair done and chilling, 2 hours after she was supposed to be getting married at her hometown cathedral. She hadn't gotten dressed yet by 3 hours after. Nobody seemed to be worried at all except for us bc we didn't know this is normal for them. When we finally all got there (everyone went together, a huge convoy of cars through the town), we still had to wait for her husband lol who was about half an hour after that. And the reception went on until 2-3 am, AND they had an after-party, but I got lost, so didn't go. I guess they didn't roll in until 8am the next morning lol Greek weddings are something else. 😅

Wow! I know that there's "a thing" about black people always being late, but I've never heard of anyone being this late for a wedding, especially not their own. 😮
I say that thirty minutes is long enough to wait for a wedding to begin. That's the longest I've waited for one, and the guests were beginning to wonder about the situation after twenty minutes.
There was mention of it being part of the Haitian culture. If so, how do you guys make arrangements for the venue if it's someplace that's open during certain hours? I've been to weddings where the officiant had two weddings back to back, and though they allow for extra time, and it's usually about an extra hour in case things run late.
I understand paying for a full day of venue use, but what happens if the day runs out before your event begins? What about catering, bands/DJs, and decorators? I dabble in event planning/decorating and I expect to have my decorations down and packed by the time we agreed on. I know that a lot of people have family and friends who handle _everything_ , so maybe that was something you guys had on your side.
I can relate to "black people being late", as I'm "black" (African, Native American and European descent), but I can't relate to Haitian culture. Still, I'm late to everything and I hate it. 😕
There are times when I'm on time, but I'm late more often than that. I think it really depends on what the event is, because I was right on time for all the weddings I've been in as a bridesmaid (always a bridesmaid, never a bride🫤) because I know weddings and funerals are extremely important to family and friends.
If the bride, groom or their immediate family hadn't had been ill or injured, or absolutely had no way to get there, as a guest, I probably would have left after an hour.
Like the saying goes "It was worth the wait", and it seems to be true for you guys. 🙂

My family is from the island of Puerto Rico and we are notarious for tardiness. And i forewarned my parrish priest i might be a little late. Now that i am older and have more responsibilities i have to train myself to be organized, and disciplined with others' time.
No judgement and i commented bc you gave permission.
Jennna, you are the most organized, disciplined, patient and creative mom i have viewed. But your family was wrong! 💜

I love the idea of weddings, and the start of your New Life together. Being a half hour to an hour I would have a little patience, but 2 hours 3 hours I'll be gone you'll just have to tell me about it. I also think just my opinion keeping your guests waiting 3 is so disrespectful. Just because others do it, you don't have to. I am glad y'all are happy together.

Three hours is SO late, that I would think the person wasn't gonna show lol I was about a half an hour late to my wedding. I think half hour to 45 minutes is acceptable. But wholly smokes Gina!

I would have loved to see more photos... So boo, only saw one. Also, What does a true Haitian wedding look like? I worked with some Haitian refugees at a center in Maryland. It was devastating because there was a lot of talk of sending them back. They had floated to the US on a small raft. And get this, we were told the white refugees 9x out of 10 get to stay, opposed to the black. But this was in the 90s, maybe it's different now...

@@lisramirez1959 I know. It was a refugee center. So there was hope and sadness. I think about those people and hope they weren't sent home to be slaughtered. There were white refugees that I was told would be easier for them to stay due to our government. It was an entire summer there, really good summer. Also went to Howard and interviewed a professor of African American Studies (it's what they were calling it at the time) and met Gloria Steinem and learned Grassroots Demonstrations.

Lol...My husband and and I showed up together but he forgot the rings so my mother and I went back home to get them. It took about 45 minutes to drive back, find where he placed them, then drive back. He wasn't use to the drive so he wasn't aware of how long it took. He thought I wasn't coming back ...bahahaha...19 years later we still laugh about how nervous he got.
