I'm glad to see you placed the original bearing back with the slight wear mark on it. I found this slight wear as well on some bearings when I pulled the main caps, and I'm led to believe on the internet that it mandates replacement, like, right now. Which is easier said than done when one doesn't mind turning a weekend job into a full engine rebuild and has all the tools, money and time in the world to do it. I like to think that there are a zillion cars driving around with slightly worn bearings that people don't know about because they never got a chance to check it.
Good job. It's important to note that the main caps are not interchangeable - they must go in the same location and orientation that they came from. Don't be afraid of using solvent (paint thinner) for cleaning the grime - especially after sanding or filing.
You really did your homework! Awesome to see you persevere through those issues. I’ve done this job before and I can tell you it’s never easy especially on your back with no lift. Keep at it! Hopefully you’ll inspire more younger mechanics like us to keep these gems alive! 👍🏼😎
Awesome video. So refreshing to see the challenges you went through (and how you tackled them) which i can relate with my 66 project. I swear they all have their very own issues 🙃
This video is EXCELLENT on how to do this and rather than making it look easy Kat's video showed all the little details you need to know to do this job... AND the things that can go wrong. (I use hardened air wrench sockets with a long breaker bar to remove the main cap bolts.) Well done Kat!
Hell yeah auto girls rock!!! Your dad, or possibly mom, must be proud. Remember my first build like it was yesterday it's only been since highschool which was 6 years ago but still I'm old now lol
I'm glad you didn't get any file shards in your eyes when it snapped. I know they are not stylish, but safety glasses are nice to have on. Hopefully you don't have to again, but if your taking off main caps, next time loosen the bolts a bit and tap the cap from the left and right side with a rubber mallet till it drops onto the bolts.
Nice job, just did this on a friends 66 moosetang. The engine builder did not clock the rear main seal, no leaks now. Maybe it was the camera but that looked way more than 3/8 of an inch. Did not have to loosen any of the other main caps, just use plenty of oil putting it in. Cheers to you for doing it on the floor we had it on a lift.👍
It’s great fun watching you discover the how, and what’s needed, to do these repairs, takes me back a few years to when I was learning how to do similar stuff (including starters and oil pan gaskets). I laughed out loud when you used necessary ‘plumbing words’ when things went awry. The only suggestion I would make (from many experiences laying on my back under vehicles and a ‘few’ years teaching HS science) is to wear your safety glasses ALWAYS when you’re working over your head and above your face. Getting junk in your eyes is NO fun.
just found your channel I am working on a 68 and have been where you are 100% working on a car this old makes you feel like the gods are against you! great work and great job
Kat. Great to meet you yesterday at the hanger.. nice Mustang, with a great sound. It sounds like that ngine has had some work, like a cam at least Good luck with the project. 😊
Hello. Very cool that you work on cars yourself. I'm showing this to my 8year old daughter as an inspiration for what girls can do :) Cheers from Czech republic
Congratulations! You did a great job. I saw the impala on the supernatural series and I have loved it ever since. As a 28 year old, my dream is to have an impala one day. After watching you, maybe I'll make my own impala, who knows.
Very interesting your videos and also to see how you manage to find a solution for every problem on the way! Your perseverance is inspiring! Keep going. I will stay tuned for more updates! Regards from Peru!
Not an easy task with the motor in the car and no lift, many people would have pulled the motor. reminds me when i was in my 20's driving through Europe on the side of the road changing a rod bearing on my lotus 7 after tearing up the Italian mountains a little too well. my daughter is only 1 at the moment but i hope she grows up to love working on things with her dad in the shop.
Thank you for confirming my thoughts to just take it to a repair shop to do this 😉 Actually im a lot older than you and just cant climb under the car much anymore like I used to.
Found you from super car blondie. Awesome work. All the female techs I know are awesome because they are the ones that truly love the work enough to go against the norms . Keep up the great work!
Great work Kat. Don't feel special because your are cursed by the Automotive's Gods!!!! You are not the only one!!! Lol... I'm thinking about starting the cult of the "Automotive's Gods Dammed". Keep on the great work. I'm struggling with similar things with my 1966 Ford F100.
Hey Kat keep up the great work! I think you need to invest in acouple of breaker bars they will make your life so much easier when removing stubborn bolts!
Me: *takes the car to the mechanic because I don't wanna break any bolts* Kat with no fear: *breaks a file and a socket* Ps: '67 mustang is my dream car and I'm glad you got to replace the rear main seal!
Didn't know you had a TH-cam. I've been following you on Tiktok though and you've done a great job restoring your Mustang so far! I'm also building a 67' also on my TH-cam and Tiktok page. Looking forward to more of your content!
Just started watching your videos think this is great like how your explaining what your doing ,the car looks great full credit to you for getting in and having a go at something you like doing ,cannot what to see more of what your doing
2:33 You don't know the word fun until you had to crawl trogh the hole behind the back seats from a Ford torino with a sunburn all over your shoulders and sunstroke to get the keys wich your Father forgot in there. And you search and search until you notice the keys aren't even in there. The keys leyd on the desk in the garage. And I was staying home for the rest of the week.
Hat was way more than 3/8 of an inch, really surprised you got it back together, 1/4 is fine, also those one piece gaskets really aren't made for that style of dimpled oil pan.
Definitely looking forward to more content on TH-cam from you. My two cents are that you should try to find a way to get consistent sound volume throughout the video. I'm thinking maybe a low profile wearable microphone of some sort. The other cent is to be prepared for your comments section, I'm certain it's going to get wild and downright rotten at times. You and Maverick are awesome, best of luck!
I used right stuff sealant. I also thought my rear main seal was leaking. Turned out it was the bolts that hook up the flex plate to the crank. They didn't have any sealant.. it was my first rebuild must have forgot.😄
Awesome stuff! Remember files are very brittle lol , even dropping one could snap it. Your crank bearing are showing a little bit of copper which usually means you might need to change your crank bearings soon.
As a total noob, did you keep note on what order you took out the main caps? So that you place them back at the correct order? (I assume they are all the same, but I guess it is recommended to place everything back exactly the same as it came from)?
Hey, great question! There’s actually numbers stamped on them and arrows that point towards the front of the car so you don’t forget the order or put them in backwards :)
@@kats_classics great job. That would have been the one point I would have made as well. Also torquing the crank bolts is vital. How did the bearings look?
Do you have an update? 5 months in, has it started leaking again (hopefully not) or still good?? I've had to replace mine twice in the past 3 years damnit
Eye protection. Not to sound like THAT party spoiler, but it's wise if you use appropriate glasses for your eyes. Rusty dust with heavens know what crap (including metal filing/tiny chips) might fall in small amounts on your face and in your eyes. Just use them, safety first, less to no regrets later. (machinist since 1999. Different world, same possible dangers)
Why no more videos?? :-( i am your new sub here 😊 from Philippines, hope there is a way that i can watch your vids or fb or what hahaha ..support here for you

Wow. You go girl. Very impressive. I have never seen such a young gal so interested in working on classic muscle cars. 👍🏻
Cars, repairs, nuts & bolts, dirt and guitar 😊

Thanks for the how too! I am nervous about doing this myself.

Hi,Kate! First to say: U r so beautiful, especially your smile!
As I mentioned, main bearings are worn out, I saw a copper on them.

Well done! It takes a lot of breaking tools to know what the tools can handle. Specially if you use them for something that they are intended for.
Awesome video! Keep it up 😊
Nice work Kat👍. Yep hand files aren't the best prying tools, ask me how I know😆.
Very helpful. Great work
Awesome work mate. Keep it up. Keen to see what you do next. 👍
Really good work

Loved the video, but you forgot to remove the little pin that holds the bottom seal in place. Then tap it in after you put the bottom cap in.
Love this!
My dream of a year mustang, but in a fastback.
Good job
henry ford still alive
My dream car and dream girl :D
Is it a good idea to get them in caps mixed up with each other since they go back to which one it came off of
Your so pretty and talented 💖💖☺️💖☺️😍🥰🥰😍😍😍😍
Nice to see you getting your hands (and face) dirty… a true wrenching girl and not just here for the looks.

👍👍🇮🇳🇮🇳. Hi. Kathrine,,
How much did it all cost like the car and everything you have replaced or restored.
Just curious.(sorry if my English is bad)
Hi kat, how many years have you been working and doing things like this?
How did you learn it?
You need a Milwaukee M12 ratchet and your life will totally change.
Do you have an update? 5 months in, has it started leaking again (hopefully not) or still good?? I've had to replace mine twice in the past 3 years damnit
Is that your own workshop? Desperate to start a project but need to build a workspace first
it looks like you're not doing the top half of the seal....that's where stuff gets ugly.....unlike you that is beutifull. ;D
