Flabaliki, you're a legend. An actual legend. I love the way you do these videos. I learn while I laugh. If only school had been so entertaining I might not be home in the middle of the day building a Sims 3 house.
Still helpful years later. Actually watching this because I decided to build in Sims 2 UC on a whim and couldn't remember how to use CFE without making a hot mess out of it.
Yeah I've seen that before, I don't care for it. I'm used to typing the cheats out, been doing it since Sims 2 came out. Also, for tutorials, it is better to have the full cheat as a lot of people won't have that mod.
THANKS FOR MAKING THE SPLIT LEVELEING TUTORTIALS!!!! I personally think split leveling adds more character to your build and makes it more realistic!!!! im taking notes!!!!!
All your tutorials are really really good, very clear and easy to follow with lots of handy tips and info. I've always had trouble finding good Sims 3 building tutorials so thanks heaps! :)
@puffins112 Yeah I know that. The only reason it is usually shown like that is for readability. constrainfloorelevation is harder to read than ConstrainFloorElevation.
Thanks so much, you've been a life saver. I was getting pretty desperate trying to find a video that explains all of this. You've explained it very well and I'm going to practice following every step. I could never make it work before this. This is going to be a real breakthrough for me in my house building. So thanks heaps. The skies the limit. B-)
The only thing I don't like, which I suppose is a small trade off, is the view the room takes on when you walk from level to the next. I used this method just yesterday and when you go to the next, what I call sublevel, it looks really weird. I had to Page Up when the Sim Paged Down just to keep the house looking normal. I think I've got the hang of how it works though, creating split levels..
Again, I do a lot of fancy footwork with my building but I've always used the steps outside and had to count and add walls and floors, etc. to get the desired effect. I had not idea I could use the stairs tool inside! Once I figure this out and, more importantly remember to use it, this will make my house building much easier. It's really useful if you change your mind during the build - that can get hairy! That 5 floor restriction is kind of a pain with building - miss the multiple floors in S2
tip, something i learned with late night, there is a level skip marker in the buydebug menue, so you can put those on the first and third level that you want to skip anyway, so it acts like a two story home, so if you have a basement you just need to click down 2 times instead of 4. just saves a little annoyance, but i have only tested this on the roof top level and the foundation level if i have a basement
Storey is the British/European english spelling of the second floor of a building. We Americans just combined them into one word like bat (the animal) and bat (the sports equipment).
I built the second floor of my house with the split level technique to make a modern looking, "thick", balcony , not functional but just to look nice, on the exterior but I can't get stairs going from the first floor up to the second. I can get the stairs aligned to look like they will function properly but my Sims cannot get up them. How can I fix that? Should I only use this for the balcony and do the basic build for the actual house?
I love your videos! They're extremely helpful. I've been trying to figure out second-floor split-leveling for a while now. But I usually end up with an hour of headaches and a bulldozed lot. lol Is there anything we can do about the exterior paint, though? Split-leveling inside the house makes some weird things happen on the outside, and only solid colors look presentable.
I have a really dumb question and I'll probably be bashed for asking it, but when you placed the stairs to drop the level of walls and there were just floating there, if you were to add floors to the sections can the sims use those? I only ask cause I'm trying to build a stair case that sort of does that curving, thats why Im watching all these videos again. :)
In Australia, New Zealand and virtually any country under the Queen of England's power you would spell it 'storey'. Same with 'colour', 'favourite' etc. American English is just a deformed version of what is actually English. :P
Love this series! I also convert these tutorials so I can use them for TS2, and I do have a few questions- How can I make my split level higher? Maybe like double the height of one foundation...? Can I do the same thing with platforms? Isn't there a cheat for TS2 and TS3 to change the floor limit (How many floors you can add)?
Before answering, 1 regular wall is 16 steps of the stairs, a foundation is 4 steps (or 1/4 of a wall). What he was doing at 1:30 (Putting 3 sets down) was giving that floor foundation height. When putting stairs to change the level (without holding the ALT key), it put the steps in pairs of 4 (1/4 of a wall). (With holding the ALT key, the steps would be put down singularly.) If you were to want the wall at 8 steps tall, you would only put 2 sets of 4 [16-8=2*4]. If you wanted to make is only 1 step tall (even though it still needs stairs *>:(* ) you would put down 3 sets of 4 and then 3 additional steps [16-1=(3*4)+3]. If by platforms you mean flooring, then yes, the flooring does change along with the walls. If by platforms you mean the stage-like floor found along with foundations, I do not believe so. And speaking for The Sims 3 Only, there is not any possible way to change the floor limit. Please keep in mind that the majority of the information here may not be 100% true, I am going off of the larger quantity of videos I have seen as well as searching some blurs (/ things I was not exactly clear on). I hope my reply helped.
Miriam Webster Dictionary Definition of STORY 1 a the space in a building between two adjacent floor levels or between a floor and the roof b a set of rooms in such a space c a unit of measure equal to the height of the story of a building (one story high) 2 a horizontal division of a building's exterior not necessarily corresponding exactly with the stories within Variants of STORY story also sto·rey You both are correct, however it is "story" either way, it's like Color and Colour
I discovered, with the window issue, that if you place a window on top of the one you already placed that isn't working, it'll fix it. My house is a trainwreck, but at least it has functional windows!
thank u for helping me im trying to make a house so I wanted to know how to make the 2nd floor this is my first time so idk how make a house but ill try
I really appreciate the help, but I tried doing split levels. It worked on the first level, but i tried doing a split level on the second floor and it ended up like an Escher painting. I have no idea what I'm doing wrrong.
You can apply foundation-height stories on any level using the foundation tool after typing "buildFriezes on". You have to select the foundation tool AFTER you entered the cheat. I highly recommend turning the cheat off again once you're done, else the game will just throw error messages at you whenever you wanna place a wall.
Every time I place my stairs, I can't place another leading down just below it, only on the same level as my previously placed stairs. Where have I gone wrong?
Now I've gotta try this I absolutely love your videos because I love to build and it gives me new ideas. You can actaully see some of my houses on the exchange my username is the same as my youtube.
OMG, Tysm for this. Me and my other 4 family members finally moved to settle in our own house that we bought for my parents to grow older in with my grandmother and me and my brother to finish growing up. I'm 15 and he's 18 so I guess he's grown, but he's living with us still. We have a "split floor" on our stair case and I was having so much trouble with it while recreating our house on sims, just to do it I guess. So just FYI you helped me tons! Ty!
To make things look better? You might wanna put a kitchen or a living area for example a few steps down to sort of seperate it but still keep the whole plan open if you know what I mean :)
Me and my computer does this weird thing where like they put me on the second episode when I'm supposed to be on the first sorry about that cuz I don't die
So this is a cool instructional video....but you're making this whole split leveling thing FAR MORE COMPLICATED than it needs to be. With the Cheat "placefriezes on" you are able to build a foundation on ANY level, NOT JUST terrain. By enabling the cheat you can have the EXACT same affect shown in this video by just merely plopping a foundation on the second floor. And, you wouldn't have to disguise a gap with stairs. Just an FYI.
Not the exact same at all. Like you said, friezes are foundations on other levels, you can't places objects inside of them, windows, doors, etc. This is very different.
@GhostPhriek Only solid colours will really help you other there. But remember, not the whole house has to be the same paint :)
So I just went back to Sims 3 recently, and honestly, baby James is the best ♡
Flabaliki, you're a legend. An actual legend. I love the way you do these videos. I learn while I laugh. If only school had been so entertaining I might not be home in the middle of the day building a Sims 3 house.

Can't imagine my Sims' life without your videos!

All your tutorials are really really good, very clear and easy to follow with lots of handy tips and info. I've always had trouble finding good Sims 3 building tutorials so thanks heaps! :)
this helped so much!!! I can always find tutorials on how to do it from the ground but i've never been able to do it from the 2nd floor, thank you.
@puffins112 Yeah I know that. The only reason it is usually shown like that is for readability. constrainfloorelevation is harder to read than ConstrainFloorElevation.
@countrybuck91 That's how you spell it in terms of levels in a house, google it.
Thanks for making this series. I finally decided to get Sims 3 after taking a very long break from EA games
Yes, but that is very limited and I would only suggest using it if you can not be bothered to do this method to achieve greater flexibility.
Thank you for all of the video tutorials. :) I feel like I've been watching some old episodes of Art Attack. You sound a lot like the old host.
You seem so different in this than you do now! I know it was years ago but it's weird :)
Omg his voice changed alottt
Make sure to turn off the cheat before you remove it, so enter - ConstrainFloorElevation True
There's actually a cheat called placeFriezes (on/off) it allows you to place a "Frieze" on your roof and is good for split leveling.
Helpful even 6 years later!
Amazing! really well explained and easy to anderstand (and practice)
I have no idea if you're gonna see this, but can you make a tutorial of how to make a loft in Sims 3?
I built the second floor of my house with the split level technique to make a modern looking, "thick", balcony , not functional but just to look nice, on the exterior but I can't get stairs going from the first floor up to the second. You could use placefrieze on cheat to place foundation on top of floor
I love your videos! They're extremely helpful.

Nice! I'll probably use these in my house :) Thanks!

Happy birthday video!
If I was telling a story it would be. The second storey of a house is different.
How do you take your cap shots after your speed builds, I can't find a way to remove all of the square tiling guides
In Australia, New Zealand and virtually any country under the Queen of England's power you would spell it 'storey'. Same with 'colour', 'favourite' etc. American English is just a deformed version of what is actually English. :P

I guess you could try to put 2 stairs instead of 3. I don't know its just a guess :/

Is it possible to make split levels on second storey in Sims 4?
This is what we called "helping"
I can't get the stairs to place!! HELP!
0:35-how did you do that? I didn't know that was possible!
In the mansions in Bridgeport, how'd they make the split level there?
what if you want to make the walls taller and not shorter, like a tall arch for your door
(texas style house)
then what do you do?
I really appreciate the help, but I tried doing split levels. It worked on the first level, but i tried doing a split level on the second floor and it ended up like an Escher painting. I have no idea what I'm doing wrrong.
Yay! Every house I make now is going to be split level on every floor lol.
This is cool, but what can you do with split levelling?
Um... what?
You can apply foundation-height stories on any level using the foundation tool after typing "buildFriezes on". You have to select the foundation tool AFTER you entered the cheat. I highly recommend turning the cheat off again once you're done, else the game will just throw error messages at you whenever you wanna place a wall.
so how do you split level into the hillside with foundation on top?
Well done - nice video - helpful =)
that moment when you remember you play sims 3 and get the full 5 story as opposed to the sims 4's 3!
YAY! New video! :)
how did you take off the foundation ? when i rake it off it does that thing where the wall looks like the floor ! help plz
Fashionsimmer you do the chat but true insted of false
Every time I place my stairs, I can't place another leading down just below it, only on the same level as my previously placed stairs. Where have I gone wrong?
I can't even put the foundations inside my house ! Is there a video explaining that?
Cool! I gotta try that. Thanks! :-)
Can you do a tutorial for sims 4 like this?
Now I've gotta try this I absolutely love your videos because I love to build and it gives me new ideas. You can actaully see some of my houses on the exchange my username is the same as my youtube.
is it still possible to split levels on 3rd storey? thanks for the response.. :)

Thank you.

i keep following all the steps but it keeps ending up wayy diffrent and idk what im doing wrong :s
where's cc? i can't heard
Aye, very nice job and helpful too. Um... do Australians say aye or yes or what?
Say what you say
I watched this! :D
Me and my computer does this weird thing where like they put me on the second episode when I'm supposed to be on the first sorry about that cuz I don't die
lol at how you spell Storey..is that the Aussie spelling?
It isnt working =.-
I only use it when my game decides to be a bitch a screw up when I'm trying to make a split-level house.
WOOT!!! FIRST!!!
its story

You could of just deleted the foundation!!!!
Jolee. Go learn before you get on TH-cam.
this doesn't work. fake vid or mod that we're not being told about
Thnx for doing these episodes its realy useful
