Just stumbled on your videos after researching on the TEControl which I purchased a month ago. Better late than never. Your music is simply amazing and you are a genius in your own right. Thank you sir for this very clear tutorial. May your passion and energy be boundless.
probably the most useful video I have watched today. thanks for this. Got to research on this tool. I had seen mod wheels, pitch bends, sustain pedals, velocity response.. but Never seen a breath controller before. Thanks :)
Excellent. Looking into purchasing one, and this was very helpful. I feel like I got a nice little 1 on 1 consultation instead of the usual youtube yelling bang bang. Thank you.
Great instructional video! I just got my BBC2 and while listening to your trumpet the first thing that caught my ear was the very natural legato articulations on while scaling up and down. I was going to ask you what sample library you were using and then I saw Sample Modeling, which is great since I just bought The Trumpet 3 from them. I've been trying to find any instructional videos and your info is helpful. I wish SampleModeling would put out an instructional video to get new people up and running with this thing. I am a trumpet and trombone player and I'm looking forward to playing with this new toy. Thanks for putting the video up.Bob Ryan.
Great tutorial and concept!! Your Sample Modeling trumpets and horns sound awesome especially since they are naturally very dry. Any particular tips you can offer on giving them that big stage sound? Are you still on Altiverb? Thanks in advance! Sam
Hey Mike, I really appreciate all the content you upload here. Can I ask - what processing are you doing to the sample modeling instruments(reverb and EQ)? Ive been trying to give it an orchestral sound for quite some time and I'm not satisfied yet, and the sound you're getting is pretty amazing.
I bought this breath TEControl for use with my Tyros 3, but now I don't know how to map it to CC1,2,12 & 13 ? Maybe via my MFC 10 Midi food controller? Maybe I'm too old (82) ? Thanks for help, Joh from Australia
I would think it would be easier to use the modwheel for the vibrato and the breath controller for the dynamics. Is there a particular reason you don't?
Mike Verta Yeah I watched/heard that part but I was asking why your modwheel technique wasn't being used for the vibrato and doing the dynamics more true-to-the-instrument with the breath controller.
***** As I said in the video, I've been doing modwheel-for-dynamics for many years, and I'm very comfortable that way. It's just habit/preference, that's all. I know most people will find it more natural to do it the other way, which is why I introduced the concept that way initially. I do occasionally use breath control for dynamics - for certain passages or articulations - but what's nice is that you can use the controller to control pretty much anything you like. :)
I just purchased one and cant get it to work with any of Sample Modeling programs (or any other program). Just tells me CC11 is not received yet although the BC utility shows its configured correctly and shows connected. What did I miss?
with it being usb, do you just plug it into a usb port and it's playable in your DAW, or do you have to plug it into the usb and also some midi in/out port?
If you are not including breath control with respect to natural and controllable vibrato - like what is experienced on a real woodwind instrument, then the reviewer does understand this most important dimension of music. To suggest that a mod wheel could be used as vibrato in any capacity, is insane.

Do you still use a breath controller? If so, do you use sample modelling's libraries or the newer SWAM from audio modelling?
Excellent demo Mike! Like the liquor cabinet too! 😎👍🎹🎸🎺🎤

Great review and playing/feel :) Recognised that Star Wars ESB theme from the 1st couple of notes with those lovely dynamics!

awesome little device - don't regret buying it
So great! Thanks for choosing just the right examples :-)

TEControl support is not very good at all. Is there anyone out there that can assist with this controller.
Really cool Mike.

I think Midi ribbon controler is good choice for Vibrato.

Mike, what samples are you using in this video?
+calaf5 The Trumpet and Horn from Samplemodeling

Still waiting on that modulation video you promised Mike...
Tune in this Friday night, 8/25 at 7pm PST for a FREE Masterclass, and I'll be doing the modulations live. www.ustream.tv/channel/mike-verta
Mike Verta I missed the live session, but thoroughly enjoyed it here on TH-cam in the course of 4 days! Thank you for the modulations as well!
Thanks, Mike! I want one! great for v,i. contol discussions like this

I would definitely contact TEC because it is usually dead simple!
