I still think Pendragon is the best RPG to deal with Mythic Britain, their source books were really good.

Great review with many good points! Grateful for the recommendation to check out the tome of British folklore. If this is your usual style of reviewing stuff you've earned yourself a new follower here in TH-cam. Hope this finds you well!

It is, mostly, but it depends on the product.

When I saw the title of the video I had really high hopes. I’m not sure who’s more disappointed, you or me! Thanks for another great review though.

I actually have Folklore Myths and Legends of Britain! Though it is currently in my brother's attic. It's one of the few books I saved when I had to downsize my life. Thanks for the clear and fair-minded review of the source book part of this. It's much appreciated.

Folklore Myths and Legends of Britain - I remember that book from when I was a child: black cover with a gold embossed kind of demon face. It always seemed rather sinister, inside and out. I distinctly remember the kind of faux wood cut illustration of Matthew Hopkins hanging witches. Thanks for the creepy trip down memory lane!

I don't care for adventures, either. For something like that book, I want an extensive sourcebook.

Never understood why folk horror isn’t a more richly mined vein in RPGs. As well as the authentic folklore, there’s tons of inspirational material in film and also 1970s British TV. Maybe that’s it - you need to have grown up in that particular time and culture.

There is a game about nordic folk horror set in the 19th century. It's called Draug.
Yes it's much older than Væsen. When I saw Væsen first, I thought it was Draug 2nd Edition... .

Lost me at "for modern audiences". I prefer to think of myself as a member of the audience from 1964-1994 or so. Call me when things are coming out for that audience. ;-)

I absolutely detest this format adopted by WotC and others.
Campaign settings should be campaign settings, not adventures. Fortunately I have a lot of the old boxed sets for AD&D and setting books for other games, but it's still sad to see possibilities being wasted.

This seems to me to be a big lazy product that any gamer with a general interest in folklore and access to the internet could have written much much better. As usual it looks lovely, but it is style over substance. Pretty insulting from Free League to sell this as a guide when it is just an adventure with some slim chicken feed added on.

Their Eriador book for The One Ring is the same. Some adventures sold as a source book... .
