My guess is initially the room there was going to serve the purpose having something like a couple of dead marines in it or something, a way to stock up on ammo as coming into this area is right after the jetpack brutes and buggers. I can only assume they decided it was a bit too out of the way and pointless given the abundance of weapon racks in nearly every room for the mission.
I don't even know why it's there especially since it's just a regular shotgun and you can already get to those guns before you fight the chieftain alongside his brutes.
Imagine what secrets lie beyond all the other closed doors. A rocket launcher? A Scarab Gun?!
Shotgun is cool and all, but that gameplay leading up to it was pretty clean ngl. Never knew about the shotty though.

I'm guessing that was an accessible area but was later cut and they just left the shotgun spawn
So maybe someone can make a modded campaign that opens that door, so we can get that shotgun in the future.

seems like an unused area the devs intended a shotgun to be on, cool! time to make a campaign mod furthering their vision🙂
