Thank you so much - I watched this a couple hours after you put it out two weeks ago. There are no other videos explaining this so quickly and clearly. I have never really learned ornamentation although I’ve been playing for two years now, besides slides and taps - please keep making videos!
So on the long roll you play the g note Then lift the g note and tap with the f sharp and.the shr short roll you play the a note with a cut and tap on the g note? The opposite? Ok I'm dyslexic so I'm a hands on kind of guy. I'm following along with you as I read my Irish music theory book. So far you're my favorite Music tutor.Thamk you for taking the time to make your video,John...
Aaaah-Haaaa! So that's how you get that sound! I'd heard a short roll described differently but I get the impression (without having rigorously researched the topic) that an English short roll might be different from the Irish. Sounds that way listening to folk stuff.
can somebody help me? what does the "3" mean? ge | dBAc BGGA | B2BA (3BcD ge | dBAc BG~G2 | eaag ageg | dBAc BG~G2 | DBBA B2ge | dBAcBG~G2 | eeag agef || this is a tune i'm trying* to learn called the blackberry blossom.
also, sean, how should i play this? "|dBAc BG~G2|" A B followed by a simple G, then a short G roll? or a B followed by a single long* G roll? it's from the tune blackberry blossom, which i believe is beyond my skill level but i'm not giving up!
I love the way you explain, clearly and precisely, without dragging it out and waffling.
This is the best video explaining the short rolls. Thank you.

The long roll is played ON the beat, and the short roll is played BEFORE the beat.
