@@markkealy4417 Fair enough. Still, I figured a company like Nike would make the shoes look less half-assed, but it seems like they understand that with their recent models of the shoes.
Apparently, I heard that the idea came about when a person suffering from cerebral palsy complained to Nike that putting on regular shoes was requiring him to routinely ask for help from carers. Nike listened to the suggestion and developed these, so that people with disabilities could just slip into the shoes, without needing to use their hands.
It does not. Had one pair for 2 years, even played tennis with them. Had to give them away because my feet are wide and it was tight even a number larger
Normal Nike shoes break in half nowadays. The quality has gone to trash. -Heel breaks off -heel padding tears after 2months because the fabric is to thin. -The to fabric breaks within 3momths where your toes bend, again too much plastic and too thin fabric. -The stupid mesh fabric makes them impossible to clean at the toes. -The Rubber underneath is 4times thinner than 10years ago, again to make them wear out after 6months. I've had Nikes wear out underneath from walking to work a couple of months.
Not at all, my elderly grandmother has trouble pulling slip-ins on and often needs help or a shoe horn. A disabled friend of mine owns these due to his condition making a firm grasp impossible. They are far more suitable for many conditions.
Oh God I need those so bad. After my car accident last year it's become a chore to try to bend over to tie my shoe strings. Before the accident it was no problem.
Useful for someone I know but not paying $300 just cause they’re a size 10.5. Useful shoes and people that need them can’t access them. Gotta love humanity!
I can definitely see this shoe just randomly "breaking" during an evening run and causing me to fall. Not for me, but I'm sure someone out there will find it useful
These aren't running shoes in the first place. They're specifically designed for people who have such limited mobility that they benefit from slip on designs
Some of the coolest looking adaptive shoes I have seen! I'm glad that I'm just randomly stumbling upon this stuff more lately bc hopefully thst means it's becoming more common and available for people who need it. I love that designers are working to make things useful and accessible AND fun and good looking
It is not a bad idea by all means, but as somebody who is working with orthopedic shoes, I would make the rubber band easier to replace in case it looses elasticity. Since the entire stability of the shoe depends on it, which is already rather weak. People with certain disabilities need stability in their shoes to ensure they do not fall and get injured. Still, a very nice design idea, I would be interested to test the shoe myself.
Yeah, they're just a slippers with back cover though. They have no stability and if you don't have any health issues already, you might get some whole using them.
This is genius! Not just because slipping them on and off the way everyone does is now tons easier and doesn't damage the shoe over time but also the implications this could have for amputees!! :D
i do wish that they were more affordable and possibly more secure, but it is nice to not only see a big brand focus on the disabled demographic. it can be such a pain to find shoes that slip on easily while also being supportive enough for my legs and hip, and said shoe looking nice is an always appreciated addition
I remember a reddit post about a woman getting these for her husband who has a mobility issue (don't remember) and her nephew who was staying with her for college straight up sold them on ebay and she kicked him out Pretty sure he was about to ship them so she was able to recover the shoes quick and return the money
My main concern is durability. Shoes suffer some of the harshest abuse out of all clothing. If the band or folding point breaks, it essentially becomes useless. I don't see such a shoe being cheap, either.
i love how my first thought was "oh, so you dont crack the heel when you put your shoes on" despite being somebody who would actually benefit from these in meaningful ways
