    that's what I love about Courtney, her originality. Any cover she sings, she claims it. More than often, with the odd one or two exceptions, she kills it, and her version out classes the original, by leaps and bounds.

    Thanks for doing this one. She has done several different songs making each one her own. This was one of four songs she released as an EP of covers along with "Someone You Loved", "Sucker" and "Sign of the Times". There are many videos of Courtney 9 years old through recent ones virtually all are amazing. I may "jump the line" again to request a reaction to one of my favorites. Peace and long life.

    React to more Courtney and I will subscribe, I love Miss Hadwin and I’ve been following her since AGT and I still love to watch people react to her covers it makes me smile. Please react to her cover of Love Hurts which she recorded in Switzerland I believe, I think she was still young then probably between 15-16 years old and it is just WOW!! 😁😁

    Hi Brandon. Great reaction. So glad to see you back with another Courtney performance. She is simply brilliant, and you're just scratching the surface of seeing what she can do. You mentioned how much different this was than what you expected, so you're familiar with the original by Lil Nas. Besides the incredible vocals, what stands out about Courtney is both her amazing creativity as well as her range. Here, she took what was originally a Country/Hip Hop song and completely dismembered it . Then she put it back together into this magnificent rock anthem. Courtney said that when she first heard this song, she could envision in her head this completely different way that it could be done and she just had to sing it. Lucky for all of us that she did so, You will find this again and again about Courtney. Whenever she does a cover, it's because she has her own take on how the song could or should have been sung. No point in doing a cover if you're just going to mimic the original, so you can guarantee any cover she does will always be her own, and incredibly so.
    When Courtney was on AGT, she sang exclusively classic rock, and so those that did not know more about her, viewed her as only this fabulous stage dominating rocker, which she most certainly is, but she is so much more. She has one of the most versatile voices in music and is equally as great across everything from R&B, Funk, Soul and Ballads as she is at Rock. She even had an opera clip go viral and to hear the exquisitely beautiful voice she has when she sings a ballad is a true musical feast.
    Courtney was just preparing to drop her debut album when Covid hit and everything was shut down. Her release has been repeatedly delayed for over the last two years as a result, but a ban that was in place for travel from the UK (Courtney is British) to the US was just lifted at the end of last year and she is back at work on finishing the album, with a release expected within the next few months. In the interim, Courtney has shared all or parts of a number of originals and they have been fabulous. Turns out that beyond the off the charts vocal and performing skills that Courtney has, she is also a true powerhouse as a songwriter. She has fans from all parts of the world and, with the anticipation that has built, her album drop will be epic.
    You mentioned a couple of things. One was Courtney's age. You are correct that she is 18 now (just last month), but she was just 14 when she recorded this. She turned 14 while in the middle of her AGT run and this was recorded less than a year after that. You also mentioned her gorgeous falsetto. It is really beautiful and she has such control over it. I would recommend for a next reaction that you do one of Courtney's ballads, so you will get to hear a completely different side of her talent. It's a gorgeous cover, in which Courtney unleashes a bit more of that falsetto, but along with that beautiful voice, it also has a bit of the signature Courtney grit.

      @@bobobobfellerann4765 All four songs in Courtney’s ‘Cover Session’ EP were recoded in May of 2019. Courtney turned 15 a couple of months later in July. Incredible the kind of vocal power and control that Courtney already had at such a young age.

    • @bobobobfellerann4765
      @bobobobfellerann4765 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edwarddevogelear4432 That increases my level of concern. All of her best known performances (with the very highest production values) were recorded before she turned 15!?!
      For a young person struggling with physical maturation and whose developing a prefrontal cortex that's always saying "put away childish dreams and be realistic" that's likely to screw with a person's mind. If it were me, I might feel like I've lost the thing that made me special.
      I hope Courtney understands that she's perfect the way she is. She's developing into something even better that what she was at 14. No matter how awkward or "off" she may sometimes feel - and we all know what that's like - she has fans who love, enjoy and support her no matter what!

  • @rickrhoden1
    @rickrhoden1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I am subscribed, Brandon, because I find your reactions have more knowledgeable substance in the analysis than most. You are getting a rapid awareness of why so many of us think Courtney is uniquely special. She is the only entertainer I seriously follow (excepting occasional Elvis binges). You referred to her many vocal tools which you have described. You noticed her "smooth as silk...butter" musical segues and how her transitions keep one surprised and interested. You even mentioned how Courtney creates a mood--not just a song--by vocal manipulation, body language and a performance charisma that only the greatest possess. Another important observation: each time she performs, her runs, phrasing, even movements may be similar but never the same. While Courtney works hard at her craft--reportedly practicing hundreds of times for a performance--there is still an element of spontaneity that keeps her fresh and never boring. She rivets one's attention; it is hard to not watch Courtney performing. Finally, although a fantastic bluesy rocker, Courtney applies her style in numerous genres.
    Anyway, I need to end this extravagant essay by just saying that I hope you continue your Courtney journey. Follow some of the other suggestions. For her most professional performances to date, you should react to all her covers on Courtney Hadwin's VEVO channel (home of Old Town Road) while we somewhat impatiently await her first album of originals.

    Very good take on Courtney Brandon .You hit on many good points. She can shift gears while singing without dropping the clutch and it's smooth as silk etc. etc.. She doesn't cover or Kareoke anything, she COURTERIZES the tune and makes her own version. That's not to take away from any original artist it just makes sense. If you want hear a copy Kareoke why not just listen to the original. Thanks for a good reaction and good to see you've been COURTERIZED 🤟😁

    • @bobobobfellerann4765
      @bobobobfellerann4765 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's kind of funny that you say that, given her recent karaoke songs that have appeared the last couple months. She karaoked "Proud Mary" and "Remember Us This Way" in that Mediterranean Karaoke Bar in Turkiye, where she went to celebrate her 18th birthday. Obviously, she's no ordinary karaoke singer, but I love that she did that!

    • @darrenaurand7138
      @darrenaurand7138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bobobobfellerann4765 😂 Yes ...Courtney did have some fun at the Kareoke Bar while in Turkey. What I'm saying is she Courterizes the tunes that are produced... example her Vevo covers. Uh Huh, Can't Always Get What You Want, What's Love Got to do With It, we can go on and on. With guitar in hand or control of a different made track Courtney puts hers twist to it. The Kareoke Bar vids. were put out by others in the bar....not a planned release by Courtney. But yes ...you are correct Courtney (as well probably us all) is human and known to sing along to a song played on the radio or while having fun at a Kareoke bar.

    • @bobobobfellerann4765
      @bobobobfellerann4765 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darrenaurand7138 I rather suspect that she **did** plan the release of those karaoke videos from Turkiye (I'm still getting used to the new spelling that the Turkish people have stated that they prefer).
      Anyway, yes, I think it certain that Courtney participated in the decision to release those videos. She's extremely deliberate in how she puts together her songs. She thinks everything through. The third-party camera phone recording completely fit the karaoke aesthetic.
      She seemed to be saying, "Pandemic's over. Whatever I did in the past doesn't matter. I'm ready to start again from scratch. I'm 18 now and I'm ready to party."
      I'm not saying this on the basis of any inside information. It just seems obvious to me that she was making a set of intelligible production choices that communicated some variation of this message.
      Her intelligence is something else. It stands out in every single performance. I think she wants to fit in and relate to people and so she hides it, but she's not a genius because she's a talented singer. She's a talented singer because she's actually and literally a genius. Just my 2¢.

    Looking forward to more of Courtney from you. That was great. Courtney had just got signed in December after her stint on AGT in 2018. That following year 2019 is when she went in the studios working on her album. She mentioned they took a break to record her 4 song Cover Session mini album, one of which was this song. She recorded 2 upbeat songs and 2 ballads with some rock overtones mixed in only how Courtney can do it for that mini EP. She's so diversified and really has no limitations if she chooses to do something different. At a younger age, Courtney was more pop. She found old school RnB and rock by watching TH-cam videos from all the old classics artists, including Jame Brown, Little Richard, Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin and so many others.
    I love how she can manipulate her vocals to create so many different voices. As you said she has swag. I like to call it attitude. She uses every muscle in her body to show that attitude. Love the facial expressions right along with the old school style of moving on stage with her body getting into the vibe of anything she sings. Pure passion and an entertainer all the way. And so many ways she can manipulate the sounds vocally the way she sings. You just said it as I wrote this. "She has a lot of tools".
    You mentioned the "adlibs and runs" aren't rehearsed. Courtney reminds me of the way it was when artists entertained an audience at concerts Nothing is set, they would just be in the moment. She pretty much said she doesn't really have a set choreograph routine, that she has an idea of what she's going to do and how she's going to sing, but just does what she feels in the moment. As for her false seto, she did show a softer side of her voice a bit on one song on AGT, Not really her false seto, just a softer beautiful side of her vocals, but if you listen to her other 2 ballads she did at the time when she recorded this one, she will shock you even more with it. Try not to be a stranger to Courtney. She's is so worth it. I go along with checking out her studio cover of "Sign of the Times" from Harry Styles. th-cam.com/video/x9Phi6Yrg2k/w-d-xo.html

      @@tnae I meant to mention how she practices to to be able to sustain her stamina and also about some people feeling how it was said that her grit and growls will hurt her voice. She has a very well known vocal coach from the UK in Julie Miles and she helps her along with her style of singing and has directed her on how to take care of that precious voice of her. One of her exercise she showed was how she jogs and practices singing scales at the same time for endurance. Even when it's raining she'll jog in place at home while singing. Even as a very young kid she has been said to get home from school, do homework and practice for hours. So much so and very loud that their neighbors would hear her and some would even complain as it would be late for them. Always been all about her craft and very dedicated. Rare qualities in anyone, let alone a very young kid.

      @@bertpainter8385 I think Courtney's work ethic is absolutely obvious to anyone who pays even the least attention to her. It's one of the things that first surprises people when they happen across her golden buzzer performance. This girl appears so shy and soft spoken and yet when she opens her mouth an extremely well developed wall of sound comes flooding out from her. And although her voice has changed over the years, this aspect remains the same.
      In recent videos (Let It Be, I'd Be Game, House of the Rising Sun), she seems to be exploring a sultriness, sensuality and depth that is different from what came before. She's just unbelievable. She's gone through maybe four distinct periods as a recording artist by the time of her 18th birthday. She's constantly tearing things down and starting again. The voice is one thing, but that soul of hers is what really makes her special.
      I actually worry about her "work ethic" being **too** intense. I suspect she's her worst critic and that she's never quite satisfied with how even her best compositions turn out. She's wildly intelligent and has a great sense of humor, but I worry that she's not happy enough and that she doesn't know how impactful her music is.
      I know you've been a big fan for a long time Bert. I really would love to hear your thoughts. Obviously, I don't want to come across as knowing more than I do, or sounding like I just got off the phone with her. We mustn't spread rumors! I just think it's worthwhile to speculate on the relationship between an artist and her artwork. What do you think?

    Courtney owes her uncanny vocal abilities to (1) instincts for singing that she was born with, and (2) her voice coach in England, Julie Miles, with whom Courtney has been working since she was 11 years old. Julie was the first music professional to hear Janis Joplin in Courtney's voice (at 11!). Courtney had never heard of Janis. Julie wanted Courtney to know there was a model for the kind of voice she had, so she pulled out a recording of Janis singing "Cry Baby" and played it for Courtney. Courtney was electrified. She went home and searched TH-cam for videos of Janis, and while TH-cam was finding those, it also gave her related videos of James Brown and Tina Turner. Courtney had found her music, and her career path was set.

    My goodness Courtney's fans are all writers! But don't you fellows listen to the song? She **said** you can tell her nothing. But all her fans seem to think they can tell her all kinds of things!
    In some of Courtney's earliest videos, her eyes sometimes look bewildered by the types of sounds she's trying to get herself to sing. She seems to feel the spirit of a song and how she's supposed to get it to come out of herself and then she pushes and presses it into reality.
    I think she holds herself to extremely high standards and probably is constantly tearing down and rebuilding her work. I suspect this has more than a little too do with the delays of her album. She seems like the type of person who won't let something go out, unless it's up to her own standards, which are frightfully high.
    I wish she'd put out more of her material. I suspect that a lot of what she thinks isn't good enough is a great deal better than she imagines. She's incredible. If a song comes out of her, it's going to be fantastic because **she's** fantastic.
